The end of "Farewell My Little Viking Part 2" where Artie tells Pete that he has to leave. This really bummed me out as a kid and is still pretty touching even today.
Mannnn I was about 6 years old when this episode came out. I was bawling my eyes out, my Dad picked me up and said "whats wrong?"...I said "Artie is gone forever Dad" Later that year, my Dad dressed up as Artie for Halloween....I was beyond stoked
@@princessmarlena1359 Kinda sucks doesn't it? On one hand its like a badge of honor to live through all of this nonsense and still be able to rise above it, on the other its like damn let us have some normalcy. Btw, nice Beretta.
@@rickyray2794 aww, thank you! I’m proud of my Beretta. And yes, I agree. We’ll never have decades such as the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s. They had their ups and downs, but the ‘00s, ‘10s, and 2020s are just down, down, down.
Watching this again, I like that Artie points out that it's not just that Pete is growing up and needs to learn how to fight his own battles; It's also the more important point that there are other kids out there who don't have Pete's strength and need someone like Artie to help them gain it. Artie's done his job with Pete and done it well, and now he needs to move on and bring those lessons of strength and confidence to someone else in much more desperate need of it. It's similar to the ending of 'Toy Story 3,' with the toys realizing their work with Andy is complete and now there's another child (Bonnie) who needs them.
@@creekandseminole 34 here revisiting this show and. I didn't understand things as a kid like i do now. Its so surreal, and very sad. KNowing not only did pete grow and learn and had it inside of him. But Artie grew as a person too. and remembeing the past eps with pete and artie its sad artie not in any more eps ;(.
I love The Adventures of Pete and Pete. This was a truly bittersweet, yet plausible send off for Artie. He left, but for all the right reasons and on a good note. I had a real life friend such as him, similar personality. He moved away by middle school, but I, my fraternal twin brother, and all the other kids of the neighborhood will never forget him. He wasn’t a grown man, just a big, strange, awesome kid. He was our hero.
As a kid, I thought Artie just left because Pete had outgrown him and needed to learn how to fight his own battles. Now, however, as an adult, I realize there's more to it than that, as I can better understand what Artie explained to Pete: he was saying that there are other kids out there who need someone like Artie to help them learn courage and confidence and leadership, the way he taught those lessons to Pete. Heroes can't spend all their time with one person when there are so many others who need them. In my current job as a teacher's assistant for special needs children, I kind of do the same, and sometimes refer to some of my students as "My little Vikings."
Good/Great Teachers are real life heroes! Even at 36 years old I still remember several Teachers who made learning fun and more importantly interesting for us as children and teenagers. Keep fighting the Good Fight.
I never realized as a kid that Artie left halfway through the run of the show. For the longest time I thought this episode was towards the end. That's how much of an impact Artie had on me when I was young. The randomness of the episodes really makes you feel like he's been there the whole time.
I too feel your sentiments. I highly recommend buying the DVDs and giving them a 2nd watch. It will give you a whole new appreciation, as an adult. It was truly as brilliant show.
Gone, but not forgotten. And although he may be physically gone, he and those like him that we love and care about will never be gone from our hearts and minds.
Even though I was too young to cognitively follow most of the events in The Adventures of Pete & Pete when it originally aired, I always had a hunch that this show was something special. Artie had been one of my favorite characters, and it was sad to see him go, but he's one of those who transcended their medium. Like Hobbes to Calvin, Artie is out there somewhere getting into all sorts of new adventures with kids in their time of need. And I'm sure he's doing just fine.
yes, i wonder why so many people think he is a creep :-( Why do you assume that someone can be a pervert just because he likes to spend time in the company of children, so, well yeah good to have such people in the eye just in case, but does not mean that someone has to be a perv, someone can just do not want to have their own children because he knows that he knows It does not suit to be a parent but could be good teacher, instructor or mentour , and Artie from this series meets many symptoms of a person from the spectrum of autism, I have Asperger myself, although according to the new medical nomenclature, it is called high functioning autism, but Elon also has it so I am in good, company :-) Artie from this series placed somewhere in the middle of the spectrum of autism This series was also broadcasting in my country Poland, beloved 1990s these years of my youth :-)
The symbolism of Artie leaving the show meant that our childhood was over and it was time to grow up and move on. Life won't let you stay a little kid forever but the memories will always be good. Great show!!
This was way more emotional than josh is done from drake and josh my god im a 2000s kid and ive seen pete and pete before but for all the 90s and 2000s kids we were all his little vikings at one point in our childhood lives
I remember some of The Adventures of Pete and Pete. I plan to eventually obtain all the seasons on VHS or DVD, doesn't matter which format. I recently bought a combo player that plays VHS & DVD.
Always loved and will always love Pete and Pete. I 30 years old and rememebr this a young teenager. So sad seeing Artie leave. The early 90's such a good time. This, Eerie Indiana, early X-files. /wipes away a tear. I agree with Pete's Dad "I am going to miss that mutant" :)
and beat up the atlantic ocean. gotta love this shit. i used to do that to the atlantic myself in the 90s off the coast off new jersey, wildwood beach, featherweight division. lets just say i won the belt.

@@bubbaXzone oh yeah! I loved TAOPAP, and Salute Your Shorts (my brother has a Blu Ray bootleg copy of all episodes). But I hated Hey Dude, it was like those boring Saturday afternoon sitcoms.
I don't remember watching Pete and Pete all that much, but I always loved seeing Artie. I couldn't exactly follow the episodes as well as I should have, I was a lil whipper snapper... but I remember this episode, haunted by it. I can't forget the day Artie left. The day that Artie had to grow up, wear a business suit, get a job. I remember that episode/those episodes very clearly, an amazing feat in and of itself, and shows just how powerful the show could be. I miss it...
What a shell shock to see Artie go if I was there I would give him his own designable ninja mask and say to him Artie you are now officially a ninja turtle dude 😎 well miss you
When I this was out I was a toddler, but now I'm older and I have good taste in music, can anyone tell me if The Field Mice were used as music in this show?
Artie Didn't Leave Because Pete doesn't need Him much anymore, Artie Left Because There are Other Children out there Who don't have The Strength and Confidence that Pete eventually has and his Work with Pete is Done.
I wonder why he actually left the show, or if it was written that way? I'll have to research this. Cool song at the end, anyone know who that is? And the song?
I could be wrong, but I heard Toby Huss was having medical issues that prevented him from continuing, including ones that affected his memory. He said that all he can remember of his reasons for leaving the show is that he did it "of his own accord" (and amicably), according to his commentary on a DVD collection of the show.
90s and 80s TV shows were about fun and good things, back then censoring hadn't got the paranoia in people's heads and you could enjoy what you saw. Cartoons and non cartoons. Don't Eddie mcdoubt it 🐺
You might not be wrong... lol. I don't know who John Frusciante is though, nor what a 1/5 apartment refers to. As for Emotional OD... not sure what to make of that exactly. Maybe this has something to do with all the drugs coursing through my body... haha. =P long live the 90s
It's interesting that most don't even recall the third season of Pete and Pete. It seems when a show truly succeeds, there is no need for a third season. Truly a masterpiece.
No, this was the middle of season 2 (of 3), so only roughly halfway through the series overall. Nona takes Artie's place in the opening credits for season 3. The final episode was "Saturday", which details, well, events for various characters on a Saturday: Big Pete tries to strike up a conversation with his barber, Ellen delivers pizza as a bunny, and Bus Driver Stu is stuck at a red light all day.
