Advanced Staff Spinning Tutorial

For this technique we combine two basic flowering or spinning motions and transfer from hand to hand while the staff travels around the body. Sounds like a lot and kind of is a lot, but once you get the hang of it, the technique will carry itself. If you need extra details and help for the part behind the back, check this video out: • Advanced Staff Spinnin... it goes into much more detail on just that part!
Work hard and have fun!!!

Dear Sifu Kuttel, thank you very much for the effort and the quality you put into your content. Thanks to you, I'm now able to do some pretty neat tricks with any weapon that I grab in my hands. Even though I don't apply it for self-defense or in actual combat, the fact that everyone watches me like I'm some sort of a trickster-god makes me really happy. Thanks again for teaching me those amazing moves, keep your content up, I'm eager to see much more.

Kung Fu Sifu Kuttel ~ Straightforward , enjoyable presentation tutorial . In my youth during down time at a sheet metal shop , pushing a broom kept me busy and that led invariably to all the karate flying out of me lol . Staff captured the imagination but the internet was not there . This tutorial would have been a major factor to me , I'm sure you would have created a monster (just kidding ) good work though , thank you so much

Hey, really enjoyn your videos, really eazy to understand and to follow the instructions. Where can I order a good double end stuff?
@SifuKuttel
@SifuKuttel 2 года назад
It depends on what you want to use it for. I like rattan double end staffs, they are very flexible and can still handle contact, but they tend to splinter after enough striking. You can find thick traditional waxwood staffs, although those tend to taper on one end. Lastly, you can go with a typical bo staff with a hardwood like oak or ash. You can order kung fu Staffs from kung fu direct in the US or Dragonsports in EU: www.kungfudirect.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=59_118_135 www.dragonsports.eu/en/200480-staffs-sticks

Was this weapon ever used against a Katana?
@SifuKuttel
@SifuKuttel 7 лет назад
Yes, as far as I understand staff was taught to commoners to protect themselves since they were not allowed to possess swords.
@galvinstanley3235
@galvinstanley3235 7 лет назад
There is an arguement,that anyone that used a Bo Staff to fight someone with a Kitana,would be killed.Especially if the person using the Bo Staff was using it with both hands in the middle of the Bo Staff.What do you think?
@SifuKuttel
@SifuKuttel 6 лет назад
If the katana could get a clean shot on the staff it'd be likely to snap, but when matched up with sword, the long range techniques would be more effective. The center grip is better for defending against shorter weapons like knives and sticks. Then again, it all depends on the variables of the situation.

@SifuKuttel

That would take some practice, but I believe it to be doable. You'll just have to move the blade flat past your body.

Really great video, but I still can't get the spin on the left side to work. I either twist the staff onto my wrist or almost hit myself. Do you have an idea how I can do it better? Edit: Just noticed the next video on the playlist is the answer to my question😅.

Try to continue the flow once you grab it. When you grab it with the L. hand make sure to have your thumb up, and then your arm will extend out to the L and your L. hand will end up Thumb down. Once your L. arm is outstretched, that's when you turn your thumb back up, and continue until it points out towards the left

Ossu Sifu Much Respect! Great videos. I subscribed as "truthseeker" I was getting trouble with "Advanced Staff Spinning Tutorial - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6foHx8cGedM.html" I got the right hand part down until the left hand holds the staff while it points outward. The rest of the left hand movement is unclear to me as it goes around the left part of the body back to the right hand. This causes the transition from my left hand to the right hand unclear and not smooth to me. Can you do a detailed slower video concerning this part, I'd appreciate it very much, thanks!
@Thelastwarrior
@Thelastwarrior 3 года назад
The left part is confusing
@SifuKuttel
@SifuKuttel 3 года назад
It is, because you have to rely on the feeling of the staff since you can't see it during the entire spin. The most common problem with the left hand is to let the staff rotate more behind the body before bringing the bottom (pinky) end up in front of the body. I don't know if that's the case for you, but check and make sure the staff does a full rotation behind the body when it is your left hand before you bring it in front of the body. Also check this video and see if it helps ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZaiuUhJ-mQQ.html
