I've just finished "the sign of four" an an hour ago, I'm glad to find that you made a video about it. When I found myself in a foreign country and the sun was hiding behind the clouds for weeks I started a Sherlock Holmes marathon. I've finished already "a study in scarlet" and this one, and enjoyed them both a lot. I think I'm going to carry this thing to the end. Always a pleasure to watch you talking about classics, much love ❤❤

What a real gem this channel is. The explanation was quite useful! How do you go about understanding the meaning of complex sentences? What does that process looks like? I ask that because I have quite a difficult time trying to make sense of such challenging language that is being used on some of the books that I want the most to read. I have found that just looking up the words, frequently, is not enough to make it clear. If you could shine some light on this, that would be really appreciated ♡

Thank you for your wonderful comment! Your question reminds me of my own struggles while learning Arabic (fusHa). I knew plenty of words, and I could Google translate any individual word I wanted, but actually uncovering the meaning of long sentences was the hardest part. I remember reading a sentence, knowing the official definition of every word, but I could not for the life of me string together the meaning behind it when all those words were grouped together. My advice to you is this: 1) start by recognizing the strange ways that an English sentence can be written. Expose yourself to new books/writings/articles where you'll be challenged to read things that you don't understand. 2) When actually reading a complex sentence, try to break it down into parts. Locate the subject and predicate--every proper sentence has them. The rest of the sentence is really just extra details! 3) Persevere! Don't be too discouraged if you can't understand something, and don't spend too much time on any one part of the sentence, paragrah, etc. Sometimes, if you skip a part that you don't understand, you'll find something in the next sentence that helps you understand the previous one. I still skip over nouns and verbs that I don't know while reading in Arabic. I think that fluency in a foreign language requires long-term exposure in which you discover all the different ways that the language can be used. (I think I'll make a video that expands upon the way English sentences "work" in comparison to Arabic!) Anyway, I hope this helped a little bit, and if you ever have a sentence you'd like help with, please just go ahead and post it here in a comment!❤️

Please keep doing these kind of videos ❤ Also a small note in 3:30 to witness doesn’t mean( istcheda استشهد) in Arabic it rather means (shaheda شَهَدَ)

@philonena
@philonena 2 дня назад
شَهِدَ وليس شَهَدَ باختصار، "شَهَدَ" تتعلق بتقديم الشهادة أو المعلومات، بينما "شَهِدَ" تتعلق بالحضور أو المعاينة المباشرة، وفي هذا السياق فإن المقصود هو المعاينة المباشرة

Nice video. however, try to publish it earlier in moroccan time not for my sake but for the success of the video on youtube. Posting late at night is not beneficial because it doesn't get enough views in the first hours after being published Good luck 👍

Hi Gigi, I came across your profile and saw that you’re interested in teaching Arabic and English, which I also have a passion for! I have two bachelor's degrees: one in Spanish Language Literature and Linguistics, and the most recent one in English Linguistics. In addition, I’ve also studied Moroccan Linguistics. I live nearby, and if you’re interested, feel free to reach out. I’d love to discuss our shared interests in languages! Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards, Redouane
