I'm in my first month of PhD so all I have been feeling is lost and overwhelming. I guess the moral of the story is you just need to continue and carry on with your work until you know for sure what you're doing. Thanks Jessica for the positive attitude and advices.

Thank you for this video - I'm 4 months into my PhD and just feel so lost, like I don't know anything about this whole process. It makes me feel better that I'm not the only person that has felt so lost in this journey. I just want to do my research 😅

Hello! It gets easier trust me :) it’s normal to feel a bit lost at the beginning but after a year or so you will start to feel a lot more in the flow of things!

@@drjessicagomezb to be honest, in the 1st month I felt lost all the time when seeing other Phd students around me knowing everything and so smart. Thanks for your advice, it matched 100% what all the 1st year students feel right now.

Thanks for the informative video, How do you understand any new concept? How do you understand the difficult mathematics associated with any concept/topic you encounter in a research article? How did you came up with your research question/problem for your PhD?

You’re welcome! A PhD is all about learning and sometimes it can take a while to learn new concepts and techniques but you can do this with books, the internet and learning from others in your group. I didn’t come up with my research idea, it was already proposed when I applied for the PhD.

Thanks a lot! I'm almost in my second year and still struggling a lot. I was wondering how you manage to organize and memorize all the papers and books you read and how much time you put into your literature background.

Hey! I’m sorry to hear that you’re struggling 😔 if I’m being honest, I don’t memorise the papers I read! And I don’t read as much as I probably should. I usually read when I need to learn a new technique or when there’s a new interesting paper in my field. I don’t read all the time admittedly. I’m reading a lot more now because I’m writing my introductions for my chapters in my thesis and this is the most I’ve read in a long time! I do definitely think it’s useful to keep up with what people are doing in your field but honestly I’ve struggled to find time to do that in between all my experiments.

@@drjessicagomezb Same for me, it's very hard to keep up with the new papers and I see other researchers are publishing novel methods, and better than my proposal. Thanks again, At least I don't feel alone
