Here we have a Williams T2 pinball machine from 1991. When I bought the machine it was complete in parts but badly neglected. Let's go through all of the problems and fix them.

Just purchased a T2 that was renovated! Your help is amazing. I have a few issues with my machine and your lessons are PRICELESS! Looking forward to watching all your videos. I know enough about electronics to be dangerous. Always regretted not taking electronics and small engine repair in the late 1960s high school.

Just when I thought "Hey, it's been awhile since Arti posted something, I hope he's okay", this video pops up. Thank you. Keep safe.

Awesome -- now I know that pinball machines have a ball search function. You learn something every day. Lithium batteries should solve the leakage problem.

Thanks Arty, nice video,. I think it may be a false economy to reuse those Duracells, given their prodigious propensity to leak.

I've replaced them with Panasonic cells which I've had good experience with

I have also seen similar (but far simpler) displays look weak due to a bad supply, too much AC ripple due to bad smoothing caps.

I recommend putting a sticker over that EPROM window, and replacing all of the electrolytic caps, 30 year old caps will be failing soon even if they seem ok right now.

How low can the Vbatt DC voltage be to the static ram for it NOT to work? is the lower limit 3.5 volts or 3vdc?

The minimum data retention voltage is claimed to be 2V.

Just got this machine. When i played it at the sellers house everything worked great, transported it home (300 miles), and set it all back up. took pictures and made sure all the connectors are in the right spot. Issue I have is the gun wont move, lights arent working now and when i start a game the gun wont pull the actuator but the test for the gun says its open and working. Any tips??

I just "fixed" a ST:TNG that showed similar symptoms as you describe. The machine was delivered, set up and acted weird. I re-seated every connector in the backbox, many of which were loose. Then I did a factory reset and the machine came back to life.

@@artifactelectronics I went through a second time and unplugged every connector and reseeded it, did the factory reset as well and nothing changed. I feel like it has to be something minor that is shorting something. Spent 3hours on it yesterday and figured i just to walk away and reset all over again today.

It's funny, but the lights in the ST:TNG didn't work either initially. At one point it complained about F104 and F105 (12V supply). Make sure that the connectors on the bottom of the CPU board have no bent pins.

Ok so I have 95% of it running now. All lights and gun is working and i can play a game. I had to reseed and rewire alot today. Now my issue is the display isnt working, but earlier before I commented to you it was working just fine so now sure what that issue is. Circuit 604 is seeded correct and J603 is as well, any tips on that. I do have one bad fuse and i rotated it around and it didnt get the display to support it up.

What are the white L shaped pin connectors actually called? I have a Williams BOP that needs some replaced.
@artifactelectronics
@artifactelectronics 2 года назад
They are called locking pin headers with a pin spacing of 0.156 inches.
