Imagine your astro image looks pretty good, but you want to improve the sharpness just in the weak blue areas. What if you would like to reduce the influence of the red color on dimmer areas but want to retain the definition found in the red channel? You can do all that and more by splitting the color channels in your image and separating their high and low frequency information.

Hi…wonderful tutorial…would you please show us how various masks could be used in this process to specifically zero in on regions. Also is it possible to create a mask in Pixinsight and use it in Affinity Photo?

I don't think you can create a mask in PI that you can then apply in Affinity Photo. Affinity Photo and other non-destructive, layer-based photo editors have quite a few mask options. I promise to cover masks at some point, though I rarely use them in the usual way. I approach them as integrated ways to augment the power of compositing, so I'll have to also cover mask theory when I address this.

Hey, great video that is comming right in the time I try to integrate more of the frequencie aspect to my processing. Does anyone know what transform is used is Affinity to separate the low and hight frequencie ?

In AP, go to the Filters menu up top, go down to Frequency Separation. Move the radius slider to set how much HF you want to separate from the LF.

@@SKYST0RY I was mostly asking on the matematical tool that could be used by Affinity in order to seprate the frequencies. For exemple it could be the Fourrier or wavelet transform for exemple.

@@maximeraymond2446 Gotcha! I read about it ages ago but don't recall. I'm more about the practical application.

@@SKYST0RY No worries, thanks a lot for showing how the tool works ;)

Okay, how do you make the stars move in the image at the end of the video?

He has a video on that also.

Sorry for the late reply. I've been on a video making marathon with the upcoming advanced LRGB series. To make a moving star field, you need software to create the starfield and screen capture it. You can do this with Space Engine. Then you screen composite the starfield video over the image in video editing software. I use Resolve for most video editing, HitFilm if I need to do heavy CGI work. You can even divide up the image to give a more 3D effect. I show how to do this in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b7LI2nujCfg.htmlsi=O8aHUc9UvKypkZnL
