"I don't have a clue what you're talking about- not a fucking clue....you just do what you do". I can't tell you how many times I worked this into a briefing in my military career.
@Brandi lord How much pot or crack do you need to have smoked, to not see the similarities between Benson and Trump - except Trump is real and a Republican. But, well you know reps do fairly low on the IQ scale.
I don't have a clue what you're talkin' about, Phil. Not a f***ing clue. I have a shell the size of a fist in my head. Pork Chop Hill. The only way I can make this goddamn toupee to stay on is by magnetizing the entire upper left quadrant of my skull, so you just go ahead and do what you do.
I heat that LJ. Yelling at the painting, as if it's a window looking outside. He says to his men. "I flew 194 missions and was shot down every one of them. Come to think of it, I've never landed a plane in my life." He is truly amazing how he sells his style of comedy and you laugh your ass off. Comedic actors like Lloyd Bridges have nearly all died out or are washed up. Comedy today is more crude humor and sex jokes. The only thing that never seems to die is fart jokes. Lloyd was a rare talent. His genius work will last on the Internet for ages and ages.
Lloyd Bridges is the only man that can bring me to tears from laughter and gasping for air. This movie is my all time favorite parody. Every line is delivered at the exact moment to get you laughing. I'm only 28 and I'm gonna sound like an old geezer, but damn it... they don't make comedies like they used to... Hot Shots and Airplane! are unlike any other!
That my favorite part with him. Always quoting that to my buddy. Also love when he thinks his wife is a spy lol. Lloyd bridges and Leslie Nielsen. They knew how to pull it off 😥
"How are you Sir?" "Hawaii? I'm in Hawaii, God damn it Bill I'm supposed to be in California." From childhood to this day this remains my favourite comedy character of all time. The delivery of every single word is perfection. Comedy of the likes of which has never been matched. I've quoted many of his lines for years, sometimes without even realising. Like when someone asks me if I'm alright I ask "Why, what have you heard?" and if I slip or trip I'll say I slipped on a crab, then if they say there wasn't a crab I'll follow up with "there were 2 crabs, they work in pairs." Hardly ever gets laugh when I do it. I love how he calls Block a different name every time. "President Benson." "No you're not. I've seen him on television, he's an older man about my height." Honestly these two movies have given me so much joy over the years. I don't even need to watch them anymore, I've seen them so many times I can pretty much recall the entire script for both. "Roy! ROY! huh, I even went to school with that man."
Its every thing he does and everything he says. When he throws up in that bag and says i don't remember eating that 😂 then fishes his teeth out etc. Doesn't matter how many times I watch these films. Hilarious every time. Timeless
Whoever wrote the script for just Admiral Benson scenes needs to be knighted, I swear He alone makes the film. they don't make films like this no more, Such a shame, But im so glad to be alive to have so many good memories of watching this film, RIP Lloyd Bridge, Thank you for the countless laughs and tears you brought me, Its 2018 and Im still in stitches from watching this.
"seems like only yesterday i was strafing so many of your homes" is one of the most brutally hilarious lines said in front of a room full of Asian people
_"...it seems like only yesterday I was strafing so many of your homes..."_ 😂😂😂 Bridges was utterly on point in these films.. the deadpan delivery and the physicality of it all.. a master Thanks for the upload ❤🇬🇧
"if Edwards gets wind of this he'll use it against you in the campaign, he'll try to prove that you're incompetent" "I can prove that as well as he can" 😂😂😂😂
Leslie Nielsen and Lloyd Bridges perfected the principle of delivering their lines completely straight and in a serious manner which made the contrast to the comedic content even bigger and would make even silly jokes hilarious. I can't think of anyone whose delivery of lines comes close. Sad but true.
This is my favorite line in the movie, because it is both parody and satire. I'm sure a lot of real servicemembers have joked that this is how their commander thinks.
"He'll try to prove that you're incompetent" "I can prove that as well as he can." This kind of humor is just nonexistant today. Lloyd Bridges and Leslie Nielsen were deadpan comedy gems. It works so much better when played by older actors and I just don't see many around capable of pulling it off the way they did.
One of my favorite parts of this movie is when he has his secretary read back what he was telling her to write and she said, "If you ever put your hands on my goddamn wife..." lmao
The fact that he keeps calling the same guy by different names EVERY time has me in stiches 🤣 The met- Ryan I'm glad you're here. The goodbye - run along now Blake 🤣
"Our rescue mission was under way, but 2 things kept running through my mind; would we get to the men in time and why did i bring helium instead of air?" LMAO
We could hear a gunfire from a compound. From out of nowhere a patrol boat appeared overhead. How would we get past the soldiers on that boat. Then suddenly..! It happened!! :D
these scenes NEVER GET OLD! both movies are 30 years old and still LMAO like it’s first time I watched as a kid…love Japan PM’s reaction to his dentures in wine then he embraces his wife like he’s seriously scared lol then Benson walks around like nothing happened hahaha
They don't make spoofs like this anymore, they've tried and failed. Mostly due to lack of imagination and lines they're afraid to cross. Same with horrors now too
KingStarr It's because modern writers are too soft and studio's also hire softer directors who don't tell actors to play it straight instead of playing it for laughs. It's the difference between Airplane Leslie Nielsen and Dracula dead and loving it Leslie Nielsen
I think it's because there are very few actors who can act perfectly straight when delivering punch lines. It's the contrast of that straight delivery and the absurd content that makes it all the more hilarious. Leslie Nielsen and Lloyd Bridges perfected it and I can't think of anyone whose delivery of lines comes close. Sad but true.
That's because the audience is apparently receptive enough when you throw in minimal effort cultural references more than taking the time crafting smarter comedic jokes.
“one minute you’re in bed with a knockout gal or guy. the next you’re a compost heap. does that bother any of you because it sure as shit scares the piss outta me!!”
"Every time I give an order, things get screwed up! Plan a reception, they bring you all hors d'oeuvres. Appoint an ambassador, and the next thing you know it he leaves the country. Now this!"
@@nhl_rookiewalter Because in the military, they'll usually say "Attention" and you have to stand in a stiff position without moving. Then they say "at ease" which means you don't have to stand in that stiff position and can relax (without moving from your spot). So the scene is a play on that because TECHNICALLY if they say "at ease" you can do ANYTHING, as long as you stand in the same spot. So usually people will just stand maybe with crossed arms or some other relaxed pose but since this is a comedy everyone does a super unexpected and weird pose 🤣.
Lloyd Bridges and Leslie Nielsen, two actors who moved from serious to comedy so brilliantly. You look back on their non comedy work now, and I laugh, expecting them to say something silly!
Favorite one has to be the "at ease men" part, the man in the background with the white scarf, sun glasses and the wind blowing on him takes the cake :p
"Have they no respect for the dead???!!" - Tug Benson The combination of his absolute distancing of his character from reality is what makes me laugh repeatedly at the same jokes each time I see them. He is simply perfect in his delivery of word, movement and facial expression. Thank you for this video!!
I'm convinced Lloyd bridges was the prototype for Joe Biden...I just watched this movie tonight for the first time in years and I came here to see if I was the only one... I'm definitely not..Also...this man is right up there with Leslie Neilsen and Mr bean as far as people who just make me laugh straight based on their delivery. I almost soiled myself watching this. Thanks for posting
I love how they keep the joke alive they did in Airplane. Where it was the wrong week to quit on everything. And how Benson has almost every part of his body replaced with something bizarre and absurd. From asbestos skin to aluminum ear tubes, the tongue of a dog and how he got his wounds in all sorts of wars he couldn't possibly have been in. "Got a mean shot in the leg at Little Big horn. Or was it Okinawa?! Well, it was with the Indians!"
...while shoving her out of the room via an iron grip. The first time I saw this bit, I laughed until I cried. No joke. I was 11 years old. To this day, it is STILL A GUT PUNCH. Uncontrollable laughter. Bridges...maaaaan... Lavender Jack...Swooping On Down.
