I'm back with a second update on how our adoption is going so far! In March, we accepted a legal risk adoptive placement for two kiddos from foster care. They have been living with us since July, which was the last time I did an update like this...this is not only a way for me to process how I have been feeling throughout the process, but also a way to show others what it is really like to be an adoptive/foster parent!
Don't forget to subscribe to hear more about our adoption journey :)

I only have 2 biological kids, ages 3 and 5 and I NEED quiet time DAILY for 1.5-2 hrs. I plan to keep quiet time daily until they’re grown up if they aren’t in school lol. I’m introverted and am a much more emotionally stable, loving mother when I get quiet time daily. We want to foster/adopt and I really appreciate all of your information and how you share your heart and experiences. I wish I could meet you personally for tea and hear more. We plan to get certified this winter. We believe God is leading us in this direction after a few experiences we have had this fall.

My family is going through foster adopting. I am the new grandma of this precious toddler who they have for some months now. I have watched several videos on RU-vid and you are the very best and most helpful of all . You are honest, you don't waste words and everything you say is down to earth and helpful. Thank you. Your videos are excellent. Your countenance is beautiful and your honesty is refreshing and so helpful. Bless you!

Parenting children who have had trauma is a different type of parenting. You are so right...breaks are necessary.

A date once a week is very necessary!! Good job keeping the partnership going. You two need to be happy and on the same page. Thank you for being so honest in this video. I am doing foster to adopt in the near future and you have helped me so much. Thank you.

Hi. I stumbled upon your channel tonight and watched a couple of your videos. My husband and I have been fostering for over 5 years. We adopted our oldest son through private adoption as a new born. Our daughter came to us through foster care at 10 weeks old. We got to adopt her when she was 2 years old. We have bio twin boys. We have fostered 6 children longer term and have done respite care for 10 children. I like how real you are. May God bless your family. 🙂

We just got licensed to foster/adopt on Tuesday! Can I just say, you channel has been a huge reassurance to me all through the licensing process and I'm so thankful for your videos. Would you be open to doing a Q&A about your adoption so we can ask more specific questions about the process? (Not about your kids' personal info)

Also, if you still want video ideas, some things I would love to know more about... --how did you talk to your friends and family about your adoption? How did they bond with the kids? What challenges did you face related to that, and what do you do if someone in your family doesn't treat the kids like part of the family? --a whole video just about the boundaries that you feel are important --how to prepare your home for more adopted kids, and how you prepared emotionally --how to make your soon-to-be adopted kids feel comfortable the first few times they visit --biggest differences between toddler and older kid adoption --things you can't do with kids until they are adopted (like show their face, travel without permission, etc)

Yes I would be open to a Q&A!! I haven't done one yet because I wasn't sure if there would be enough interest. Also, I love those ideas!!! I am still sitting on two vlogs I will post in the next two weeks so after that I'll tackle some of these 😊

Thank you for being honest and sharing with all of us. My husband and I just started the adoption process through our state. We are doing all the paperwork and beginnings of our home study phase. (Oklahoma). I’m learning so much and your vlogs are very informative and a big help. 👍. Thank you!

When people are judging you for date nate, its more like they are looking in a mirror, judging themselves for not taking a date night.

Yeah, or they are the kind of person who gets jealous because their spouse maybe doesn't want a date night with them. You are doing great!

It took me a good year at least to bond with our second child who has special needs and was a challenge. I completely understand what you are saying. We have 3 adopted children, 2 from Foster care.

Our kids still nap but I plan to have quiet time after the nap age is over. I can’t give my children my all without a break. I have housework to do also. Parenting is hard. Everyone needs someone to vent to without advise or I told you so.

I've been watching your channel for a few days now. We are starting our adoption process, but we also have raised our three biological kids to adults. I just wanna say that a lot of what you talk about sounds very normal. Dates? A must. No matter if your kids are biological or adoptive, you need time with your spouse because you are the foundation for your family. I appreciate your videos! Quiet time was essential when my kids were growing up. Take heart! Even tho you're working through trauma and grief with your kids, much of what you share sounds like normal kid behavior and your feelings sound very normal too. 😍

I definitely think there are a lot of parallels to parenting bio kids! Also, amen to dates being essential! :)

I work in Special Education and English as a Second Language kids and people say that to me all the time. I usually tell them, "It takes a special person to work in a factory. I know I couldn't do it." haha

Thank you for your videos! My good news club kids that are exceptionally clingy come from bad homes lol when I taught “good” kids and they didn’t cling to me to the point of one kid per finger (Im serious!) I thought they didn’t like me much. Nope- they were just healthy! 😂

Hey love your videos. I’m just starting out the process to adopt and I’ve enjoyed your insights. I’m interested to hear your thoughts navigating interracial adoption and how you foster your child’s development of identity. I know this can be a touchy subject so I hope it’s clear I’m coming from a place of curiosity.

I love that question! This is something I feel like I am trying to do, but still have a long way to go. Maybe I'll do a "hot cocoa chat" video on that topic 😊

This was very interesting . Here in the U.K. you can only adopt children that are younger than the children you already have in the house (biological or adopted)
@adoptinformed
@adoptinformed 3 года назад
Oh really? I didn’t know that! I have never heard of a rule like that here, but in some cases they recommend that the child being adopted should be the youngest in the family due to certain behaviors.
@caterinas6863
@caterinas6863 3 года назад
@@adoptinformed the adopted child or children have to be the youngest here, which makes it hard to adopt if you have a toddler as there aren’t many babies available for adoption… some people have to wait until their children are at least 3/4 years old
