In this special episode, we adopt a dog from our holiday in Zante.
As some of you may have seen from our Zante series, we visited Zante Strays and in the back of our minds knew we would be looking for a dog to adopt.
This all came about due to us losing our beloved dog Lola in March to Lymphoma.
We take you through the timeline of our adoption journey, getting Tigger from Zante in Greece to us in the UK.
The journey starts in Zante as we visit Tigger at the shelter.

@devonshire5482 thank you Derek. If we had more time and resource we'd have had more than just the one. Poor souls just want to be loved. Our Tigger is so grateful for the lovely comfortable and loving home he has now. He's such a happy little lad.

Aww thank you Mark. He is a lovely boy, although a little monster at times 🤣 but he is still a pup. He's been a really quick learner though and thankfully settled in really quick.

Yes it is very rewarding indeed. Its just lovely to see how comfortable he is in and around the house. So pleased he settled into his new environment really quick as it will all be completely new to him. Our last dog was a rescue too and she was the loveliest dog.

You two are truly beautiful people. To take the time and effort required to give Trigger the loving home that is deserved. Our chocolate Lab has reached her Twighlight years now 14. We know the time is short we have with her and dreading the loss. Your story has enlightened me regarding the adoption option in the future. Thank you for sharing your experience Trigger is a lucky dog indeed. Lovely to see an update in the future.

Thank you Gerry for your lovely comments. It's massively heartbreaking losing you fur baby, you get so attached to them and they really are a massive part of your family. We both understand exactly how it feels. Good to know this give an insight into the adoption process and hopefully help you if you ever do make the decision to take this route. There are a few more videos tracking Tigger's progress through his first year. Also, earlier this year we met some of his brothers and sisters and made a little video of that too.

Yes we are lucky to have him too, it was horrible losing our Lola and really broke our hearts. The house was so quiet without a pup. What better way to fill that void by giving a stray a secure loving home.

It's a very thorough approval process. So thrilled that you were able to adjust things to meet their requirements and get okay'd. Those poor pups after the trip - so confused. If they only knew what they were traveling for. Don't you just wish they could talk and understand us sometimes? Fortunately it didn't take long for him to understand, once you got him home. 💓Awwww, the puppy friends! Such a beautiful story. You all are lucky to have found each other. Congrats on the new family member!

Thank you guys. I know exactly what you mean about them being able to talk as we'd be able to help them and comfort them more. They were absolutely terrified but I'm sure they will all realise over time they have come to a good life. We know he will be spoiled here and will give him the a great secure life. Hope you enjoyed the journey.

Really lovely to watch. I am no 752 subscriber... I knew an English psychologist who did a lot of work for Zante, about 10? years ago, on twitter. I went looking for them when covid was at it's scariest, when I got online again, but they weren't open online. Left Twitter never to return because I had a dreadful experience of a breach of security that they did nothing about. I felt very sad about it. I thought they had closed for good. I support Jutta Shelter on Crete, at Iereptera. They don't charge for their dogs, but you have to pay for vet costs, transport and buy crate, etc, to adopt. I think if you subscribed to Jutta and introduced yourself and told them you had adopted a Zante stray and had a video up about importing a dog from Greece, you might get extra views and even some subscribers. I always feel sad when people only adopt one dog. They love company when you are out. But it is so lovely to see him start to blossom. You could settle him a little if you adopt a middle aged, really good natured adult dog. One that is a bit lazy, etc. Then, if your young dog finds he can escape, he won't go far, because his companion won't leave. You could answer some questions about whether you would recommend the transport company. Jutta seems to have people only use planes, unless they are travelling around Greece with camper - but Greece doesn't let dogs cross the border without an accompanying human. So just this week, a volunteer escorted 1 puppy, 1 senior dog and 1 kitten to London. And was met by adopters. All of Greece is sadly awash with dogs. If you subscribe to DASH rescue and DAR rescue and tell their subscribers you did a video on adopting using a pet transport, I am sure you will get extra views and maybe subscribers. Once pup has settled, you might also offer to foster a pup and rehome in UK. One rescue says a dog adoption in UK often takes 3 months, compared with adoptions from Greece averaging 2 years - because most adopt puppies and so many adult dogs never get adopted. I am in Oz, and can't adopt or even foster, myself, due to ill health and I have a lot of rescue cats I need to home, myself. I think a number of people would be really interested in all your knowledge of the professional transport in your adoption. Pup looks like it has a beautiful life. Reminds me of a puppy I rescued and adopted out to a lovely retired couple, about 30 years ago.

Hi Georgie, firstly, thank you so much for subscribing to our little channel. We really do appreciate each and every one of them and we can't thank you enough for your support. I will certainly have a look for Jutta dog shelter and see what they're about. It sounds like they're very similar to Zante Strays, who only charge to cover the vet fees and transport. The transport themselves were really good with the dogs. I believe they make the trip once every month which is quite a task in itself. So sorry to hear you are not in such good health yourself and will be hard parting with your little fur babies, but I suppose you know what you are doing in their best interests. We hope you are feeling a lot better soon and send lots of love to you over in Oz, all the way from the UK.

@@continentalcoxons I am old and on the way out. I am not anxious for myself, but stressed out about the animals I haven't yet homed. I had a 20 yo blind rescue little dog and for about 2 years, have been so worried about dying in bed or in a paddock. I could easily not be found for a month. I have a week's worth of water inside but was so worried she would not find more water. Sadly, she died and I buried her at 2 pm one afternoon and 12 hours later, had a heart attack... It was as though my body said, TICK. We can go now. Which really upsets me - because I am really worried for the cats, as some are feral and some are really besotted cats with me, but react like feral to any other person. I have no family alive and all my friends were older and are dead or overseas. We don't have that rescue you have in UK. Is it Cinnamon Trust?
@continentalcoxons
@continentalcoxons Год назад
Aww so sorry to hear that and we really do wish you all the best. I believe the Cinnamon Trust here in the UK supports elderly or terminally ill people with pets. It is such a shame there is nothing similar over there for you to reach out to and help you.
@georgielancaster1356
@georgielancaster1356 Год назад
@@continentalcoxons Not wanting to lure you away from your main support, Zante, but as you know, subscribers attract advertisers and then number of views earn money for vet bills, food, etc. So even if you only subscribe to the other 3 Greek rescues and watch one video a week, it will help them - and I believe if you tell people you have used a professional transport from Greece, have a video and will answer any questions you can, I am sure you will get extra views and probably get extra subscribers - and maybe Zante will get some more subscribers and even donors. If you are wanting to build numbers of viewers, if you occasionally foster a British or Greek dog or cat, you will probably get a bigger following. Sometimes just taking in an emergency dog or kitten for a weekend or week, rom a local rescue, can save a life. Sometimes there is no space safe for an emergency. A weekend gives a rescue a chance to shuffle dogs. Or fostering for a month can mean that a rescue can get a dog adopted to make a space... It really can be a matter of a weekend to get a dog safe. That means you can do a new video. And then do a good news video when adopted. If you foster, some ask that you buy food but rescue should pay all vet and medication - and many supply food as well. Hope everything goes wonderfully for you. Just a suggestion or 2, to think about.

Have always wondered how the process works - we are not able to adopt at the moment as we have an elderly dog of our own but who knows what the future will bring. We have never visited the shelter (despite following them on facebook all the time) - just because I would want to bring home a dog (and probably every dog!). Good luck with your Tigger - he looks to be so much fun.
@continentalcoxons
@continentalcoxons 2 года назад
Yes we thought it would be a good idea to make a video of the journey to show people what is involved in the process. We also wanted to do it for memories sake for ourselves too. Tigger has come such a long way in such a short space of time and is provising us with a lot of entertainment and fun. Never a dull mo.ent with him at the minute 🤣

Hi Judith. If you have the time, Jutta Shelter in Greece is desperately looking for subscribers, to get to 10,000 subscribers - (nearly 6,400 now), if you could subscribe and watch just one video a week it would help them. A headmaster has run Jutta for 22 years. He was living in a room with a hole in the wall and no bathroom, until last 2 ish years! He has a proper bedroom now and a bathroom and a volunteer's bedroom now. So if you volunteer to help with dogs and cats, if room is free, you can stay at the rescue. He is still working as he hasn't enough donations to cover costs, even though an old man.
@georgielancaster1356
@georgielancaster1356 Год назад
Oh if you go back to Greece, if you go to Crete, apart from Jutta dog and cat rescue, there is a donkey rescue at the other side of Crete. They have ancient donkeys and sponsor farriers to do free hoof care for working neglected donkeys. Check if they are open - covid has mucked up everywhere. You could visit with a 10 kg bag of misshapen juicing carrots, (cheap), or a bale of hay or bag of stud mix mixed grain, molasses, chaff, etc - or Lucerne chaff - and spend a day with the donkeys. Plus all the tourist things...
@continentalcoxons

Will certainly keep that in mind if we get to Crete. Did nearly end up there in September this year but it hasn't worked out.

@@continentalcoxons Greek man runs it, with New Zealand wife. They have a few rescue dogs and cats in their family. :-). I think 10 of your Tigger video views have been me... Cat person is very excited about your mention of Nottingham, as they have family there. So how long was trip from Greece until your pick up - and do you know the hours from reaching British land to your pick up spot? Did van do the channel tunnel? or go across on a ferry?
@continentalcoxons

They left Greece on Saturday morning, caught a ferry across to the mainland then drove north to catch a ferry to Ancona in Italy. They then must have dropped some.of the dogs off in Germany before making their way to the UK. Theu arrived at Calais on the Monday night where they stayed overnight and caught the ferry over first thing. They dropped off just north of London first then at Donnington about 1pm.
