We just adopted an Anatolian Shepard, and for the love of all that is good, they NEVER STOP BARKING! At everyone, and anything! She's a lovely girl, but we were NOT prepared for how constantly loud she is! Lol
Mine rarely ever barked or sang unless we were playing or I coaxed him to sing. Lol. I lucked out in terms of huskies. Once he grew out of the puppy phase he was the best dog.
When I lived with my best friend, she had a husky and I got a puppy like a year later, who learned a lot from the husky. So now my Blue Lacy is 7 years old and to this day very chatty and argumentative. 😆
Huskies are ironically probably pretty good company for sadness. They're like that one really obnoxious friend that screams and hypes you up because they love you and want the best for you. Everyone thinks they're annoying but you can't help but love them.
I think too many people aren't aware that huskies are basically bred as sled dogs. They're super energetic and tend to get restless when they can't run around for hours each day.
My parents got a purebred Malamute after falling in love with my GF's Malamute/Pyrenees mix. They were unaware that his chill nature was almost entirely the Pyrenees half and also my GF was really good at consistent behavior training. So when they told me they got a Malamute puppy I asked them if they knew what they just did and if they were prepared for it. They were not. All in all the dog is a pretty good boy but my parents are not consistent and wonder why he is a stinker a lot of the time.
Worked at an animal shelter for 6 years. I feel this in my soul. I had a young man come in once with a pack of his buddies because he "just moved out and has always wanted a husky". The particular dog he wanted to see was a VERY mouthy player. Not mean but rough and had 0 chill. This guy was wearing sandals (mistake 1). I told him about the dog and warned him to not to amp him up or encourage his kind of play. Long story short, he ignored my instructions and tried to play 'keep away' with his feet. He was laughing at first until it started to hurt. I let the dog nip at his exposed feet until I saw his face change and he almost fell. At that point I came in and rescued him and put the dog away. Some people won't listen/ understand until they experience a thing.
😂 Did he ask the same question every noob asks? *Is this dog trained* ??? Then same noob asks if this dog can be alone for 8+ hours most days. No. No. Nooooo.
@@Gloomshimmer Names cat Husky. Cat means Sandal man doesn't have to hang outside below zero degrees all Winter or greatly reduce interior air temperature to Cool Husky level.
Like Steve Martin said in Planes, Trains and Automobiles about Del Griffith, "a Chatty Kathy doll that pulls its own string. And the DRAMA!!!?... After 11 years I can say this; I'll never be without one again. Best thing ever!❤
Never gonna forget the first time I brought my husky home, left the room for ten seconds, and returned to find every single curtain and rod on the floor and the dog (somehow?) on top of the cabinet. Best dog I've ever owned, 10/10, zero regrets.
@fannishfanning160 I have more compassion for someone who files for divorce for personal reasons, rather than someone who takes the dog back to the pound for personal reasons. If you literally cannot keep the dog... I'm sorry. But if it's just because you don't want the dog anymore, then you never deserved a dog in the first place.
Man. As a retired vet tech, I felt this. I adore huskies, despite their chaos. Unlike Wiemeriners, they have a reason to be stupid, and I love them for it. They're so smart, but choose goofy, loud chaos over blunt force. They're just precious!❤
@@StrakanDocrusReakal as someone who failed at literally everything, when I got a dog, for some reason I sucked at everything but taking care of them. I hated myself so much, that if I let my Bubby even experience a fraction of the sadness I did I would probably of went even more insane than I am now.
@@StrakanDocrusReakalhey you better start working your life! This is not ok!! Try again again again!!!! Jesse never give up! You are worth it! And if you can adopt a dog do it ! Please never give up!
I remember the first time we got a husky we went to an animal shelter and were just looking to see if any dog called out to us. All the puppers were precious, but this beautiful Husky caught our attention as she was jumping high up in the air in excitement. Never regretted it, even with her howling at night sometimes keeping us up. God do I miss her.
I adopted a half husky, so he's basically a Diet Husky. I cried every day for about 6 months until we finally compromised on who was the boss. He is the boss.
I unintentionally adopted a half husky. I didn't realize how much of my life was going to be spent outside. 😅 The other half is shar pei. She is very not happy when I don't stick to the schedule.
I remember this one chunky husky at the doggy daycare I interned at in highschool. He genuinely seemed to think he was staff 😂 If any dogs started fighting he'd shove himself between them and told them off (idk how to explain it, it was like a deep chest grumble sound. Husky owners probably know) Also, when an owner who came to get their dog looked in the viewing window he'd stand still and point until someone acknowledged the owner. Weird boy, staff member of the year, 11/10 deserves a raise
I was wondering about that deep growl my otherwise sweet girl did exactly once when another dog tried touching her favorite toy. Then I stumbled onto a video of an actual wolf growling. It was that sound.
My brother's husky/malamute, Mando, does that chesty growl. My sister's dog growled at my sister once when he was in pain and Mando put himself between her and the dog and did that. It was equal parts intimidating and endearing!
😂We were the 5th family to adopt our husky 10 years ago, she was 9mo old. The 4 before us couldn't handle her, us either but refused to give her back, and she's one of our pride and joys to this day!❤
Pretty accurate. My baby got dumped, and i think she'd been mistreated before she finally found us, so it took her awhile to really be super vocal or anything. She went from timid, underweight and kinda scared to a healthy, loving, and shouty little lunatic. Love her more than words can express, and glad she found us instead of being stuck homeless and scared.
My family found a pretty cat from a hoarder and I'm so proud of how far she's come. This isn't nearly the same as a husky, she's still a bit shy, but she used to hide in the shadows and behind a bed and under the tub (after which mom had to get cat scratch vaccines). Now she's a normal shy cat, chirping and purring and being obnoxious to her favourite person. I'm so proud.
I was in the underground parking garage at Walmart. Two cute huskies were mournfully howling about their missing owner. After my shopping I returned to the car park to find the owner and her happy dogs greeting her enthusiastically.
I laughed abit because you can actually train them to be a chill dog, mine is not chaotic at all, still have all the other traits like the side eye, the selective hearing
😂😂😂 as someone who has been around huskies almost my whole life this cracked me up... Also my Dad has what I call a unicorn husky, hardly makes any noise & is relatively chill. I always tell him "I think your husky is broken"😂
Huskys are like an adorable, undisciplined toddler. They're so cute and lovable at moments. Then they keep going. And screaming, and running and bouncing and tearing the wallpaper off the walls.
@@dakotazigleromg! My neighbour! At least twice a day you hear “ please can you grab him?! Catch him! Grab his collar!” I think the whole neighbourhood has learned how to catch a husky🙄🤣
My ex wife and I had a husky (she got her before we met). I will say this is 1000% accurate, but I loved that pup so much. We used to howl back and forth with each other, and it cracked my ex up. A couple years after we split up, my ex had to put her down, and she brought her over to spend the day with me so we could cuddle one last time.💕
@@SammyFash she was just old, riddled with arthritis, and having some other health issues that impacted her quality of life. She was almost 14, and she lived a very good, pampered life.
I love how you clarified that it was indeed on purpose. Do a lot of husky owners just wake up one morning and find a happy chaos beast in their home and just go “welp guess this is life now”?
@@leifmcgraw6646 I didn't wake up one morning with a happy chaos beast, but I did search for one knowing what I would be getting into. I sort of see that as different from someone that shows up at a shelter and just adopts a dog that is available with no knowledge of what they are getting themselves into. A lot of people adopt huskies because they look cool, yet aren't prepared for the level of work they can be and end up returning them.
My late husband and I rescued two huskies. We knew what we were getting, and those dogs were such a joy. Lots of conversation, running away, jumping in the neighbor's pool and leaving clouds of hair, so much fun. I miss them all these years later, and I would do it again. I just need to install 6-foot fences.
I so understand and I miss our husky too. One thing: I hate to break it to you, but ours regularly climbed up and over the seven foot fence in our backyard.
They can climb it doesn't matter how high the fence is if they want out. And if they can't go over they'll go under. Just have to walk/run with them almost constantly
Then you need to skip that counsel part because it's dead wrong. Huskies aren't that chaotic, they aren't as loud as everyone says and while high energy they pretty much take care of themselves....only thing is they love to play...if you were close by I would come get all 3 of them right now...the 2 I have are freaking great....Demon won't run off either...he refuses...Kira will but she comes running when her name is called...I never even bothered finishing our fence....we don't need it.
I’ve got 2 huskies and they’re golden, brother and sister, they don’t bark, howl or yap unless put in front an untrusted stranger and apart from play fighting they’re perfect. I don’t get the bad reputation 😂
Huskies are great communicators and are very interactive with their owners. They are great singers if you play instruments or just like to have fun howling🤣. Great for a household with a depressed person who needs an upbeat companion. Downsides are they shed like crazy if kept indoors so they should have a doggy door and an enclosed yard to run all day. They are prone to jumping up on people in enthusiasm (I’ve had some favorite nice dress clothes ruined by husky toenails), AND they were bred to RUN so they are prone to roaming if not kept on a leash. If you do cross country running they are great running partners!
@@thebasicnoob4469 It can be either, it totally depends on the situation. You attempting to say "this is exactly how it goes even though I know nothing about what's going on" suggests you should spend more time with your mouth closed and ears open.
I actually, at one point, owned a Husky. He was the chillest dog I've ever had. When he was living with me, he was fairly quiet, even laid himself facing the wall to cool his belly. I couldn't keep taking care of him sadly, so my Mom took him in, he was happy with her too (I mean, she's had more dogs than I have), but he passed away earlier this year... it was so upsetting to all of us... but at least he was a big, big lover, and roughly the size of my coffee table... I helped pay for the costs of getting nice little things for him. So he'll always be with not just my Mom, but me as well.
Having a husky, is basically like living with a less lethal wolf with ADHD. Edit: Over 1k likes? I shall cherish your attention, fellow dwellers on the interwebs
😂 you don’t realize the level of chaos a husky brings on until you experience it yourself lol I love my husky, Jet, but I’ll never get another husky after him 😅 I love this very accurate description of what it’s like to be a husky owner 🤣
We had a husky, my brother adopted him when he lived in Alaska. When he was to be stationed in Alabama he decided that taking his dog along would be a bad idea. Too hot and humid for the poor boy. So me and my parents took him. All I can say is thank goodness I was young and full of energy. No way I would be able to keep up with a husky now. But Orson was awesome. I miss that sweet and sassy little guy. ❤😊
In high school, we adopted a husky when his previous owners couldn't handle him. He brought chaos and I loved every moment. Remembering those times always makes me smile. Sadly, he was put down a few years ago due to health and pain issues. My dad told me about it a month later, and it broke my heart. I miss you, Harley. You were my best friend and the only Siberian Husky I'll ever own. Now, I celebrate his birthday every Halloween.
As a husky pack member of over a decade, this is essentially the conversation I would have with people that would express interest when they saw me out with my pupper. “How many miles per week do you currently run without owning a dog at all?”. If their answer was less than 25, I told them not to get a Husky.
It's funny you should say that because I had a Norwegian Elkhound not the same but a little similar. When I was in my early twenties. I was cooped up and didn't have a car I would walk him sometimes three times a day voluntarily. Had a big park at the end of my street nobody used trained him to be able to run off leash and obey my comeback calls and whistles so forth. I took care of babies and young children all day this gave me a lot of pent-up energy. So in my late twenties to keep my bikini body I took up speed racing running and would run everyday as fast as I could a couple miles then sometimes walk the dog then flashdance for a few hours. A once-a-week bath and dip took 3 hours. I would love to have another one but at 66 I don't think I could do it. I told people he took me for a Nantucket sleigh-ride everyday. I taught him to use his indoor voice and whisper which he did. He would also start barking hysterically when he saw me taking my jogging bra out of the dresser drawer, as this meant we were going for another Nantucket sleigh-ride.
@@kayhansen9229 That’s such a wonderful memory. Thank you for sharing. I had a Norwegian Elkhound when I was a child. It’s what prepared me for the energy of a Husky. LOL! Wonderful breeds for those of us with pent up energy. Now, Baron (my husky) is a senior pup with arthritis, and I am happy to stay in shape with the weight room more than running. He goes for walks of his choosing for speed and length of time, and enjoys his treadmill. I don’t have to run 40 miles per week anymore for him or me. He’s the best dog ever and is still expending his energy in his senior years at his pace, leaving me to expend mine in a manner less damaging to my ankles!
Lol my tiny dog who thinks she's a hyper big dog... I have a tiny Shih Tzu-Unknown mix (breeder wasn't watching their female closely enough). she looks like a shih tzu 100% but she needs 3-4 walks per day and 1-2 hours of play fighting & rowdy play indoors/in yard. only her size keeps this manageable - she tuckers out after .5-1 mile. and she also loves to track and stalk ducks and canada geese, with seemingly no awareness that they are bigger than her. I'm tempted to get DNA done, but I'd rather put the money toward a tattoo or road tripping with her. I am so curious but guessing dad was a mutt. she's incredibly healthy so I am grateful for her daddy giving her those good strong genes; vet says she's his only senior shih tzu with no medical issues and one of the rare shih's not on kidney/liver meds. he thinks it's due to all that good exercise :)
My daughter has an ESA husky who picks up on her anxiety attacks and comforts her by getting in her lap and applying pressure. He is very in tune with her and the bond between them is incredible to watch. She rescued him and spend countless hours training him and working with him through his anxiety and husky ways. I believe they rescued each other. ❤
And take over your bed, your couch, your recliner ... just prey the husky doesn't figure out how to operate the remote to the TV or how to open the frig door.
Ive seen well behaved husky dogs. Like Australian Shepherd trained level. Well minded and listen 90% of the time. Majority of destructive huskies seem to be owner issues.
A neighbor has a Husky. He leaves for work and his Husky hips the fence and comes straight over to my house. I hear all the chaos heading my way before I see him. But I enjoy being a grandma to a Husky.
Yeah, my son was so hyped for a dog. He was so excited during the adoption process and really supportive when we brought our 16 week old puppy of unknown origin, Luna, home from the shelter. Fast forward one month and he tells me he no longer wants a dog and she's now all mine to keep, train and love. We discover a year later, she's a Pitbull (mostly anyway)/ Shepherd mix and extremely anxious so needs meds and LOTS of training that I personally gave her. Now the dog that the entire family was eager to return is now happy to have her in the house and I am eager to adopt a playmate for her.
We just adopted a husky! 8 year old rescue. Previous owners abandoned him in a crate after they moved away. He was left for a week before the police were called 😢 So far, he’s rather quiet, but he seems to be warming up! He’s becoming more mischievous, and will get into any and every food he can, except for his own 😂 but he’s very sweet, too!
Our family's husky waits until the evening when everyone has finished their dinner, he already begged from everyone and has had his chance to counter cruise before he eats his own food
I have the laziest husky ever 😂 He sleeps until almost noon every day! My husband is up at 7am every morning and if he even tries to wake him up for a walk before ten, he gets side eye and a huge sigh 😂😂😂 He hates mornings. And the rain. And wet grass 🙄😂 The drama is definitely present 😂
My recent husky that passed unexpectedly was named "Chaos". He was awesome. I miss him so much. It's only been a few months but I miss him grabbing my hand and taking me to show me all he's been up to through out the day. And his woowoowhooo's. He was such a lover.
I always wanted a husky but didn’t think I could handle one. Then a rescue begged me to adopt one they were trying to rescue. He was the most wonderful dog. That was 20 years ago and I haven’t been without at least one husky ever since. Naughty at times and stubborn, but incredibly full of personality, love, fun and intelligence. The best dogs ever. ❤
A working breed such as huskies need LOTS of walks and outdoor time. No more zoomies. Last thing I'd do is have more than one husky at a time. No thank you. 🐶
I think this is probably actually true, now that I think about it. There's a pair of huskies on my run route that I visit and they seem super chill, usually napping on the deck when I go by (though when they are up, they are fighting over which one of them I'm going to pet 🥰 ). So I assume I just don't see them roughhousing when they have energy to burn.
I have a Malamute mixed with husky. She is more of a cat than anything and her groomers and the people at the dog park are amazed at her manners and recall. Even takes baths well. We call her our broken husky. Big and well behaved. The best thing was when we got her trained to walk well and now she and the black lab walk really well on the split leash.
'' She is more of a cat than anything'' '' are amazed at her manners and recall. Even takes baths well.'' This doesnt add up... Sounds more like a golden.
The fact that she behaves well is due to her seeing you (her people) as dominant. When the husky is allowed to be dominant, that's where they develop the bad behaviors just like any dog. The fact that they're really just a few steps away from wolves means that they absolutely will fill the space of the leader if allowed to do it.
I adopted a husky. She was dumped on a logging road around a year old. She was completely untrained and had not learned bite control. She was so rough and wild that even the pitbull wanted nothing to do with her. I made leather bracers and taught her bite control. Today, she can play with the 12 lb cheweeni without hurting her. She only sings when she hears coyotes, and she mimics them. She sheds non-stop, and I became a dog groomer due to that.
My mother rescued a husky and when he was a puppy he would scream the house down but my mother decided when he was old enough the best thing to do is give him what he was bred for. She took him out for 10+ miles runs on the bike where he set the pace he was happy with which was often a husky trot and never had issues again. They can be great dogs just they are bred to do a lot of exercise and I think people forget just how much they are bred to do before they get one
as someone who hates noise, socializing and all forms of exercise, huskies are my arch-nemesis. 10 MILE RUNS EVERY DAY? that's some high-octane nightmare fuel for me.
I had a rescued German Shepherd/Husky mix full of personality from a prior abusive owner. When trying to adopt her a friend, half a dozen people in less than an hour tried to adopt her from me. She certainly had a lot of friendly upfront personality despite where she came from.
I've always been glad that I got lucky with mine, he's not loud and never barks and is great with communication but sometimes doesn't listen the first time around
Years ago a friend brought her adolescent husky, Marlowe, to a party at our house. 25-30 people circulating through our house, backyard, and garage, music, conversation, genial chaos...he was in his element! In the wee hours we were down to about 10 people, we'd switched the music off, and were quietly conversing. Marlowe and Bob, our cat who never met a dog he didn't like, had claimed the loveseat and were having an animated conversation of their own. Marlowe was vocalizing pretty softly, Bob was trilling and meow-babbling, it was mesmerizing. Marlowe, our friend, and her boyfriend stayed over. Bob chose to sleep with Marlowe at the foot of their bed and apparently had to finally be told to be quiet and go to sleep.
My husky is named Fergus after the dad in Brave…but we should’ve named him Bundy or Dahmer, because seriously… birds, possums, cats, kittens, squirrels…nothing is safe!!!!
Uh, don't remind me. My parent's husky was cool with our cat and very loving toward people. But he was worst than Stalin towards birds and chickens. Which we found out after first 2 minutes after visiting my aunt on the farm. He was not invited again.
The intensity of his stare during a lot of his sketches is awesome and really sells the whole vibe. I love it when he plays a German Shepherd, especially in the 'how dogs react to a burglar' sketch.
I like huskies because they'll tell me exactly what they want despite not speaking English,, I get such bad decisions fatigue and while all of the actual people in my life ask me what I want to do my husky tells me what to do. And he makes sure I don't forget to walk him, feed him, give him treats, go to sleep, ect. Not for everyone but it helps me snap out of my depression/anxiety episodes when he tells me it's time to do things for him.
I've always had issues making decisions.... I actually found that rolling a die, or flipping a coin helps with it. If you're neutral about the choices you won't care. But if you actually really want one of the choices, it forces you to make the decision, before the coin is done flipping or the die is done rolling
After my stepfather died, my mom acquired a cat like this. After 36 years with the last 15 Mom being his caregiver, she was sad and dazed. Shadow wouldn't let her sit around sunk in depression. She even finally got a house and moved out of her dingy rental, just so he would be able to go outside. That was 7 years ago and they are both fine. She called last night and when it got late he very loudly announced to us both TIME FOR BED!
Huskies are so beautiful- but definitely a high energy high maintenance dog. My neighbor when I was little had two that used to pull a sled and in the winter we got to ride around the neighborhood. Those dogs were so powerful.
I dont even own a huskey and my mutt does what she wants. Lol. Shes super smart and knows a lot of commands, but she still bocks back at times. Shes hilarious when she talks back.
My husky sleeps for 16 hours a day, hates getting up early and will sometimes even refuse to get out of bed and goes to bed at 8pm. If I’m on my phone whilst in bed he gets really annoyed about it lol if I stay up late to watch a movie he comes and tells me it’s bed time 😂 I love him to bits but he’s definitely bossy 😂 sometimes when we go for a walk he walks to the car and I have to take him for a drive instead 😂
My grandparents had a husky when I was a kid. That dog was the best entertainment for all the grandkids during the summers. There were eight of us, and our parents would all send us to live with our grandparents for the summer. Indy would chase us all around the yard for hours, and my grandma could actually get housework done 😂
I owned a husky for a while and she was chaotic and just full of joy. Every time I came home she would run around me in circles for a good 20 minutes before I could get her to stop so I could give her love
My little fluffy buddy was a good boy. He rarely barked (loved to talk back though) and only cause chaos in the back yard. Towards his later years he was a mommas boy who slept in my mothers room on a custom bed and would often drag my mom to bed when he got tired (he would be super talkative until she gave in to bedtime). I miss him but he will always be a good boy!
Surprisingly enough our husky, which we adopted from our local animal shelter, hates barking and I have never heard her howl not once. She cannot even be bribed to bark. However instead she will follow you around with her loudest squeaky toy and just go crazy squeaking it lol.😂
I have 3 huskies and constantly fight the urge to get another one. My husband and I agreed that when we retire we will own a farm and have nothing less than all of the huskies.
We had two syblings, both husky shepard mixes, both looked a LOT a like... but one had the husky Braun, the other a shepard brain. The shepard one was constantly tatteling on the husky one. 🤣
My partner wanted a husky ever since he was a kid. But about 2 years ago we rescued a severely traumatized shiba inu. We know it's not the same dogs completely different breeds, and yes, trauma can do a number on an animal. But just seeing how much it took for us to train and work with the shiba and how his nature was definitely made my partner think again on getting a breed that is defined as stubborn with a high prey drive for our first dog. We did eventually have to return the shiba he would have anxious pacing if anything dropped on the floor and would do violent attacks for completely unknown reasons. We did not have the experience or capability to help him.
"I'd train the dog to be less chaotic." 😂 We have a lab. We've known huskies (and Queensland Heelers). We're also owned by a plethora of cats. You can't "train" for chaos. You adapt, and you love. ❤
"Owned by cats" 😂😂😂 Truer words have never been spoken. We got adopted ourselves by an entire colony that we're working to tnr lmao. They're the ultimate chaotic creatures and I love them. 😂❤❤
A lab isnt chaotic and a “Queensland heeler” isn’t a dog breed. There’s Aussie heelers, or Australian cattle dogs… but no such thing as a “Queensland heeler” and again, labs are like cats that listen to everything you say. You’ve NEVER experienced a chaotic dog bud 🤦♂️🤡😂🤣🤣😂
My neighbor has 2 that are very quiet. I don't think I have heard them at any point other than when a fire truck goes by. They were adopted as adults, and about 1 year apart from each other, so not related, and not raised in the same environment. I was under the impression that huskys are pretty quiet because of these dogs. On the other hand, they have a small chihuahua mix that barks enough for all three of the dogs, so maybe they just farmed that work out to the yappy one? :)
He should've asked if he liked cardio, bc if you don't burn off a husky's energy in a constructive way of your choising, then the husky will choose for you, and in that case, hope you have good running shoes 😂
Huskies for the most part (there are always exceptions) are not a first time dog. They are very energetic, very vocal, are very intelligent and get bored easily. NEVER let a husky entertain itself because it's bored... you won't like what they decide to do most of the time...
my ex walked into the shelter wanting a husky too. We got one and he was the best dog ever! funny thing is he didn’t act like a normal husky , he was the exact opposite of the stereotype. super quiet didn’t bark or howl, no drama and he was super lazy 😂 just an affectionate funny little ham. I miss him everyday❤
I always used to say I had a broken husky… turns out he’s probably at least part malamute 😅 explains the quiet’tude, the ornery old man personality with the other dogs and the plus size package we ended up with. ❤
I lived next to a guy that had 11 huskies (he's a breeder). It was loud to say the least. He taught me how to ensure I got a pure Husky: if you take the dog home and it doesn't display signs of severe mental illness, take it back and get your refund, because that's not a husky.
