On smaller waters or in low water conditions, casts with a so-called "Sustained Anchor" can have a certain spooking effect. In a Sustained Anchor cast, the line is positioned on the water to initiate the change of direction for the next cast. And, logically, wherever we can avoid or reduce water contact with our line, we are much more stealthy, cause less disturbance, and ultimately have a better chance of catching a fish.
So, how do we avoid water contact with the line and the resulting noise during the direction change of our spey casts? Stephan Dombaj has the answer! In this video, he shows you a few simple, helpful tricks for repositioning your line in the air, making your Spey casts more effective.

Outstanding information and demo!! Thanks for sharing your technique. Noisy water sounds isn’t good effect, however some trouts don’t care about that. But I wanna go forward more!! This information is epic!! Thanks😄👍

Good concise video, I'd agree with Stephan, we probably don't need all of the fancy repositioning casts but they are fun to learn and teach. Single spey to 90 degrees should be in everyone's tool kit. If there is one piece of advice I could give a beginner , that is to learn to cast off both hands, roll cast and jump roll off both shoulders when practicing. If you can master both sides , you will fish in all conditions in any location when other anglers are going home. Main thing is to enjoy it!

Yes we agree, you can keep it quite simple but most important is to enjoy it! Thanks for your elaborate feedback ✌

Nice movie, well demonstrated. Good variation of casts. Just a few thoughts on the sustained anchor. A sustained anchor to me is an anchor, which I give EXTRA time (mostly 2 to 4 seconds). For the casts in this film I may differentiate between "airborne" and "waterborne" anchors. The Double Spey for example would be a waterborne anchor, while the Snake roll would be an airborne anchor. A sustained anchor instead I use for special line setups (like Skagit outfits). But that to me is about allowing the anchor to extra sink. Not what I want for Scandi- or more traditional Speycasting-outfits. In fact I don't extra pause in a Double Spey using a traditional or Scandi-outfit at all. About splashing the water or not, it's rather the performance level than the type of cast itself being key. Again, nice film, thumb up! Regards Bernd

The fish know you are there already when you are many meters away from the water sir....Now when that's said a single spey is all you need in 99,99% of all spots and conditions.....
