2:18:12 The creator of the show made some artwork after this that implied that Martin got some sort of concussion after he blew up the robot. He forgot about Finn, Minerva, and everything that helped him grow. We see hints that he doesn't remember alot that happened, when Finn asked him and he tried to make up a story, he remembered the robot and that he really did want to come back for his son.
The fact that of all the creatures Martin mentions attacking them in The Visitor that didn't happen the tiger of all things turns out to be true in a muddled sense is wild. Didn't reach them on the raft, but a tiger was part of the attack on the house that lead to trying to hide on the ocean
To a lesser extent Fern's grass half's "father" has a similar design to Martin, and his arm does a similar mace mode to Finn's psychic projection arm when he punched PB disguised as Martin (happened a few other times too with the grass arm I think, but that's the most apt parallel)
I think the craziest part of this 8 part special, is it technically is connected to the last one "Stakes". Remember the ship of humans that Marceline saved from the vampires? How much you wanna bet that island of humans are at least partially descended from those humans. Especially is you consider his mom and others still wear the animal hats, despite them not being a necessity like they were for the humans in the past.
Yeah and they wore those hats so vampires couldn’t suck there blood, getting there teeth stuck in the animal stuff. Also in Minerva’s song where it showed the founders, it showed the leader of those humans, the guy with the glasses that wanted everyone so sing songs, in there, although a lot more angelic looking.
2:18:16 In terms of what happened to Finn’s dad, one of the crew arts showed Martin being rescued by sailors from Ooo with him bleeding from the head, which sort of lead to him getting Dementia. That’s why he has no memories of Finn and goes back to being a criminal which sucks for both Finn and his wife.
Even when he does remember, he knows he can never go back. Even if he can convince authorities that he wasn’t trying to leave, Minerva will never forgive him for losing their son.
That's not true. It's never suggested he has dementia, and the show itself proves that he DID remember Finn. In a Season 6 episode, he has a flashback to the incident with the Guardian and says that he always meant to come back, but just kinda didn't. The whole dementia thing is pure headcanon.
Couls be cool but they started talking random things on the freaking song xddd is one of my favorite song moment in the whole series, at this pace they are going to butcher even the final song no joke, i can see they doing it lol

@@24trn27 i watched this within an hour of it coming out and it didn't have timestamps then 😭 feel like its slightly better to have the episode names though hahaha
A common theory about what happened with Martin was that the Guardian explosion caused brain damage, and/or he drowned and the oxygen loss caused brain damage. So now he is out wandering the universe, subconsciously, searching for Fin but doesn't consciously know that.
2:17:35 remember when he said "i always said id come back for you but i... didnt.. thats... true.." 😭😭💔💔 2:18:05 cuz for her she always thought Martin played and lied to her, left her and took Finn 😭💔 2:22:14 bro imagine finding your son you thought u lost forever 16 years ago 😭
"Just watch over me until I can find a way out of this labyrinth in my brain and regain my sanity" -- Simon Petrikov, Holly Jolly Secrets Part II. I love when they take what was almost certainly just a throwaway line that didn't mean anything at the time and pull at that bit of thread to spin it out into a whole cool other thing like it was planned all along (also, Simon totally did punch Marcy's ex Ash as he says he wished he could, in the episode Betty when the crown's curse is temporarily suppressed by the anti magic Ash comes up and insults him and Simon punches him and steals his flying carpet)
1:33:50 Aaw man, none of you guys picked up on Jake saying that that swan-thing he knocked into the hole was "where the pups came from" (aka where he made love to Lady dfxcgvh)
Something that I do think about is that Simon and Martin losing their memories are both so upsetting, and I am glad that they were done differently. With Simon we are outright shown that he slowly started to lose his memories without a choice, to the point where not only part of him is still there but he misses being able to have them 24/7. The people who learned about how he used to be realized why he is the way he is and treat him differently as such. When we see why Martin lost his memories it was all at once. He remembers the smallest bits and pieces of his old life. Its hard to feel sorry for him since we didn't know and by the time we do, we have to grapple with the fact that he was actually a good person who grew at some point but now there really is no turning back for him. Now all of the people who do know that he isn't just a bad person all around and chose to hurt and abandon Minerva and Finn can never say that to him Simon is still there, Martin left because there was no way of going back to who he used to be or getting back any of the bridges that he already burned.
@@AbsouluteZero88 he mentions the tiger the raft that he was going to go back for them but never did and said that was his honest truth, and that when you burn bridges the only way is forward. All he did was go back to his con man ways after losing that life he had with his wife and son
@@jaydenvaughn1595 That's cool if we didn't have the context of his head injury... What he said is right he meant to comeback but never did and was the honest truth which is seen differently through his backstory... he does mention the tiger because it was the most dangerous thing he was running from however oddly he doesn't mention minerva who changed his life I wonder why
It was so difficult being a fan back when it was still airing because cartoon network had no concept of normal seasonal releases, they would just air new episodes randomly and never onthe same day betwen different seasons. They also stopped advertising new episodes. Back then it was my background channel and the first advertisement i saw for this season was llime 3 episodes in 10 minutes before the episode aired on a random sunday evening
Which is weird because this really only became an issue in the 2010s because cartoon network had a consistent schedule in the Early 2000s I remember every weekend had a new episode of Ben 10 . Then they f up the schedule for Ben 10 omniverse which by no coincidence is a 2010s show.
The james baxter epasode are about a famous animater that the showrunners of adventure time looked up to this episode was about about how he was burnt out from the animation industry and wanted to quit people were not happy about it and they wanted to show that they supported him in his decision
That scene with Cake and the flapjacks was a nod to Cake’s voice actress who played Bubbie in “The Marvelous misadventures of Flapjack” which is where a lot of the crew of adventure time, including its creator Pendleton Ward, got their careers started.
You kinda nailed it at the end about Martin. Along with whatever kind of head trauma he received he also had every right to believe he had lost everything. As far as he was concerned his baby died and a giant robot stood between him and his wife. So he abandoned his life and stopped caring about everything.
Not everyone is gonna like this new system, but honestly I'd prefer you guys space out the shows that aren't doing so well comparatively instead of just dropping them completely, so I don't mind this new system. 💜
It’s sad that, although Finn and his mom were able to find each other again, his dad literally no longer exists in the universe so there’s no way for them to have ever been a family again
Well he exists… AS the beginning and the end and all things at once i think? P sure he became a cosmic entity, theres an implication towards something in fionna and cake but if you havent seen that i wont spoil it
@@zetaalpha5110 He's not "the beginning and the end of all things at once". He's just living in a new mode of existence, which isn't necessarily better or worse than the one he was previously in. He basically just chose to abandon life and start again with a clean slate.
I think how Charlie's (Jake's kid in card wars) powers work is the the bigger she gets the less dense she becomes so she can cover massive distance and basically be the weight of air. i don't know if she's able to get smaller and become more dense but that's how it was explained to me :)
The saddest part about this is that no one will know how martin abandoned finn in the ocean except for martin but that doesn't matter anyway he got brain damage and forgot all what happened
I like how the Preboot and Reboot episodes allude to Susan's first and second appearance. It shows Beautopia, the place where Susan and the hoomans live after Finn and Jaked help her and their people reclaim the land from the lubglubs, which also shows why Island of humans reside at don't want people to leave because the first time it happened they never returned and you can see the skull of the founder's young girl who wears a bunny hat that befriended marceline in the stakes miniseries in that episode, and the rest of the humans ended up evolving to those fish people after the 900 something years of being stuck down there. and in the reboot episode it shows the trees Uncle Gumball cut down mentioned in Susan's first appearance, which is right where that human bunker is.
I think im stuck in a sorta stupid addiction wish I could help with the patreon but I will watch and rewatch everything you put out of at least what i like which is most of your stuff
There's a theory that after fighting the Guardian, Martin suffered brain damage that reverted him back to his old ways. Not sure if I completely agree with that theory, I think the writers of Adventure Time often use Martin to represent the fact that sometimes there's no changing people and it's okay to distance yourself from them for your own sake.
Finn once asked Martin where he came from, Martin replied: "Okay, uh, long story short-you were born on a... boat... I guess. Like a... banana boat. In the middle of the ocean. So... all kinds of stuff tried to eat you- whales and fish... squids... uh, there was a tiger... and... seaweeds. The sea's weeds. Your mom was... okay? I don't know. Talking about it stresses me out ...maybe later. So one day, I got called on a dangerous mission- no, like a dangerous life choice, two roads diverging in the night and all that. And I couldn't bring you along. I always planned to come back for you, but I didn't. That's... true."
On the title card of one of the episodes, I forgot which, a pirate picked up Martin after he fought the guardian. His head is oozing an alarming amount of blood, and one of the pirates is holding up fingers and asking him to count then while a dazed Martin stares back, insinuating serious brain damage.
@@Lambent_Omega It's an unused alternate title card for Min and Marty, final episode uses a shot of the Guardian looking at one of the islands as its card. Even used ones aren't necessarily "canon", often just evocative cool art, but it does give a plausible reason for at least some of Martin's post separation personality, to what extent who knows
Omg i love Broke hiw crown is such a cool episode, PB and Marcy together is always a yes. And with Simon and the Ice king too its just 🙌🙌🙌 you can tell it meant a lot for Marceline.
2:17:30 this actually lines up with what he told Finn later about being forced on a journey and intending to come back… which even he was surprised by either in that he was being honest or he was surprised by his own intention
I think they did, maybe... didn't their recent channel update video say something about switching to big season videos as opposed to batches of episode videos?
Im pretty sure its because once you've watched the individual episodes most people don't watch the binge and so it gets less views and doesn't preform as well in the RU-vid algorithm.
That’s not why, our binge videos have become some of our highest viewed videos. The reason is because adventure time performs under the channels average so it hurts the channel Its easier to take one hit every few weeks to having to take a hit every single week
Martin basically got brain damage after his fight with the colossus. That paired with the trauma and ptsd...basically led to any reminder of his past causing deep psychological pain. So he ran away and basically tried to forget it all. And without Finn and Minerva as the positive influences in his life, he regressed and fell back on his scoundrel tendencies. And as a result he became the selfish piece of shit that Finn met at space jail.
Yes, a pancake and a flapjack are considered the same thing. But across the pond, though, the flapjack is typically baked on a tray. “A flapjack is much like a Rice Krispie Treat in the fact that it is a bar,” said Kim Mitchell, local chef.
I love how everything has just come together so far and we're just wrapping everything up. All story from here on out. 30:48: Ayye! Bun Bun! 32:34: Finn's come a long way. 44:27: Oh God. It's Pim! 55:55: Oh. This episode. 54:47: Yes! Screw Hazbin Susan. We love AT Susan. 1:01:10: YES! 1:06:07: Oh! Here we go! 1:17:50: And so Fern was born 1:50:04: Another amazing arc! 1:59:02: BMO was so PISSED here! 😂 2:06:18: BUFFMO! 2:21:53: Where da bones?
I know this was recorded forever ago and you probably already figured this out, but Evergreen wouldn't be in the crown because he never wore it. Evergreen was supposed to be the first wearer, but the first person to be powered by the crown in Gunther the dinosaur because Evergreen was in danger and needed his help.
I don't know if someone already commented that, but some promo art for future episodes shows some sailors doing some tests sailors do to check on people, practically confirming that Martin got brain damage, explaining why on the episode he built a ship he felr stressed trying to remember the past
I like to think Martin was never really that good a guy and was always prone to cheaping out, just becoming a dad made him really try to be better, but still prone to burning bridges. After the guardian blew up and fearing the weight of his actions (and the supposed loss of his kid) lead him to spiral and become the serial bridge burning borderline sociopath he is today. He was so afraid to go back to all the damage he caused that the only thing he can do is just move forward
So Marty’s whole deal is pretty much that he was really good at being a con-man, which is why he did it for a living. When he met Minerva, he kinda decided hed try and turn his life around, be a good dad for Finn, it was something he truly wanted. Eventually though his past caught up with him and it put Finn in danger. We dont know exactly what his life was like between his sacrifice and him winding up in the citadel, but it obviously was a bit of a downward spiral. Hes a man who at one point wanted to be a good person, but just messed up so many times that he gave up. “You burn enough bridges the only way to move is forward.” I think him taking the Catalyst Comet up on its offer was because he saw it as a second chance at existence, and Finn letting him do it was him accepting who his dad really was, just a sad guy who could never quite get it right.
It's already been repeated by many others but Martin turned back to being an utter piece of waste because he got brain damage after protecting baby Finn from the guardian. Minerva helped in rehabilitating him from his con ways but after the incident, he forgot everything and just regressed into who he was before
This is just a headcanon and it's never implied by the show or material around it. The episode "The Visitor" from Season 6 show that Marin did remember various things from his past (including the whole incident with the Guardian), but just doesn't like thinking about them.
What happened with Martin is that, he just couldnt cope with what happened, he finally had a good life, a wife and a son, and he lost it all in one night because of his past. Even if he was able to find Finn there was no way for him to go back to Founder's Island, so he just double down on what he knew, being a conman and a scamer, and he started to burn all the bridges he coud because he didnt wanted to face the past. The accident did damaged his brain, but he was concient enough to make all those dessisions.
Yup!! Lot of people want to attribute Martin’s present behavior with his head injury, and while it does play a part, that’s not the REASON Martin is an asshole now. Martin has ALWAYS been sleazy. With Minerva and Finn he managed to calm down and live a normal life, but when he lost everything, he just couldn’t cope and went back to his old ways. He assumed Finn was dead and that Minerva was unreachable, so he just built a wall around himself and tried to distance himself from his past. It’s true that he seems to have issues remembering details, but he remembers enough to know what happened. But he still chooses to not have anything to do with Finn. That’s not amnesia, that’s him actively making a choice, and he always chooses himself over his son.
So I have a game you could look at for adventure time but it is a phone game. It's called "Bloons Adventure time TD" The TD stands for tower defense and it's pretty fun. You get to pop balloons and collect the different characters. You also level them up to unlock powers in each character and get items you equip to increase stats and/or add special effects. I was reminded of it because in the game, mini manticore throws boomerangs and has a flamethrower like in this episode.
dunno if y'all will ever see this but one of the theories I've heard was that when he had hit his head after briefly disabling the guardian it wonked him up in a fashion, possible messing with most of his memories from his time on the island. Minerva made something of a honest/better man out of him, and at some point he actually tells the story of saving Finn on the raft but it's all off and not exact, it's entirely possible that the head injury messed with most of his memories prior to the guardian and altered his recollection of said incident. Without the maturing of his moral compass that was Minerva (presumable maturing, don't remember seeing instances of him doing scammy stuff once he actually starts dating her), it's possible that he reverted to his selfish old ways. Which if this theory is true, is kinda sad for him, we saw in the flashback that he loved her and baby Finn, but can't really recall what Finn actually means to him. Don't get me wrong he still sucks, but in an not entirely in his own fault sort of way, like a waaaaaaaay suckier ice king. Brain damage
32:35 I know we’re all a bit sad that he messed up the relationship but I think this payoff is better than anything we could have gotten from if Finn and phoebe got back together. Instead of them getting back together and being happily ever after, it gives us this which is realistic and very healthy even if bittersweet
Guys Martin got memory lost, everything that changed him into a better person into a dad who was willing to sacrifice himself for his son, all of that was lost after that fight with the guardian. So yeah, pretty tragic I'd say, he'd be happier if he didn't have memory lost
knowing now who james baxter is, his ep this season definitely hits a bit more lol maybe this ep is similar to his life experience? i do love the message of find what you love and what makes you happy
I really do believe that Finns dad just got straight up brain damage from taking out the guardians eye. I think he drifted out to sea until someone found him with no memory of his family and he just scoundreled across the planet until he left it and became a space criminal and landed himself in the citadel
