@@Phurngirathaana Unfortunately yes. Since the vietnam war and the fall of Saigon, they wanted to repopulate and increase population quickly to stand a better chance in potential future wars. So as an incentive, the government paid families exponentially for every child they had. 1,000,000 VND (Vietnamese Dong) for their first child, 2,000,000 VND for their second and so on. So if you had 8 children that would amount to a total of 45,000,000 VND which with todays exchange rates equals 1,800 USD. This led to a huge amount of inbreeding to maximize income. A lot of times couples didn't even know they were cousins, or even siblings. Since few families could afford caring for a child (following the war) parents usually gave the baby away to either orphanages (before they got overcrowded), humanitarian aid organizations such as the red cross or families willing to adopt (usually outside of vietnam) after getting paid for it. A famous couple is Hoài Thương Nguyên and Bảo Nam Nguyên who had over 7 children together without knowing they were mother and son.
@@Phurngirathaana 1. Just a handful of 40%. Well, a lot but not all. I'm not Nguyen. 2. The last dynasty in Vietnam was the Nguyen, and they execute a lot of their previous. Therefore those people changed surname in order to keep their heads, and that was vastly 2 centuries ago so the Nguyen multiplies.
