Mr. Brett, Kevin Costner, like many of us grew up in a different world that is gone. Very different from today’s world. Men were men and women were women if you catch my breeze…
@@BrettVaughnB100 - I'm not sure either Mr Brett ,, for now maybe all we can do is continue to live how we always have , even in this new world , hopefully our lives will rub off a bit on the younger ones .. It truly was a Good Day !! See ya in the next one sir .
My dad was glued to the nostalgia channel as he slipped into Alzheimer’s. He watched all the old westerns, possibly to relive his childhood. God took him out of his suffering 1/16/23. Your new mule sounds promising!
😆😆 Oh man! I am so glad it wasn't just me. I also grew up riding a Welsh pony, only allowed to ride bareback, and yes.. a more stubborn cantankerous horse has never lived. I think that horse trained me more than just about anything else could have. What a time. 😊😌
Brett, you and I grew up in similar ways. I had a poco bueno gelding too. Best horse I’ve ever had. I’d saddle up and put a can of spaghettios in my saddle bags and ride all day. I’d find a place to build a fire and cook those spaghettios. I was probably 10 years old. I’m 57 now and that’s all I still want to do. Still live on the family ranch that my great grandfather founded in 29. Couple of years and my grandkids will learn the “ways” too. Thanks for your videos.
One of my friends in Cali married into the family that provided livestock for Gunsmoke. Her sister was in a few of the episodes. She told us stories of working with Amanda Blake. Amanda's stunt double and her husband hung out in the same saloon's. It was fun living in the same town with all of the studio people.
We had ponies when we were young, mean ponies that rubbed you off on trees lol. We got back on and kept going. I didn't have a saddle till I was 14. Still have it, don't use it just admire. The unbroke horses my dad got for us taught us how to hang on and keep going. My dad was an old cowboy did some bronc riding and moving cattle in Montana way back. I still ride as mush as possible. I remember my childhood adventures that were many. Now I ride a broke horse and enjoy the scenery in the forest just the same as when I was a child.
Nice video today . This one was different. The music was great and the view of the girls ears while you were riding was awesome. Thanks Brett. I'm so pleased I hit your video again. For me to be very honest, your videos are so inline with my life in your stories and remembering events that are happy . Which at times are difficult for me to remember. As to feeding her as you get to your destination is a wise choice . I raise mini and micro pigs. Adult size is about 12 inches tall. I feed each pen from out of the back of a suv. Not that I'm lazy. But if and when the escape, the sound of the engine makes them come running. It's an awesome sight to see 50 plus little guys and gals running and squeeling to get back in their pens to get fed. Brother we are to old to chase anything but our dreams. Thanks again . Robby
Enjoyed the talk and the ride at the end ! You mentioned Welsh ponies . . . . When I was a kid , the TV cartoon show , " The Flintstones " had a contest to name Fred and Wilmas baby and the prize was a Welsh pony . Well, my neighbor buddies won that contest ! Their mothers name was Pebbles . I'm here to tell ya , that was meanest oneryest critter on four hooves that I've ever seen ! Every kid in the neighborhood had a bite or kick mark and most both ! We had rodeos on that critter and he liked to have done us all in ! LOL. All the parents complained , so they got rid of him. Some unsuspecting guy on a nearby farm hauled that bone breaker off and we were all better for it ! Us boys were still sad to see him go .
I havent been around horses since I was a kid, but its nice to see the connection made here. I have a cat and shes got a personality that reminds me of how horses are. Been awhile since I have watched a video from this channel, was needed today..
I think the (breakfast) feed bag at the trailer is the greatest thing ever for a young horse or mule. It makes them fall in love with the trailer, going out on the trails and being with you. Equines, are 'foodies', they will do anything for a hay pellet, apple, carrot, etc. They have great memories and are only a little less intelligent than elephants. It's fun for them to be given good treats for good behaviors.
I’m really liking the way that I see her traveling out .. and she seems very aware of her surroundings .. YRS SIR !! Onward and Upward is the Watchword !!
Exactly why I view your content Brett! It's the old west feel/adventure. I'd be surprised if there is a western I haven't seen.. The Good the Bad and the Ugly.. Enjoy them all. Especially the Clint Walker stuff. Thanks for scratching that itch!
@BrettVaughnB100 when I was a kid there were no vacations, dinners, ball games. What there was was fence fixing, wood cutting, and chores to help dad with. But in Junior High I got the horse bug and that is one thing my Dad and I connected on. He had worked with horses. He'd plowed them, ridden them, and roped with them. That's how he and I connected. I got a mare with fold. When the colt was born we broke that colt to lead at 3 days old. By 1 year he would stand and be led around with a saddle and with long reins was learning to neck rein. By 2 I was riding him. Before he was weined I won a blue ribbon and a trophy for the best weinling fold. I rode that horse to date my girl and later we made our first garden with him. But my dad was getting older and my mom was afraid the horse would kick him when he was throwing out hay. Had to sell him. Horse buyer came by. I caught the horse with a rope, made a halter of it and rode him to the truck with a stock rack. I slapped him on the rump and he loaded into the truck. But as he pulled onto the highway and I watched him go that horse turned around with the wildest expression and watched me clear out of sight. Felt like I'd sold out my best friend and I guess I had. I've never owned another. Hurts to think about it. But I do love horses.
@@BrettVaughnB100 Oh I like to hear you tell the stories, I was talking about what Bonnie might have been thinking the way she was pestering you. Looking forward to your next video.
My favorite Gunsmoke episode was a 2 parter with Strother Martin as Ben Snow and Festus. Island in the desert. Of all the television shows and movies ive seen through the years Festus was my most favorite character🐴🇺🇸 of all. Thanks for sharing your Bonnie with us.🎉😊
Here are some of mine ,, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sj_IMTLWJtc.htmlsi=4aMbKypI0IjHsMZk ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sj_IMTLWJtc.htmlsi=4aMbKypI0IjHsMZk ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tu8iXiOtVng.html ansi=eEkoSCSl2M31k7ce and a lot more thanks
Appreciate the ride enjoyed it, u keep inspiring folks to get out and venture how ever possible truck bike mule however possible life is too short I remember all those shows as well u nailed it be safe .
Those bugs were bugging her big, them buggers.. But it looks like she's even more forward with spurs if you had them out? (Couldn't see for sure) She looks anyway more forward than Brenda. I think she is just what you need, and she needs you. That much is the true 👍 Going places, you both will! 😎
Yep, Thank you again, Got me hankering to ride an work a mule. My grandfather showed me scars on his hands, said it was from working mules. He would smile when he looked at his hands. He loved he's mules! Like yourself I teamed roped and road a lot of horses. It's been years now I'm 51 I think I'm ready to get on a mules. Upward and onwards!
That's what I had when I was a child. I had a Welsh pony and she was ornery. I got my first scar on my right hand from riding her in the backyard when I was about 4 years old and she went under a very low branch and it caught my ring finger on my right hand and I every time I look at the scar I think of her and it's been 55 years
I have a CD of the theme songs for to TV westerns and Gun Smoke’s is my favorite. I remember sitting on the floor watching each episode with my Dad & older brother on the couch! There is a book that chronicles each of the episodes over the 20 year run!
I like the way she bids for your attention I think she loves you. She was standing there an just every few seconds she would nip at your hat like saying you talking to me why don't you pet me while you blabbing away. She a keeper I think
When you were setting by your trailer i noticed how deep that sand was, i thought i hope he doesnt get stuck turning around! Been there done that. Thanks brett.
I used to have a three-year-old buckskin horse. He was a good horse easygoing and not mean at all. When I got him, my wife was pregnant and couldn't ride anyway, but I bought a 13-year-old mare, a Paint horse, thinking that after the baby was born, she could ride. I figured a 13-year-old horse would be easygoing, perfect for my wife. But that was the meanest damn demon I've ever met in my life. That horse hurt me so bad, I swore I’d never get on anything that didn’t have a key.
You are absolutely right all my horses including horses that come for training go out at night and come in to get fed in the morning and even horses that were hard to catch it didn't take long for them to be waiting at the gate to come in. You can go to the gate and call them anytime now, and they come running to be caught.
I think that’s why people around our age of 60-ish have adventurous souls when we get restless sitting home. I think for the most part all of us were raised in a time when adventure was exciting. Much better than sitting on your butt watching a computer screen.😂😂
I'm born and raised in Brawley California always been around livestock in hot 120 degrees summers I'm overseeing 13 head of horses right now and some of the older ones get those sores right where a shoe boil would be what I've been doing is taking Ivermectin paste and just swiping it on the bad spots it's an insecticide so it will kill the gnats and the things bothering them and it also will cure the wound
I remember watching westerns with my dad. My wife and kids don't care for them now days. They like to get the remote control out of my control. Have a great day Brett. 🇺🇲🔪🌲🔥
Boy, you watch her ears when you are riding her and see what she is thinking. She is not scared either, just very observant and aware. She is thinking. Great video
Your right .. and she is fun to ride .. I'm trying to get another video together right now ,, rode her right through a housing community .. felt like I was on a time bomb lol Thanks
I wonder Brett while sitting there talking she has gear on, getting little antsy miss Bonnie wants to get out enjoy walk “onward and upward” saying. She looks like getting better? You should know.-Kid Yuma
Brett, make your own spray, its alot cheaper. 1/4 permetherin,1/4 skin so soft lotion, 1/4 dawn dish soap,1/4 water. If you dont want permethrin use off bug spray or deet. Hope this helps!
That's so crazy because my two brothers and I rode all the time with our dad !! Also bareback. Taught you good balance. And my first barrel horse was Poco Buena bred. A great all around horse!! ☺️👍
My sister & I did same. People dropped dogs close to us bcuz we kept them or found homes. Mother yelled - TAKE THE DOGS. LMAO. Daddy always stood to out draw Matt Dillon.
Hey Brett! Cool video of your past! Thanks for sharing! You ever thought about going out to the Gila NF back in Beaverhead or anywhere west of Winston, NM? It's an amazing part of the Gila that's less traveled. Open ranges for miles and miles. Would love to see you in that part of our beautiful state!
I knew exactly what you were talking about when you said Welsh pony. Bonnie Parker (yep) her 1st cousin Red Parker hired me @ 15 years old to break 3 Welsh Ponies. Each was meaner than the previous. The last one broke more’n my pride…..LOL Guess that motivated me to go Airborne In Army 😂NO SLACK
I see you are riding a new saddle. Would be interested in a little more info on it and how you like it. Also interested in how that bit you got from your dad is working out.
I don’t profess to be a horse person! But I did see a lady that uses coconut oil on her horses to keep the bugs off. Especially under the belly and chest area. I just thought I would pass this on as I was watching your episode. i should have been a cowboy!
Hey Man ,Have you heard anything about the new Western movie, with a all Black cast ? I think it is called "RIDE MFer RIDE " . Just joking ! 😅 I too grew up on the Ranch and riding was just something that was done. For years I thought everyone owned cows.😅
Well sir it’s no joke to me as a black older woman of 73 years of age. I guess this You Tube video isn’t for me. I love watching Mr.Brett’s videos. Good content and beautiful scenery 😢
Maybe you should chill out, if you are that thin skinned, that this off color joke that has been around for decades bothers you, I just don't know what to say. Have a Great Day 😊@@bettyhudson979
It is one of my favorites .. never seen an appy before that could spin like that ... why your just a damm farm boy lol .. I have the movie poster on my wall .. Thanks
You might want to try what the off-roaders do is deflate your tires. I would not suggest defraying all the tires on the truck but maybe just the driving tires in the rear. What this does is makes a round tire not wide but flat so it acts more like a track than it does a tire. This is just a suggestion you may also want to try talking to some of the off-roaders maybe there's a off-roading rental store around you and ask them what tire pressures they use in that kind of sand. But the second thing you would need is a air compressor that runs off of your cigarette lighter so you can re-inflate your tires they have fancy systems that I believed you fight all the tires at once but I know for a fact they can inflate all of the tires at once.
I love your videos! Yes, freedom! I want to ask though, I know nothing about Miles but I know with horses, feeding them going for a long ride or strenuous exercise can cause colic. Is that not a worry for you & feeding your mules right before riding?
