I find it hilarious that seconds after you say 'I don't think anything important is going to be on that tape' it immediately reveals the Ice King's whole backstory. Show drops biggest unexpected lore bomb in tv history.

It’s weirdly hilarious that their mic’s were muted while watching a set with an episode called “No One Can Hear You”. It sucks that it happened, but that’s so ironic yet so perfect.

The penguins have different names. Gunter, Gunthalina, Gunther, Gunder, Goonder, Goonthy, Gonter to name a few

The beginning of why Ice King is one of the best characters in this show.

Finally you guys are seeing the episode that turned Ice King from a joke to a tragedy.

It's not a spoiler but he says "Betty my princess maybe you could love me again" I think that to some correlation with and or the reason why he captures princesses also the crown made him go crazy but it also kept him alive.

Imagine if their mics were still muted when reacting to Episode 20, would’ve been so unfortunate lol

The big one. This single episode is what began the process of making Ice King one of my favorite characters.

Ice King has to be one of the most tragic characters in any cartoon. The more we learn about his backstory the more interesting it becomes. The last tape was always a huge bombshell, it honestly changed the course of the show. I can’t wait for them to reach the later episodes where his connections with certain characters are explored, it’s really some of the best the show has to offer.

everyone misses the whole "Scandinavia" thing. as in, he got the crown from somewhere around Sweden and Norway. Scandinavia doesn't exist in Ooo

Ice king had a some sad moments, especially when it shows just how lonely he is. But this episode made me genuinely feel bad for him.

Prepare yourselves because from this point onwards the plot begins to get clearer

They werent married by the way, Betty was his fiancée... they were going to get married but alas... the crown happened (and if it didn't, the Mushroom War would have) Love how this episode completely changes how you see the Ice King looking back and going forward, not just for the audience but the characters too (since you guys are in like s5 onward, i can point out Finn first refers to IK as Simon in Beyond This Earthly Realm). Think about the tapes from Finn's perspective, he just saw a member of his own race go insane; this crazy old man that's been bothering him used to be just like him; he's now one of the only other humans he knows exists... and he's too far gone to even know who he used to be.

H-Man: Makes me feel sorry for the guy underneath the crown. Me: You don't even know the half of it.

"Betty, my princess..."

And thus begins the journey to understand Ice King's tragic history. Genuinely the best part of all of Adventure Time IMO.

This is a turning point in the series imo. After this, it seemed to me like the writers had more of an idea where they wanted to take things, and more than that, that they had fully realized the land of OOO's background. ...Not to mention totally recontextualizing the Ice King, from an unredeemable if pathetic creep to a tragically demented old man. It’s a bit early but Merry Christmas & here is a present 🎁 of some surprising information about our favorite character the Ice King aka Simon Petrikov - The title design & outline of the title references to A Charlie Brown Christmas - What happens to Ice King is similar to Gollum from the Lord of the Rings franchise while also having some also from Mr.Freeze from Batman - When Finn says "What does it mean?" Is a reference to Jack Skellington from the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas - Notice when Ice King enters the tree there is a poster which seem to be a man wearing a badge similar the ones in the Star Trek series

We may not be able to watch episodes 15-18 but this one is really where the Ice King becomes one of my favorites.

Fun fact: Ice King's origin story is inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's stories were a scholar finding a mystical item that slowly drives them insane is a recurring theme.

Fun fact alouette is a children's song meant to teach different body parts but the actual content is about a big bird romanticizing about how delicious each part of a little bird is and saying that he will pluck every feather from every part of the bird....

Thank god this episode wasn't muted.. That would've ruined a real important moment for the series reaction. The last 3 were nice, but not super important to anything, other than introducing banana man and his space ship.

ive been excited to see you guys see these eps since you began!! yeah man, what a lore drop in the middle of whats otherwise a silly christmas special. and suddenly ice kings goofiness feels a lot more sad and bittersweet. it really elevates him above being a stock fairytale villain

This is IT. This isn't the BIGGEST episode in terms of things that will COMPLETELY recontextualize everything about Ice King... but this is the start of it. This is the part where he went from being a comedic villain to a tragic figure. MORE OF IT IS COMING. I WISH TO FEAST UPON YOUR HORROR AS YOU SEE IT. So as you might guess its less that Ice King is actually an incel but, because of the curse destroying his mind, he doesn't remember anything. He CAN'T remember who he was or why he wants things anymore; he's just lonely and stripped of all impulse control and restraint. So he doesn't understand that his obsession with princesses is him badly missing a fiance he used to call his princess; he doesn't remember her. He doesn't remember ANYTHING, not that he used to be human or how he wound up this way or his own name. There's a REASON people often compare the curse of the ice crown to dementia. You'll see why as you go on.

I feel like I’ve been waiting for this for an eternity and now the wait is over 😭

On the 1 hand I'm sad I won't get to see ur reactions to s3ep15-18, as there were quite a few interesting and important episodes among them. On the other, I'm very happy to see ur reactions to a highlight of this season that is ep19-20. The way it recontextualises our view of Ice King and confirms so many of our suspicions abt Adventure Time's world is just delightful. It really elevated Ice King as a character in my eyes and made me feel for the guy. Not to mention all the mysteries this sets up. Truly an amazing pare of episodes.

Actually Santa Claus was one of the previous owners of the Ice Crown, so the Ice King is actually Santa Claus due to the fact that the crown traps the personality of its owners inside of it.

Get ready for the beginning of the Adventure Time Lore. Pay attention to the next following episodes after this point. Also his name is Simon. Get used to calling him Simon.

This is when you start to really love Ice King. His layers and past flesh him out as a deep and important character, and along with Finn and Jake, gained some empathy for this old man. His behavior as Ice King is still problematic, but he has come so far from just “finn” main villain as he was first shown as. He is an integral part of this show.

This is the episode everyone who watches AT reactions wants to see.
