IF you have not read the Books don't watch any more of this and go read the books, they are simply superb . His first novel "Puckoon" is the most funny book and one of the most beautifully written books I have ever read. What a talent this wonderful man was, we will never see his like again. Bless you Spike
Someone bought me the books when I was in hospital, years ago and I used to read them aloud to my ward mates. We all suffered relapses due to laughter!! Happy memories. God bless you Spike!!
Sorry but to me this is a travesty compared to the book. I hardly recognise any of the book in it and couldn't crack one smile at any of it. The book on first reading had me nearly hysterical and in pain with mirth - it still afetr 50 plus years brings a genuine chuckle after umpteen readiings. Feel privileged to have shared the planet at the time of Spike and his creativity.
I as a captive audience on the early days of the Cold war loved Spike and the crew ... My own lifes stors .. The berlin wall and my part in its downfall
I have all of the umpteen books in the army trilogy and not a page wasted . I never saw the film because I was. Convinced that they'd make a bollocks of it . Pleased I missed it . 👍🇬🇧
Pure Unadulterated SPIKE, No Matter the Direction and Film Buffs and Actors. Pure Farce and Genius, Fullstop. RIP The Master of Comedic Genius. Hahaha XXXXX 💖💖💖
I remember watching this with my family and I remember that end sceen with the train and how after it finished everyone was completely silent for about two minutes.and then quite quite for the rest of the evening.
The film is hard to find. Jim Dale was talking to Rob Ross on the Carry on audio and mentioned that the plane crash scene was the most expensive shot in the film. Jim asked Spike for tips on motivation and Spike told him the plane crash scene didn't really happen. Its just artistic license ;) I like anything that Spike does. The film and the books are funny.
Well observed, wouldn't have been able to pick him as the same man, thanks for that. Jim Norton, not the only Norton in Father Ted, Noel Furlong for example.
In the book Leather Suitcase is transferred from the unit as he obviously can`t hack being the commander of what would become a fighting unit .A Major Chater-Jack took over and was highly respected by the men during combat in N. Africa.
Althought the film was nowhere near as good/funny as the book, I think Jim Dale portrayed Spike almost as well as Spike portrayed his own Father . . . .
16th of April 2018. National Spike on a Bike Day. Avenue House, Finchley. 9 A.M by the Statue of Spike. Memorial Bike Ride cycling for your local Mental Health Charity. Finchley down to Camden Town. To the site of the former Camden Theatre opposite Mornington Crescent. Then off in all directions where Spike would have wanted people to do bizarre things in his memory. RU-vid video, Elise Harris. Spike the Return, just one of the ideas back then in 2014. Dave Evans.
In his book he tells us of the time the soldiers set fire 🔥 to the methane emitted from their back sides ( farts to you and me ) Spike had to say " seriously I'm not joking "
4:11 Mainwaring !! So he finally got a proper comission!! Good for him !!! I guess Walker had an Army pal connection!!! And I see Onslo in there ! He never said anything about his War service!!!
You're absolutely right, I 100% agree with you that it's an abysmal editing attempt and I've no problem with you saying so. The movie is available on Daily Motion so maybe you or someone could do better than my limited/non-existant editing skill could manage? www.dailymotion.com/video/x81lui7 And no, I'm not being sarcastic. I'd genuinely love it if someone made a better job of it than I did. You can even post a link here, if you do a better version. 🙂
