I do NOT know why no one on RU-vid tells anyone this.. BUT here's the REAL secret to slipping.. when fighting, don't look at the opponent in the face, stare DIRECTLY in the center of his chest, because simply for the non-fighters, if they/you look in the face the guy might intimidate you. From there you can see his arms move.. his legs, body, feet, you can see everything by staring at the center of his chest. Now just do what he does with the head movement thing(In part 1 of Advanced Slipping), and trust me, when you see punches you'll be like a ghost. BUT warning you! Do not expect to slip all punches automatically on the first try! You have to practice it every day to get your body's reactions just kicking in! Slipping is pretty much all about reaction and countering. Then, after practicing for about 6 months or even 3 months, you'll see HUGE changes and how you won't be controlling your body, your body'll automatically just move. And this also explains the reactions people get when they turn around, and there's a... soccer ball coming for their head and they hurry and duck. THEY didn't do it. It was all reaction, don't expect punches like "Oh he's gonna throw the right, so I'll move to the left" DONT DO THAT! It'll screw you up!
+Batman The tactic of "looking at the chest" is commonly referenced a lot and meant as a secret for beginners. When you reach some level of aptitude, you don't have to stare at the chest either because you can literally feel all his punches coming. Just from the angle of his spine and the way he throws his first jab, I can already guess where the right hand is coming from and the left hook following up behind it. The way his torso turns, you can also guess what's coming back. And when you get even beyond that level...it's less and less about avoiding his punches and more about setting up your counters. It's HOW you slip his punches that can help you pull him or tilt him even more off balance so you have more space to land the counter you really want.
You need to demonstrate better technique. Your verbal instructions are okay, but the demonstrations are lazy and improper. Hands down. Turning your head away. Sticking out your chin... C'mon
This is advanced technique and the video looks weird as hell with my gloves up to my face. When I find videos of top pros doing this...like Toney, Whitaker, even Canelo....all of them have their gloves lowered a little bit. Ultimately, I decided to focus on explaining/displaying the main principle than trying to abide by every single textbook rule in boxing. About turning the head away....yeah, they do that.
I think the hands naturaly want to go to those possitions to make the movment easyer and for the sake of the vide he is teaching movment and slipping never said nothing about blocking and until you get good enough you will figure out where your hands really need to be lol
Not really. It's a common pro move to slip to the inside like that. It all depends on how your opponent throws his jab and how he stands. Some stances make the right hand slower to come in and so you have the opportunity to stick your head in and then pull it back out when you launch a counter hook. It's a common high-level amateur tactic but yeah, don't do it unless you really know what you're doing.
If you try to use this move to slip one punch, it will seem very difficult and awkward. If you try this against somebody throwing multiple punches this style of slipping is easy to do because it keeps you in rhythm with your opponent. If you're trying to be fast as opposed to trying to be in sync with your opponent, then yes it will be very risky. Either way this is advanced technique. For those that can use it, great. For everybody else, yes it's highly risky.
Trading a straight right to receive a left hook to the body isn't always a good idea. For one thing you could miss. Another thing is a left hook to the body can be more damaging and hinder your movements. It still comes down to whatever you want to do.
Because the way most fighters position/move, if you throw a right hook, it will land on his shoulder. Therefore most right hands are either straight or overhand.
Melagrath Ren Because -- I do NOT know why no one on RU-vid tells anyone this.. Melagrath Ren so if they use thier jab witch in this case they are right handed you need to go outside of the punch meaning your head your head should be where there elbow skin is like on that side
It seems funny on video but in actual sparring, the movement is more fluid and natural than it appears here. Especially when you're fully extending your arm and letting it drop down to your waist instead of rushing to pull the hand back. My focus is more on getting my head out of the way than blocking my body.
Thanks bro ..i watch your videos a lot ... and its help me ...i saw a lot of similarities in your style....now im 18-0 in the amateur boxing thanks a lot bro i hope you create more videos.... it helps more a lot specially on the aspiring pro boxers like me...I used most of your lessons and techniques in your videos but sometimes i caught hahaha....but its improve my boxing movements. I appreciate all of your videos Thanks a lot
Yes, people say that all the time..."NEVER SLIP INSIDE, because you're slipping into the other hand." Yet it's an option and used by many many fighters who know what to do with it. Thanks for stopping by, Strabbs.
Yes. When it works, yes you can. I don't like doing that because I don't know if it's a body shot counter. Also, I like using the natural flow of movement. What I teach allows me to stay with my own natural flow of movement. If you can stick that elbow out in a way that flows with how you move--great.
I like your style as well I like my style. I boxed for ever when I was young back in the 70s. I'm going on 63 now & have diabetes & other ailments I was 250 lbs then & I'm 200 lbs now My doctor told me I'd best lose this weight & or as, in fact I did have a mild heart attack with out even knowing it., I started to go back to boxing & the kids were just too young. So I tried going to an MMA club & I told them I was not a kick fighter & they said they'd spar with me & not use their feet. I participated awhile & right off the bat I was defeating them' & actually I was even holding back, Now I'm talking about I was fighting with pro MMA fighters as they do fight for a living at the casino's & other establishments & they are at between the age of 18 & 35. Well to make a long story short they got agitated at me & said they weren't going to fight me any longer with out their feet as I was supposedly cramping their style. So I told them & said I told you when I came in I was not a kick fighter, so anyway go ahead & use your feet, & I'll do what I can do.And they did tried to break my knees, kicked down low & dirty, swooped me off my feet dropping me on my ass & I'd quit after that for Just for awhile as I did not like the punishment as I had no defense against kicks. But I did get myself a heavy bag & watched on You Tube all the MMA fighting & focussed on the best defense. I knew most good MMA fighters were only good if prior they were boxer's & they win most time boxing & or sucker hits or kicks But I needed to defend myself against the feet & now my design is defeating the feet with my technique. I still am not or do I want to be a kick fighter as I always said kicking is for girls. Sure the feet is powerful but with my technique' I destroy their feet. Especially with my tornado twist blaster, & elbow basher & cress cross whip. I have right now got over a hundred & 30 video's on You Tube training defense against kicks. I was 1st beat up, & insulted when they claimed MMA fighting is superior to boxing, I don't think so! I came back & whipped the crap out of all of them one at a time at my age. Now who's laughing. LOL If you will check me out on You Tube Under Dave Overbey Fight training. Make sure it's me as their is another couple Dave Overbey's of no relation fighting in MMA & They aren't me I'm The one & only old bald headed idiot. LOL. When I fought competition years ago, they called me sting em dead Dave Overbey & in the streets i was known as not Rocky but as Punchy Puncherallo LOL At my age I feel pretty good or I could be fooling myself but I feel good anyway! I fear no one & dare everyone. I don't think I'm cocky but for sure I'm confident. Any way watch my technique to defeat the feet if you will & get back to me on your thoughts. I know I'm not cocky because actually I'm pretty humble & considerate. Watching my video's I think most people doubt on account I teach it at a moderate pace instructing the technique as I'm not show boating like the really cocky ones. I'm trying to teach the habits into a reflex & into a thoughtless reaction to every action & for it to be mastered one must slow down & develop the correct habits over the muscle hustle as the true muscle is your muscle memory & leverage. Thanks Punchy. Thanks again I'm Punchy Puncherallo my grand son will be the next rising star. Look for Mason Yount. He's only 7 now but he's going to learn slow & easy the technique. He won't be trading punches as so he will deliver.
They are different concepts. PART 1 is learning how to minimize movement while still giving the illusion of movement. PART 2 is about how to change the angle of the body to increase slipping effectiveness.
Nice but one rule of thumb in boxing never slip a jab or cross to the inside. you set yourself in a dangerous position to a counter with the other hand especially more so with the jab.
Ok cool your videos are really helping me out i am 18 now and training in the george foreman gym in houston tx im hoping to compete in the golden gloves soon im 165 lbs middle weight
There will always be "experts and haters" but I find your instructional style straightforward and discover things to try. Keep putting these up as some of us appreciate the effort to do so. I'm a beginner but believe one can always learn something new no matter how much experience. The knife analogy is very good as I sometimes square up too often and have to remind myself to get "thin". Thanks!
that is right... this tips tutorials make me wanna box.. i haven't started yet but i got gloves and hand wraps now plus i am doing his tips already... thanks for tips ExpertBoxing pls keep up the good work..!! i want more for footwork.., i want to learn a footwork that can disappear from opponents sight..!! pls..!!
Thanks. Good advice, please tell people to concentrate on the center of the chest of your opponent...not the face. Looking @the face BLIND you from what should be your FOCUS, shoulders , arms and legs. You'll be able to react much quicker. I learn this from CHROME (below comment). Good videos, man.
I think some moves are usefull and makes more chanses to win a fight. I like how evade a hook is easy bit you need to know how. The only move i think is "bad" is blocking a liver hook making a rare move with The right like a yoga move xD looks dangerous
I actually enjoyed the Vid Bro. You definitely have me interested into looking at more of your videos. You made it kinda simple to understand the movements. I'm into boxing HardBody lol. The vid was official to me.
hands up shoulders in footwork plays a big role in boxing it's not just knowing how to move your head you have to incorporate footwork into that training if you do this
+Tiffany Arroyo Fully agree. To each of these body and head movents there is a complementary footwork that ads much more efficiency to defense/counter. Footwork will help to get the fighter back into balance in order to counter with more power. And, of course, hands always up.
Hey guys, my name is Frank, im a martial artist with a background in taekwondo and kick boxing, started training in brazilian jiujitsu 2 month ago. Id really appreciate it if some of you took a second to check out our channel. we will be uploading Mixed Martial Arts Sparring Fight Videos every week. The idea was for us and you to keep track of our progression as we train, learn and become better fighters. We are really passionate about what we do and we train hard. Thanks alot for your time and have a nice day !
This is very sloppy technique wise sorry and you are doing a lot of mistakes in the video Johhny. And I am saying as a boxer who started 22 years ago. And I don't want to hurt you but this is what happens when you don't learn the proper technique in the gym.
Does this technique work for body shots well? my sparring partners usually end up going for lots of body shots and i need to learn to counter/block/evade them
i tried keepin my left hand down like u show us in the gym but my couch shouts to keep my freakin hands up:Phow can i go slim from fat with my hands up like u show in the video ?
i know this is about slipping but wouldnt it have been more easier to just raise your right arm up to have your elbow pointing forwards to avoid the left hook ?
Lot of people on here commenting thinkng that these slipping techniques don't work raving on but he has clearly said advanced meaning for someone who really knows what they are doing. not for beginner's. I'm still learning and know if I tryed this i would probably get knocked out. and here are beginner's thinking they know more then someone way more experienced. anyways nice vids man i've learned heaps and getting better.
Basic techniques that people make mistakes with and are commonly ignored are: 1) Keep the chin down! Not too tense, you don't wanna feel a burn, just keep the chin tucked away and eyes up and out. 2) Hands up at all times and elbows in tight! You throw a left? Keep your left shoulder blocking the left side of the jaw and the right hand UP! and vise versa. 3) Constant side to side head movement! Don't let them time it, but keep the head in constant motion. You throw a right hand? Move your head from the right side to the left with the shot, then back. Keep moving. 4) Find your range! Do you fight in close? Or do you use long range and stay on the outside? Perhaps you're good either way... figure it out! 5) Punches in bunches! Close the distance and POW-POW-POW POW and get out of there! Why land one or two when you can get in 4 or 5? String your punches together. 6) Stick and move! After you land a punch or combination, move your head immediately. If it makes him miss then come back with another and move to the other side. Don't waste time. 7) Get superior angle on your opponent. You have twelve rounds to get it. Plenty of time. Find the right split second and pivot to the side of your opponent, use this brief moment to do damage that won't help your opponent last. Put everything into a power shot to the liver or kidney's then get back outta there. To set up this superior angle, you can fake moving left and jolt to the right if he's chasing you, then you have his whole right or left side open. Bring a KABOOM to the organs!
This is okay but you need to move your feet. Slipping with only your upper body you can only dodge if I'm standing right in front of you. If I step down on a double jab you'll take the second one. I could also step down and attack the body easily from there.
Seriously!! You are dangerous..Dangerous in the sense that you are guiding people to a fast track of getting hurt. Your form is sloppy, your movement is bad. I Can't believe you call yourself expert boxing. This is not good Johnny. If you started the segment with say "Hey i'm Johnny i'm learning also, i'm definitely no expert" then people wouldn't take your word as gosple.. You could be responsible for some blokes thinking they can handle themselves because they've been practising Johnny's techniques and then boom, on their back..Good luck
The name was the only "cool one" available at the time but I sure do hope to get better at this as not to get people knocked out. Thank you for your feedback.
Anybody can use this technique. There's no requirement to be tall or thin. If anything, it will help short boxers more as they can use body movement rather than footwork (which can be more tiring).
