In this video lesson, Jim Greiner continues his series on how-to play the LP Afuche Cabasa. Holding the afuche with your dominant hand make a shallow arc upwards. Let the beads spin and then follow the arc back down. Relax and breathe so that the movement is fluid. Like many instruments start with traditional methods but experiment and discover your own playing techniques.

These Latin Percussion videos are the best tutorials I've ever seen because they understand that teaching is about simplicity and repetition, not showing off.

I picked up an Afuche twice the size of this at Goodwill and the roll takes me two hands!

Nice Jim. Really good. I also like to include some seeds inside of the afuxe, so you can use a mix of afuxe e shaker at the same time. All the best.

Not sure if you covered this in the first video, but there's also the very tight sound you can get by shaking it in an up/down fashion, so that the rows of beats click against each other. It's staccato and quiet, but interesting if you can get the timing right.
