So happy seeing a professional player commenting on the bad hit reg, broken combos and unpredictable guard/range. There's so many issues with melee combat in this game I wish more players would acknowledge it as a serious issue so Rare would devote more time to fixing it.
Rare listen to complaints about their perfect pirate game? If you don't like other pirates being better than you at sword fighting you just gotta get good.
I know I’m late but some higher-end mouses have a dpi switch button, so if you have one you can use it to switch between ‘sword mode’ (high dpi) and ‘gun mode’ (lower dpi).
I jist started playing SoT and watched a lot of your tutorial. I really love the sword and watched your old video so this is a perfect timing with the video :D
I'm more of a defensive player and never going to get that good, but this will be golden for better defense. Nice tips, they make sense and well explained!
I took a good break from fighting in Season 4 and 5 due to all the new content really just being PvE and a lack of good fights. Even your inaugural Reaper day was sadly lacking for my crew. But this is a good reminder of using the sword hop, my last few sessions I started to see new players (roughly 200 hours) picking fights so I need to brush up on my hand to hand.
Solo play being harder is only good because us solo players are used to it. These buffs make solo play genuinely viable against a competent large crew specifically the respawn timer and I love that. A shorter respawn timer just means more time playing the game and less waiting and more player interactions in pvp. This is strictly a good update from my perspective and I don’t understand your point at all of it needing to be longer.
Would the slash n grab be harder on console? I feel as though the way sticks work would make even the most skilled Xbox users unable to do it, but I’m unsure if it’s even harder on console or not.
Harder for some sure. With an Elite controller or similar you can map your jump button to a button underneath, meaning you can keep your thumb on the rightstick more frequently. That one simple thing actually makes a lot of parkour moves easier with controller.
oh i was experimenting that thing about jumping off board and hit boarders and climb back. but since it felt weird with the timing + the delay with the lag i felt it more reliable to just pistol them off, i didn't know basic atacks would pull them off stairs too...now i'll start working on it again.
The turning your mouse really quick (last tip) it's really thing since ever, specially when I was sword user. It's so op that when u do it, the enemy cant see u turning to him at all, form his PoV u will be looking the opposite way and still get hit. Just waiting for Double Gun guys come here and rage on this xD (I also double gun) PS - the jump, slash and grab ladder was actually a thing I never tried, and I did play with sword a loooooooot (if I did, I don´t remember lol). So, good tip right there! Get to practise boooooys
What if they came out with some different types of swords to spice up the pvp a little more. Like a normal sword, short sword, and long sword, all with different abilities
Excellent guide as usual! I had a sweaty reaper pj after me and some kids in my alliance. He wouldn’t give up no matter how many times I killed (and sunk)…. Which is admirable
I also would recommend not to forget about your secondary. For sword i guess pistol is best. Just hit you enemy with it before doing your combo. Or after.
I noticed people interrupting my sword combo and thought to myself, did Rare add a new repost mechanic or something while I was gone? So I came to check up on the PvP tips and well. Nope turns out Rare did nothing to the sword combat, the servers have just been getting worse. But in the end, keep up the good work, although the servers are as reliable as the average house cat hunting mice, it's neat to see new PvP tricks show up.
Remember when you brutally murdered me and my friend PaxerWaxer? I do. I have been training for a thousand years, and now we are ready to face you once more. Watch your back Blurbs.
SoT's sword be like "Press the block button and hop to play Dishonored." The test assistant guy popping up and down on that ladder was oddly hilarious to watch.
Play on a higher sensitivity instead of high DPI Do everything in the video, but with a controller I'd say a controller player's best weapon is the sword - You're going to do just about all the same techniques except you won't always have the luxury of vision.
I feel like whenever I try and sword hop through an enemy I consistently get backtrack one-blundered. Like they shoot where I was 2 seconds ago and the game is just like yeah go on then you can have that one it's close enough 😂
Can u give us tips how to play against shotgun (blunder) they insta 1 shoot me when i go to range sword range... They are just w8ing for me to hit sword and then they 1shoot me insta. Any tips? Thanks in advance. Great playstyle and content. Cheers!
hey blurbs. i have been playing this game for 3 days and i cant find a single person other than my crew in the game. is the map really big or is there no one playing. how often do you encounter people?
I just started 2 weeks ago (gaming ever btw @ 66) got about a half dozen trips in...got sunk and smoked like a blunt in west Oakland each and every time! That's ok I choose solo I even got spawn camped lol. But each new trip out I'm a lil bit better, right thumb is my worst adversary at the moment tho lol. So buckle up Matey...we got this! Once I get the hang of this controller SoT is in trouble Lol. Happy Sails Matey!
falling damage, say from shooting out of cannon up high and hitting the ground, or from jumping down from the crows nest without grabbing the ladder, also happens if you get hit with the cursed cannonball called the "limpball"
I'm playing all players on xbox with sword pistol . Oh my days its pure sightseeing on the ferry I just wish they would make controller weapon slots to they are customizable.
The only pvp tip you need is run a 3-4 man group. I love SoT but until they address how much it sucks to play solo and run into gallons player hunting I just get back into the game.
@@Drimirin or just don’t play the game. It’s not fun to be 2 hours in to just get ran up on by a 4 man and lose 2 hours worth of your life. All because no matter how good you are you need all the luck and be against bad players, to be able to 1v4. Until they address that issue, the community will stay at the same 100 people playing.
@@brennancondon3357 I hear you. I don't really even carry treasure for that reason. If I want to make some money I do merchant cargo missions, want my stuff then you can have fun delivering it. I'm not going to give my enemies the easy option of a reaper's hideout turn in. Hide on other people's ship and keg and slay them out when they go to turn in. I don't have the time to waste grinding for someone to steal my dopamine rush. I have a wife and kids and a real life, I don't sit in front of a computer streaming all day.
I've sunk about 200 galleons as a solo, wasn't that hard but that's just me. 1000 ships sunk as a solo but yet I don't blame you for struggling as a solo. Keep on sailing with your friends :)
@@nominal9036 I’ve sunk galleons as a solo as well, but you need luck, or they need to be bad. If they are not bad it’s over you just lose. If you eat a canon ball and get knocked off the ship, if you die in anyway, if they land any decent special balls, if they take down your sail, it’s just over. You will never beat a 4 man, when all 4 of the guys are just as good at the game as you. At the end of the day it does come down to just raw man power, until rare addresses this you won’t ever see the game grow.
blurbs thanks for teaching newer players to use high dpi. Now when I'm double gunning, I can stand back and shoot them without fearing their pistol/sniper aim will be insane. also real chads don't slash and grab, they charge and grab, basically you can get the charge hitbox to scrap anyone off the ladder because it lasts so long. (works 10x better on gallys than sloops cause of how ladders are angled)
@@youtubecommenter9612 it's true the sword lunge drop is a thing. Most SoT partners are reluctent to showcase it as I believe it's deemed an exploit by Rare and as such is discouraged from being shown.
@@youtubecommenter9612 actually I think there's a clip of PhuzzyBond doing it from the crow's nest - not the same situation, I know, but the theory is roughly the same.
The sword feels unusable to me, I used to use it exclusively and was very strong with it, however recently it feels like I can’t ever get any amount of a combo. I get one hit then get combo’d by my opponent who doesn’t even know there’s a block button
