Lone Elk Park is a great place to drive through and see Elk or Bison. They do have a hiking trail in the Elk section called the White Bison Trail. At 3.2 miles it gets you close to the Elk. I took a walk on the trail in hopes of improving my wildlife photography. I also stopped off at the Wild Bird Sanctuary for a look.

That is a tough one as most trails in the area are parks with no camping. Babler State park has trails but you have to pay to camp. There are some conservation areas where you can camp, although some of those it is right next to the parking lot. The best I have found is to travel down towards Hawn State Park or on the Ozark Trail where you can camp anywhere as long as you are off the trail. I like to work out of Berryman Campground which is free to camp and the 26 mile loop has stops at 8 to 9 mile intervals where you can camp.
