Adum & Pals: The 2021 Academy Awards 

I'll remember it for that and the Oscars where they tricked Chadwick Boseman's family into attending, only to continually build that they're going to give him Best Actor - then hand it to Anthony Hopkins, who *already has the award* and didn't even show up for it - then toss out a golden NFT of his head. NFT's are basically worthless, so that's even worse.

It's disgusting that they did that to Boseman's family. has nothing to do with race, it just wasn't a good movie. I did like some aspects of it, but it was like a random Marvel / DC movie with no logic. And Kendrick Lamar Soundtrack! Which involves.. drums. wtf? They completely lied about all the promotion of that movie.

But it's a multi-million-dollar ceremony where the attendees wear their best dresses, make-up and hair, many of which expecting to win something and go on stage to be showered with praise. The movie award ceremony isn't for movie people, idiot. Its for cows who like late-night talk shows in the age of mass produced pander... legally you can't even call what they are jokes.

It’s because the oscars aren’t made to appreciate the art anymore, it’s effectively all one big advertisement now (what everyone’s wearing and what films you “should” watch according to the people who payed top dollar for their nominations). It’s all got the air of desperately trying to relate, but everybody here has been so disconnected from the mainstream populace for so long that it’s just comes off as incredibly pretentious and preachy while relating to absolutely nobody.

And then Best Picture goes to a movie about houseless people

A lot of LA homeless people aren't sad charity cases. They're given quite a but and they often refuse shelter. They just go up to a public area and dominate it often making sidewalks unusable. Many are also violent towards passers-by. They ruin private businesses and public spaces. Some homeless people are simply in an unfortunate situation, but those people tend to at least find a more discreet place to sleep, urinate and defecate. We've had to clean human feces and hypodermic needles from our private home property on several occasions.

@@terig8974 I think it’s very ignorant to say that houseless people refuse shelter and “ruin” public spaces. Where else are they supposed to camp out, private property? And in the case of the small group of people who are violent or similar, they’re the ones you notice because they’re the outliers. There’s multiple reasons why someone would refuse to live in a shelter, and ultimately if they do refuse it’s because they think it’s the worse option.

​ @Corbin I'm speaking from experience. Many of the people who takeover sidewalks have been offered shelter. I live very close to the homeless both in proximity and socioeconomically. Most homeless people aren't violent and aggressive, but having people live permanently on a public sidewalk that everyone needs to use, including the wheelchair bound is untenable. They don't have anymore right to takeover public property than anyone else does. They also create unsanitary conditions. We have a serious rat problem that requires a lot of work to try to improve. It's ironic that you're calling me ignorant when I have quite a bit of experience on the topic. I was homeless myself for a short period of time. I have psychological issues that make it difficult for me to maintain work and relationships. I relate to a lot of homeless people. I've had friends and acquaintances who are/were homeless. The mentality that you and most people have about the homeless is the same mentality I had when I was still living with my parents. Homelessness if horrible. That doesn't mean that they should be aloud to claim whatever they want as their own.

The 420 Awards was easily a far more entertaining watch.

Hell, I've gotten sick of Pixar winning every year like it's still 1995. Soul wasn't even that good.

I mean it was visually stunning, but the story felt really generic to me. I loved Song of the Sea and The Secret of Kells but when I watched Wolfwalkers I was bored and disappointed.

It used to mean something for movies, filmmakers, actors and actresses and now it’s basically just Hollywood prom night. I’ll only watch the Oscars if Adam and the gang are doing a watch along stream for it. It gets me through all the cringe that these shows do every year.

For real. I used to be intensely into movies and I would be up to date on the Oscars and all that shit. This year my colleague, who is a family man with two kids and a beautiful wife and therefore gets to watch maybe 2 movies a year, was the one to be like: Hey did you know that Druk (Another Round) won an Oscar? Me: .... The Oscars happened??? The only reason why he mentioned it is because we are Danish and Thomas Vinterberg is one of our favourite directors.

@@plantemor for me it was different: i literally watched almost all the nominated movies before the show just because i had the time, i was really prepared this time around. watched all the shorts and documentaries which never happened before. i gotta say, it wasn’t that bad.

Was genuinely more interested in my haribo starmix than watching Nomadland, god it was so average and long. Not to mention the whole fake corporate cleanliness of the Amazon warehouse really put me off. First 20 mins almost felt like an Amazon advert.

My dude... I went through my Letterboxd (yes, I'm one of those losers) and in 2017, where I started catalogouing movies I watched, I saw 127 from July where I started cataloguing and until new years. 2018 I watched 185 movies. In 2019 I watched 101 movies. In 2020 I watched 108 movies. This year I have watched 16 and I don't plan on watching that many more movies this year either. I used to be one of those people who would watch the Oscars every year but I have no memory of the last time I tuned in to watch that shit :P Legit went from being a habitual movie-nut to having no idea what is happening in the world of movies and not caring. I'm wondering how many people are in the same boat as you and me.

There are many reasons why I stopped watching movies and one of the reasons is fatigue from the billion different streaming services that want your money while not providing good/varied content. This year was just the year where I decided I don't care anymore and I still find it kinda weird because I used to be obsessed with movies.

It honestly perfectly illustrates how desperate and powerless traditional media has become, as now anybody can make decent or memorable content nowadays that rivals that of those with a hundreds to thousands times the budget.

That's why almost nobody has seen this year or next. Cause we know they don't care about the movies or which movies get the award.
