On the other hand, advice for older people: Life seems shorter than you expected! Every passing year goes way faster than the previous one! Before you know it, your youtube comments will outlive you. As soon as there's a timestamp on something you write or live, it becomes history. Don't believe me.... this comment is being written in the NOW moment! Watch it move into history!

As a 70 year old man I can suggest that you start making decisions as you're going to live a very long time, rather than live for today. Consequences are what you're going to have to live with.

It was not too long ago that depression was determinable. I believe the rise in clinical psychology invented the word depression among others. In the ancient days, the only clue left for us to any sort of feeling of depression was in the bible "you will not taste death if you follow me" How else do you "taste" death while you are alive?

I relate to what he described. I am 35 but my whole childhood I spent most all of it outside. Either riding my bike. Playing squirt gun war games around the neighborhood, tossing balls with friends.... In the summer we would leave the house around 9-10am. I live on the edge of a small city. And within a half mile we could be in the woods. We would wonder these woods near the river for hours and hours. No one was worried. We would show up at a friend's house and their parents would have us eat.. weather they knew who we were or not. Then it was right back out side. We would spend nights at other kids houses constantly. We knew what it was like to be in nature. And to spend time with people. We learned to hunt and shoot and fish... Kids I see today won't leave their houses for months besides back and forth to school. It's really sad. I can't imagine how much they are missing of being children that even they won't ever know they missed. Makes me very sad

I had a pretty similar experience here growing up. My family even put me to work during the summers on dairy and beef farms. Eating my favorite cow, #42, was an experience for an 8 year old. That said, I also had the experience of living a digital life too. My friends family had a really good PC and broadband connection in the mid-90's. I used to spend hours playing on that computer. Since then, I've worked hard maintaining both a physically active lifestyle and a digital existence and I'm nearing 40. I often hear the same line of how living a digital life is "different" somehow than getting outside. I think a digital life is different, but to summarize one as worse overall than the other I feel is ignorant. I think living a digital existence is an evolving condition. And its rapidly evolving right along with other digital trends. Whatever your judgement of the digital universe, the digital universe is not a trivial thing. Personally, I think a kind of superior pure-digital lifestyle is possible, and probable in the near future. With enough real world solutions to biological problems, one may never need to leave their home. This universe is huge. I think it is ignorant to assume that there is only one kind of lifestyle to live. I think we can carve out quite a significant "life" for ourselves online, especially when Neuralink-like companies start to directly connect. But, would we be missing out if we lived pure-digital lives? Yes. But, we are always missing out on something.

@@lostinbravado I understand what you are saying. I often wonder if my distaste for technology is unfounded. Since I dislike it because I feel it is making us lose what it means to be human. But possibly it is just part of the evolution of our species. Almost like harnessing control of fire. It is a major step. I am a always thinking, questioning person. And being this way my beliefs change. For where I am now and have always been. I am deeply against humans merging with computers and machines. I think it is very dangerous and a corruption of nature and God. I believe we should advance ourselves to a point where we have fuller control over our body and our minds. This is what is worth evolving for and into. Computers and technology have a place. I feel best used to teaching and sharing knowledge and ideas. But as we see even at this low stage. Our shortcomings within our own selves have corrupted the gifts technology brings. For the most part we are engaging in it only in ways that weaken and destroy us. We all have the keys to unlock endless amounts of knowledge to ourselves but what do we do? Do we research and learn on topics we do not know or understand? Very very rarely. Instead we watch pornography, post pictures of our dinner plates, make RU-vid comments... Our children because of growing up in this way of life now are more obese than ever, barely know how to communicate with others, becoming lazier and more mentally ill and confused. To the point that girls don't believe they are girls and boys don't believe they are boys... And we tell them that is normal and anything said otherwise is hateful... Instead of scientific facts... The corrupt and power robbing elites are using this technology to survale our every move and spread confusion.... Anyone who would want their mind, heart and soul tied into that grid.. I wish them the best of luck.

@@ronprice1819 having lived both lives I feel the concerns of you and others are valid. It's just that there is much more to the equation. In the competition between the digital realm and the real world, the digital realm might win our attention, especially in the long run. But then if you think about it, that just means less people clogging up the trails and more room for nature. Seems like a win for nature to me? As to hacking biology being the realm of God, I don't think that's true. Is the realm of God so small? Even if we hacked our biology and created vast digital universes, would we be God? Not even close, I think. Are we Gods because we can fly in the sky like birds? No, that's silly, right? I think if we dramatically expand what it means to be human, our small problems today will be rapidly overcome. Whatever the case, I doubt we are in control of anything. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if no one was in control. Control itself seems a rather flawed concept.

A man needs purpose. That I do know. I know very little. I suspect that hope is absolutely necessary as is defeat. I dont know what values make up the formula in order to grow and “unfold” (beautiful language to describe this thank you for sharing) to be the best version of your future self. I guess that “hope” is sort of “waning” in and out throughout trials and circumstances throughout our lives? I cant speak to this with certainty , only “hope” for the best for anyone relying on it. I can and will advise on what I do know. Men need to have purpose. Full stop. Books and podcasts are inspiring and rewarding to gain insight and knowledge, but Books are not enough. Not even close. Leadership Mentors. Good men in your life. Men need to act, and try damn hard to become a mentor to all, in real life, on every day, with every interaction. Thx lex for being yourself

“Man’s Search for Meaning” is the closest a book has come to changing my life. I was deeply depressed. I was lonely, starting a new job, moving to an entire city, dealing with my OCD and having a heave of health issues. I read that book and it truly changed how I thought about life. I since loaned the book to numerous friends and family. Ironically, I’m getting it back this week to read it again for a 2nd time. It sounds dumb, but for mean the best books are 1. The Bible, 2. Man’s Search for Meaning. It is that high on my list

@@rustedbiscuits874 you take it as an arguable conversation. I made no indication I was arguing.
