Adult Swim is Replacing Cartoon Network (Kinda) 

Adult Swim was and still is an awesome block! Wish it would get its own channel with Toonami as a block on weekdays at afternoon or night.

I remember as a kid staying up watching Cartoon Network, I saw the guys from King of the Hill drinking beer in front of the fence and almost thought I lost my remote. I think that’s one of the first times I’ve experienced genuine fear.

I saw some people concerned about kids seeing adult shows at 6:00 PM. I remember when King of the Hill came on at 9:00. I watched it when I was 6 and I turned out fine. I think it would be a good idea to put Unicorn: Warriors Eternal at the 6:00 PM time slot as a sort of “buffer” between CN and [as]

The fact that Toonami still gets love from the fans makes me really happy.

If adult swim does get more air time, I wouldn’t mind seeing if they can get Galactic KND into action.

I agree with the sentiment that children need to watch adult shows more often. Not stuff with crass humor, but at least shows that cover heavy mature topics. That's why Adventure Time was briefly an opener for Adult Swim, it was a children's show that covered heavy topics. The reason being is that kids who aren't exposed to those topics get desensitized and cut off from reality, so when faced with a real world scenario they aren't equipped to handle it. Sesame Street discovered this by accident back in the 70's. Which lead to why a lot of cartoons in the 80's, 90's, and early 2000's, had PSA's or featured heavy topics. Were some successful? Definitely so. The trend died off due to parents thinking this content was bad for children, when in actuality is was important to show things like the consequences of playing with a gun, or how to handle a person dying.

Sad to see that Cartoon Network is being cut shorter, but I like that adult swim is getting more views. If they makes cartoons like Cartoon Network, then it could be more mature, and mature

Having Toonami weekdays from 6-8pm is a great idea. They kinda have something going on when they aired Adventure Time, Steven Universe, and Unicorn: Warriors Eternal on Fridays.

Cool! I hope this will one day have Toonami showing on both weekends and weekdays, and eventually, as it's own channel and giving us an animated series starring TOM and SARA in New adventures!!

If Adult Swim will bring back Tonami to the afternoon hours, then I hoped that they can get back to airing new episodes from either CN or AS on Friday nights. Afterall Gumball is said to return in a new season, hopefully it be a sign of the return of Cartoon Cartoon Fridays.

Adult Swim is not replacing Cartoon Network, it's changing time slots. Cartoon Network's best decade is 2010 without a doubt. So much bangers like Adventure Time, Regular Show, Steven Universe, Gumball, and We Bare Bears. Adventure Time and Regular Show are top 2.

On the one hand, I am also concerned about this; especially with all the people STILL using the "Cartoon Network is dying" thread even now. Giving Adult Swim THIS MUCH airtime feels...a bit too much, especially since so many upcoming new shows have yet to premiere on the channel yet. If Adult Swim is to start at SIX soon...how will ANY of that content be given time to shine? However, on the OTHER hand; there's still plenty of time between here and September. This means the higher ups could still rethink the decision and realize...maybe this is going too far. Plus, it's not like Adult Swim has that much of its own content to offer anymore these days. Outside of Smiling Friends, Royal Crackers and more recently, Unicorn: Warriors Eternal; what else does the block have of its own to offer the older viewers? They only air Bob's Burgers because they've borrowed it from Fox and due to the situation with Roiland, I doubt we will be seeing more Rick & Morty anytime soon. So, I ask again; what else does AS have to offer its viewers that would warrant such a huge chunk out of Cartoon Network's airtime?

If they could prioritize Toonami, they would become a powerhouse of television anime presentations.

I’m worried about the change because of reasons behind the scenes. Why they agreed to a earlier slot is shown by statistics, but I mainly worried if there’s more to it. I really hope that I’m wrong and that it’s a new chapter for simply the love of animated shows. Sidenote, I remember the days when I watched Toonami after I came home from school, and I’m staying gold to relive those days again.

I definitely think it’s unbelievable that adult swim will go on starting at 6:00 pm and also I think it’s a good thing for them to be on adult swim.

Considering Cartoon Network has become a rerun channel with little to no new original content, I find it refreshing that Adult Swim is taking over as the new content bringer for this channel.

Weekday toonami is a blessing I missed out on. I would love to see it return.

I honestly think cartoon networks would be better under adult swim, still not just dropping the F bomb for no reason, but instead exploring more abstract ideas and themes. Like doing adventure time's next series and exploring stuff like trauma and fear, as well as the importance of shame and its greatest downfall. Essentially keeping its spirit for wanting to make shows that'll change not only kids, but young adults lives too with their insight. Essentially allowing them to go deep without the restraints of making it more "children friendly". Because sometimes making something more dumb down makes you attract, dumb down people.

Toonami would be an excellent transitional block between CN and AS.

I feel like the way to go is Adult Swim to have stuff that's a bit more tame (in addition to the good shit ofc). Stuff like Unicorn, maybe stuff like Owl House and Steven Universe with the darker aspects cranked up. I bet with the current animation landscape that would pop off big time, while still being somewhat inclusive to younger demographics on streaming.

I hate your clickbaity titles but the overall point of the video I agree with. It would be nice to see a return to form of Toonami starting at 6. That’s how I remember first seeing Naruto. Looking forward to the future of CN in general.

Honestly, Adult Swim prioritizing Toonami would be the best hypothetical decision to revitalize the channel! That way it's target demographic can get more edgy cartoons that aren't necessarily adult animation like Batman Beyond or Star Wars: The Clone Wars (assuming Disney is alright with that).

I've been waiting and hoping for a new afternoon action/anime block for so long! Toonami informed my sense of anime and animation in general so much back in the day and I would love to see a new generation of kids get to watch a similar block that comes on in the evening. I remember getting home doing my homework and turning on my TV for the new episode of DBZ and Rurouni Kenshin. I miss those days so much.

I'm all for weekday Toonami making a return. Or maybe even reviving Miguzi to take 6-8pm weekdays. It's definitely an opportunity to get more shows like Unicorn or Infinity Train in that timelot instead of relying on Fox reruns. BUT I also feel like you keep Toonami on Saturdays but it can takeover the entire night. I mean they pretty much did that from 2012-2015 and in 2018 Toonami did kick-off Saturday nights at 9pm with a 9-4 timeslot. But I think it can be more broad and give them the chance to showcase a lot more action shows on Saturday. It would be cool for them to get the rights to Kai and Super again as long as they air outside of the midnight-4am slots on Saturday night.

I'm sadden by just how Cartoon Network has been slowly becoming a shell of its former self as I remember it being a huge part of my childhood. But even still giving more of the spotlight towards teen/young adult animations with Adult Swim right now with giving up an hour of Cartoon Network's run time is a right move. As content towards teens/young adults has been looked over in the entertainment industry to where some series have been overlooked for their potential and/or cancelled ignoring how well a series can do well with the love put into it and the love towards it.

I always thought Adult Swim had the potential to do more with adult themed shows beyond fart jokes (though I love those). Glad to see that becoming reality.

I haven't watched cable in years, but I remember staying up late to watch adult swim and Toonami in my childhood. I had no idea they was pushing adult swim into an earlier and earlier timeslot. Last I remember, it would start the earliest at 9pm, but to hear it's currently at 7pm and now moving to 6PM?! It's wild to learn about that. Shame Cartoon network is just being thrown away, but they've also done that to so many shows with potential. I still feel heart broken over Symbiotic Titan, Infinity train, and Final Space.

I just hope this change doesn’t cause the quality to suffer and the higher ups forcing creators to get their shows out sooner

Crazy how Adult Swim is going to essentially be the revival of some of Cartoon Networks greatest and most memorable attributes. Adult Swim has managed to establish itself as a hub for both nostalgia, and new age ideas for fiction. I remember being a kid and feeling like I was on some forbidden channel, but now I look *TO* with much interest and excitement for entertainment. Cartoon Network by the looks of it isn’t going to last much longer in its current state, at face value that seems sad, but I doubt Adult Swim would just throw it all away, and like RoundTable said they might even do reruns of the admittedly mature shows we grew up with, like Adventure Time.

Adult Swim was like a reward you got for not going to bed as a kid, like "hey kiddo, your folks are asleep and you're still up. So enjoy something meant for the big kids". Then is was animations I never thought would be made because "cartoons were for kids", stuff that told child me that growing up didn't necessarily mean losing your ability to be silly & dumb once in awhile

I mean I’m homeschooled so I watch Cartoon Network from when I first wake up and then I watch adult swim tell I sleep honestly I don’t think it’s a bad idea that adult swim is getting more screen time but it’s just an eh for me

The problem Cartoon Network has is entertainment by volume, or what Netflix refers to as "ambient TV". Basically cheap, uncreative garbage that can be churned out in bulk to fill air time with a vaguely TV-like experience. The idea was something you could turn on as a backdrop in a kids' play room or something while you do something else. Trouble is, if you have Netflix, and could just watch Buddy Thunderstruck or Avatar: The Last Airbender instead and have something that's actually entertaining for kids, and even adults, why waste the screen on colorful noise? This is why Adult Swim has been so successful, they're the only block on Cartoon Network willing to put in the effort and the time to find and air good and creative shows, and that's what people are watching. If CN were to do this, even bring back some of the classics like Ed, Edd, and Eddy, their ratings would improve. 100% agree, though, Toonami afternoon block on weekdays before Adult Swim, have the lighter animes there like Naruto, DBZ, Ronin Warriors, Gundam, Inuyasha, etc. along with western shows like Batman Beyond and TAS, Justice League, etc. That would also free up their Saturday night slot to focus entirely on more mature anime, rather than having to cram a mix into their limited slot.

Cant say this was a surprise at all and was kinda hinted at a long time ago since Cartoon Network introduced Toonami and its various anime, that Adult Swim itself will later adopt. I would probably support this if I still watched CN or other animated networks. Either way, I will get back to watching anime online and not worry about Cable times.

Remember when I was like 6-11 secretly watching adult swim when I could. I remember Fridays in 2010 watching Star Wars the clones new episode and then watching king of the hill

In Canada (at least on the Bell service provider) Cartoon Network and Adult Swim have their own channels and air at the same time. Though I'm not sure on the management, if it's different than in the states, but the adult swim channel aires much older programming early in the day then I suppose by the time the channel is supposed to be on, more of the typical shows come on. Cartoon Network constantly has a cycle of craig of the creek, ttg, we baby bears, total drama Rama, and gum ball. Only sometimes do they throw in other shows like Steven Universe, 6 teen, total drama island, but not much else other than that.

For the past 20 years (since 2003), [adult swim] has always gradually gained extra days or extra hours for the start or end time. The Wikipedia page for [adult swim] explains the history on this, so this is nothing new. Even if years ago, the reasons for [adult swim] expanding extra time were completely different compared to today, it’s always been happening gradually as time goes by. It was only a matter of time before it would eventually hit 7pm or 6pm. I’m surprised it didn’t happen years earlier especially after gaining 8pm back in 2014. This is quite surreal to me because I still remember as a young kid, when Cartoon Network was 24 hours all the way thru the night almost every day except for 2 times a week, and the only 2 times a week adult swim was on it started at 10pm or 11pm only lasting 'til 2am. My biggest fear is the Toon Disney/Jetix scenario… I remember when Jetix took over more than half of Toon Disney’s schedule ‘til the networks merged into the “Disney XD” name. I don’t know if in the future (maybe 5 to 10 years from now) Cartoon Network and [adult swim] end up merging to a separate name because of [adult swim] expanding its hours over & over again… but who knows, anything is unpredictable at this point.

Smiling Friends is the best AS show in awhile. It's up there with Metalocalypse, ATHF, Squidbillies, and World Peace in terms of my favorite shows
