Absolutely agree.... me again. The retired plumber (32 years). I did boilers...I love steam boiler. but recommend Hydronic system....Hvac is crappy... but..its fast heat... I recommend split unit myself... its the future...FYI Boiler service is $$$$ but be prepare to work on heavy snow day and holidays... Heating system always goes down on the worst days. On a Sunday and on the coldest day.
Consider using two separate split systems or look into using PTAC units like they use at hotels don't compromise the integrity of the craftsmanship of a Victorian. but if you have a center space that you can run ductwork through a Chase then I would suggest you run two separate mini splits
@@josephrostkowski674 the deal fell through for the Victorian and we are now in contract for a house that is an old Sears kit home. No ac either so similar ideas for this house. It’s a much smaller home so will be easier to configure.
Glad to hear you're happy with the system. I've been thinking about purchasing these for my home for some time now. I keep hearing good things about them so far. The only downside I have heard is that they are harder to work on for anyone servicing them.
Most split systems are modular components. That means that the computer board will tell them what’s wrong and they will just replace that part. As more of these split systems are installed, the more knowledgeable the service mechanics will get.
DONT buy Carrier split units! We had 6 units break in 4 years that needed replacement. So did all our neighbors with their Carriers. We replaced them with Mitsubishi and no more problems. The Carriers leaked the freon out.
We have spent about $30k on split air conditioning units , repair and maintenance in the last 4 years! Plus, the indoor units must be partly disassembled and cleaned by a tech, $275 a unit , once or twice yearly. Ouch. We wish we had central air.
Mary, I think that price to service (per unit) your A/C units is outrageous! The major service is to clean the filter and you should be able to do it yourself. Spray bleach on the air conditioning coils on each unit and that will help keep the drain clear. Our son has 3 Mitsubishi units and his installer and service man recommended a service once a year. His A/C units run year round. Sounds like you are paying what they call a flat rate service. I would look for someone to come in and service all units on an hourly rate service call.
