This is such an important topic!!! We need to protect our planet...it's the only one we have 😢😭 This is also a very popular topic for all sorts or exams (Cambridge, Trinity, IELTS...) so I'm defo recommending this video to my students! Thank you for this lesson 👌
I've had a couple conversations about the environment with students recently. The challenge is all the vocabulary! I'm going to create a short handout on my ELT blog later today for other teachers who want a quick set of exercises to review key words before jumping into full discussions. englishwithjennifer.wordpress.com/ Thank you for checking out the video.
Fascists and dictators from Hitler to Stalin to the Communist Chinese Red Brigade always used children as puppets to further their agenda's. Brain washed youth's lack discernment and believe what they are programmed to think.. Ex- Nazi George Soros who funds Climate change group's witnessed and adopted that long ago. He watched Hitler Youth go after the jews and even their parents for not believing Hitlers dogma.
With a clearer understanding of the vocabulary being used, language learners are now in a better position to judge the intention or value or certain public talks, such as Greta Thungberg's. As mentioned in the video, there are two basic ways to view her role as a climate activist.
I've joined your channel about a week ago and set to a watch a video every day. Not only does your teaching helps for those learning English as second language but also general knowledge. For instance, I have always heard people talking about climate change or politicians debating it but I have never bothered to know what's what. Nevertheless. The 18 minutes videos was educational. Thanks Jennifer.
Hi Jaylani. Well, I'm no expert, but I like to share what I know and explain it to the best of my ability. The goal is to have enough knowledge and enough language to understand what people are talking about and possibly express an opinion if you'd like to. It's good to have a bit of knowledge of different subjects because conversation can take many turns. It's not always about one thing. This is an election year in the U.S., so if you watch our news in the fall when the candidates debate, you'll likely hear about climate change again. Take care!
What a super lesson this is. If our politicians explained climate change as well as Jennifer, then they may get more people on board. I can certainly see recharging stations replacing gas stations in the future. As for coal, that will be found in museums along with all other old fossils.
Ha ha. Maybe you're right about coal ending up in museums. Public pay phones already look strange to the younger generation. One day, they'll be in a museum. Maybe we'll be telling or grandchildren about using a gas pump "in the olden days." Overall, though, I think fast, drastic changes can sound off-putting, so there will need to be enough evidence to get every citizen on board. Thank you for staying up so late for the reload. :) Love your dedication!
@@Englishwithjennifer Yes, but pay phones are still going to be needed for those who forget or lose their mobile phones. it's gosh late here! You can imagine my frustration that time I couldn't get on the Internet. I didn't like missing out on the Internet gossip.
@@Englishwithjennifer madam, I want to learn English but I don't have enough to money to join the English courses.... Can you teach me about spoken English?
Hello, I'm form Brasil, but I've been living in U.S for 2 years, I'm new member . I like so much your videos , today I understood 90% what you tallked . Thank you
Hi Jennifer. This is really a highly impactive topic. I hope Egypt join an agreement like this and begin to take some actions towards protecting the environment. You should also talked about smoking cigarettes. I think it has a crucial role in destroying the environment.
Actually, vaping might be a more timely subject. As for the environment, I'm not sure which climate plans are most realistic, but certainly having some awareness along with a degree of planning is needed by all governments. My family isn't ready to give up meat or our SUV yet, to be honest. ;) But I'm open to hearing arguments for change.
Hi Jennifer is a pleasure to watch her videos caring for the planet is obligation of all people but unfortunately many people only aim profits and destroys our planet Thank you so much for your video and have a great weekend you and your family 😉🇧🇷
Dear Jennifer, Thanks so much for your great lesson improving my vocabulary because I am preparing my CAE Exam, held in December 2020. Warm greeting from Germany
Hello Jennifer! Nice to see you! It was a very useful lesson. I have learnt a lot of new words. Only one remark is. There are no concrete prooves of coming of the global warming. All of these are only hypotheses of some scientists. Maybe we need waiting for opposite things in the near future. Let's see how it goes.
Hi Sergei. I agree that more research needs to be done. I think the general public wants to understand how serious the situation is before agreeing to significant changes. Thanks for watching! Have a great weekend.
Hi Jennefer, I've enjoyed watching this scientific video. This is another complex and controversial topic dividing people . For me, I believe in science, but sometimes even science is used for political agenda. I think It is all about economy. If the renewable energy were a profit issue then all countries would use it, but unfortunately it is not at lest till now. Every thing we use nowadays depends on fossil fuels. Electricity, food, water, heating transportation, clothes and other things need energy to be generated or powered and this energy should be sheap. That's why, oil, coal, and gas are still used. I agree that global warming threatens life on Earth especially coastal regions but as long as renewable energy doesn't have a profit point, no government will depend on it entirely, they will build some kinds of it such as solar power system , wind energy, and other types here and there but they are not enough. As individuals we can do some things to reduce our carbon footprint like cycling to work, planting trees, not using much water, sorting our rabbish, but I do not think it works when it comes to climate change. Do you know that some scientists say that we are heading to a new ice period!. The only solution to mitigate the future disaster is the inexistence of fossil fuel. So, we have to wait until that happens. I love Jennifer, keep uploading interesting topics.
Thank you for watching and reflecting on this topic. You're very right to point out how complex this issue is. We can't just think about the environment in isolation. We have to think about the economy, too. Hollywood has given us some scenarios where the government didn't want to listen to warnings about extreme weather events and there were catastrophic consequences. But I sympathize with the politicians to some degree. Every decision they make has to take many factors into account, and no decision is going to make everyone happy. People want their conveniences. Companies need profit. Workers want their jobs. Families want to keep food on the table. I wonder if a true climate crisis (like the ones we see in disaster movies) would unite us to fight together for survival and put aside our differences.
There actually hasent been a change in the rate the sea level rises. Its been basically constant. What happens in anything you see published that says the rate is increasing, is that they simply change their sample. Changing what stations your sample, can create any trend. Satellites areny quite as accurate as they should be. They drift. They use a bit of trig and some steep angles to refine their accuracy from meters to mm. Extreme weather isnt getting worse, forrest fires arent getting worse, droughts arent getting worse, etc.
Hopefully, with the vocabulary in this lesson, language learners will be able to read more about the subject and draw their own conclusions. Thanks for using two useful words: hoax (countable noun) = a deception fraud (countable/uncountable noun) = the crime of trying to make something seem real or true
I think this is a very interesting topic we have to face the climate change in our daily life first then at national and global level thank you for explaining such good way
Yes. We can view this problem at different levels. It helps us understand what we can do even as individuals. Thanks for watching, Federica. Thanks again for being a member!
"Area" is more general and is used more frequently. "Area" can be a physical space or a field of knowledge. "Realm" is often associated with royalty: kingdom = realm. If you use "realm" to mean an area of knowledge or interest, then you'll use it only in writing or more academic contexts. It's not conversational.
Ha ha. Yes, it's a lot. Advanced students likely already know some of these words. The lesson pulls all the key vocabulary together in less than 20 minutes. It's review and expansion. Now you're ready for a discussion on the topic. ;) I encourage you to read related news articles to reinforce your understanding of these words. Have a great weekend! :) Suggested wording: That's a ton of vocabulary. It makes my head explode. (OR My head is about to explode.)
Alright Jennifer.☺I said that want to learn the imperial system of measurment which is used in the U.S. Can give me a useful source or a link to any thing so that I can learn? What do you suggest? Thanks😉

From Brazil By Marcio Hello, Dear Jen... long time no see. British Scientist says: The asteroid Apophis is coming soon... in teen years... and it will collide to Europe. Do you believe it?
Hi Marcio! It's actually the first time I've heard of the asteroid. I'll read more about it. Thanks for an interesting topic to investigate. ;) Note: We usually say "collide with" not "collide to."
Yes, pretty sure. I think there are two basic ways to view young Greta Thunberg. There are at least two ways to view the Green New Deal. I mentioned all this. My explanations aren't meant to be endorsements. I'm not going to name any other candidate for the 2020 election right now other than President Trump. I was open to hearing Trump's reasons for leaving the Paris Climate Accord, and I'm listening to candidates' arguments to rejoin. I'd like to continue to learn about climate plans, but I'm also looking for evidence that justifies immediate action. I hope the vocabulary helps others make sense of all the discussions in the media today. Thanks for watching the lesson!
Well, your topic is not easy at all. Ok, nowadays we have "understood" that we live in a living planet, the Earth, and not in a universe abstract. Today we get the consequences of our faults, I mean what we did in the past and what we are doing in the present day. But who did it? Who is responsible for that? It was necessary to see that young girl, I mean Greta Thunberg who has started fighting for all of us? Nothing has done until now, and I am certain that nothing will be done in the future. I am not catastrophic just a real man who has lost all confidence in these men who continue ruling the world just only for the money. It's the same thing for human respect. This is a strange world and we have no force to change it. I hope to be wrong but the future will give us the answer.
I think at times many of us have the same feelings of frustration as we watch debates and struggles take place around us and beyond us. We wonder if we truly have no power to influence events. Even with the belief there is something we can do, we question the wisdom of even trying. I certainly don't have the answers. Although I mentioned climate plans in the video, I'm not ready to endorse one. I'd like to learn more first. For each plan to be carried out, what's the investment? How will everyone be impacted in the present as well as in the future? At the very least, we need to continue discussions and be open to hearing all opinions and even contradictory information. As you said, it's not an easy topic. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts.
How do u come with an amazing video everytime :) Ma'am i asked u a question in ur previous video. I know u r extremely busy, would u mind solving my problem, please "The only thing i want to do is______(verb/noun)" You answered - it should be a verb. What would be the answer if the sentence is"The only thing i want to learn is_____(noun/verb) Ma'am ,would u please explain the reason. I am confused with the fact that the subject is talking about a thing so shouldn't it be a noun?? Please answer Please
Hi. Glad you liked the lesson. 1) The only thing I want to do is SLEEP/ EAT/ TAKE A SHOWER/ etc. The answer is a base verb to match "do." 2) The only thing I want to learn is MATH/ ENGLISH GRAMMAR/ HOW TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. The answer is a noun (word/phrase/clause) to answer the question, "What do you want to learn?"
Ma'am GW & CC much concern for world Bigger powers like US and china are huge intensifiers of GW But when it's come to cope with the issue, these Powers refuse to funding global institutions that are coping with the issue. GW owing to the weakening ozone layer which is not restraining Altra violet Rays reaching to Earth. It is high time to take pragmatic steps to cope with the issue of Gw, otherwise the mance of GW will have devastating results to our existence.
I think it's difficult for governments to take action on any issue. There's never full agreement, and the politicians have to consider everyone's interests. Where should tax payer money go? What if there's serious disagreement about where to invest the money? I think we can all agree on the value of research in order to understand how serious the problem is. Then we can talk about action. Thanks for watching and joining the discussion.
Hi. I think it's a stretch to call this a rant, but I did aim to present a lot of the ideas discussed in the news these past weeks. Voices on the left have been very vocal, but my acknowledgement of any position doesn't equate to an endorsement. There's a lot of terminology and there are different policies and proposals being mentioned. I wanted to explain the basics to help clarify the issues being discussed by others. Most of the language learners watching are adults, and they're free to come to their own conclusions about the need for climate plans, the dangers of fossil fuels, the feasibility of renewable energy, and the nature of Greta Thunberg's actions. You're welcome to express arguments against global warming.
@@Englishwithjennifer When you express a view point from a point of view it is a rant. No matter how morally correct it may seem. Note no counter points.
@@jmuld1 I'm sorry you perceived my talk as an angry one. It certainly wasn't intended that way. Nor did I hope for my explanation of political policies or plans to be seen as an endorsement. I've never stated my political affiliation publicly in the 10+ years I've been online. Some educators are open about that; I choose not to disclose that information because I wish my virtual classroom to be a space that welcomes all views. I appreciate your point that we look for accurate information about global warming and carbon emissions from human activity. Now that English language learners watching this video have a stronger handle on the vocabulary, they can move forward and seek more information on other websites. I have faith that many will remain open to hearing different arguments and learning about research studies. U.S. politicians (Republicans and Democrats), international scientists, and even young Miss Thunberg want to speak on this topic. I'm personally open to hearing them all. Thanks for your strong interest.
So sorry! I don't think I did, but strange things sometimes happen on YT. I had problems with comments on the community tab last week. This week I can't organize my playlists. Would you like to post a similar comment again?
@@Englishwithjennifer No.I've just asked you about the imperial system but I did't get the answer because my original comment has gone.Anyway thank you! ☺
