Adobe Media Encoder freezes on last frame - SOLVED

It is so frustrating when this when, but don't worry, here's a simple fix.
Adobe Media Encoder shares its RAM allocation with After Effects and unfortunately sometimes After Effects takes over the allocation, leaving AME with not enough memory to continue. In this video, I suggest ending After Effects using the Task Manager which then allows AME to grab all the RAM it needs.
Mac OS users, I'm sorry, I don't know the equivalent options - if it does work for you, please post in the comments and I'll pin it.

My situation was a bit different. My media encoder was rendering super slow. A 1 minute edit with minimal effects was taking hours to render because my encoder kept freezing and slowing way down. This fix definitely sped things up, it’s ridiculous that these products can’t just work as intended. Anyways, great video thanks for the help 🤝❤️

This is more the case of, Media Encoder doesn't want to render After Effects composition, instead of last frame. I tried this and actually seemed to work mysterically. I don't know why but it's such a Adobe thing to have a workaround like this. I had the problem of Media Encoder just not finishing the last stint of rendering a AE comp... This (I think) helped out

My avatar is a bunch of shape layers which uses DUIK to control the arm movements. The mouth shapes are an AE precomp, which uses time remapping to set the shape of the mouth. I get the time remapping values from a neat feature of Adobe Character Animator. I drop my audio into that program and it generates "visemes" which I can paste into AE. The head is controlled via an expression, it wobbles when the time remap values are not at 0. The eye blinks are random and there's an randomness in the eye movements, unless I'm not speaking, at which point the pupils drop down to look at the computer. I don't have a video on all this currently, I'm thinking that's one to make if I get to celebrate 10k subscribers.

I wish I seen this video so long ago, but at the end of the day will make things so much easier moving on you don’t understand. I edit on after effects heavy using lots of plugs ins and 4k footage and my renders sometimes are either super fast or super slow and will literally freeze at one some frame after multiple tries. Idk what it is with adobe honestly I’ll probably have to downgrade and see if it helps.

I hate it when that happens. Rendering as an image sequence can help with long renders. Mainly because you don’t have to render the bits it has already done

Mine is a bit different... from premiere pro to Media encoder, and Adobe Medi encoder renders the whole video (2 1/2 hours long, 80 gb) and it shows 0 seconds remaining in the render but nothing ever happens... it stays there and it creates 3 files, an audio, an mrv and a mp4 .... its so frustrating

What happens if you clear your cache? Although at 2.5 hours, that might not solve the issue. You could always try rendering out the video in 2 parts, then combining. That way all the effects are rendering and it should be a quick processsing job for AME

Have you got the latest drivers? AMD should be fine these days, but maybe it’s a plug-in that doesn’t work for you. Have you checked your GPU compatibility: helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/basics-gpu-after-effects.html

This was very good, it gave me some direction, before I had no idea... but I still have the same problem, pushing with my belly, there comes a time when when I close the AE, it no longer opens... and the rendering stops.

My video animations aren't centered when I render using media encoder from after effect, Imagine i animation position (X) of an object from the left margin to right magin, when i render the video doesn't start from the left margin, it leaves a gap at the beginning then to the right margin it goes beyond in such a way it appears again to the left previous left margin which wasn't filled at the beginning of the animation!

I’ve heard if this issue before. Try rendering a QuickTime ProRes file in AE, then using AME to convert it.

Getting increasingly annoyed here as I've spent the last week trying to convert the same 5 hour video which keeps freezing and the only solutions are to check the error log and delete said frame (there's no errors being generated) or to disable after effects (it's not installed and not even running nor is it required to run media encoder and convert videos.

Only works with After Effects. Does not work for Premiere Pro. Sometimes just pressing the pause button then pressing play again will do it, but not always. Sometimes you just have to wait... and wait... and wait...

this method works to every situation when you're rendering and encoding. Simply closing after effects or premiere on task manager, which are running in the background when rendering in ME, allows the render to continue. thank you. although, does this mean I need more RAM? currently at 32 gb

Or do you have an automated process to take care of most of it for you? If so, is it possible to tell me where you learned to do it (and in which software)?

Thank you. It was pretty much a recreation of my real reaction when it happened to me. My character is a set of shape layers in a precomp. I used DUIK to help animate the arms, but I could probably not have bothered. The mouth shapes are set through time remapping and the value for which are generated using Adobe Character Animator. The head movement is triggered by the mouth shapes. There is a resting frame which I have also linked the eyes to, so that when I’m not speaking they look down. I’ve joked that I’ll do a complete tutorial if I get 10,000 subscribers.

my problem is a little different to this, I’ve been trying to render a roughly 1 minute edit for ages now, each time I go to render it, it seems fine, gets like a few seconds from the end and then my mouse lags everything freezes and then after like half an hour of it doing that I usually turn off my computer or it crashes, this has happened before but never this consistently and I don’t know enough about computers or media encoder to fix it lmao, can anyone help?

That sounds like it might be your graphics card freezing up. If your whole computer is crashing. Try rendering using Software Render Only and see if the problem recurs.

I think you can adjust ram allocation in the preferences. You certainly can in After Effects.
