As a 50+ yr old Irish man living in the US for 20 years, I get something in my eye every time I see my Aer Lingus plane that's about to take me home to Ireland.
I am 66 and born in the uK to an Irish Father. i flew to Ireland several times as a child on Aer Lingus and remember it so very well and how nice the crew were to me. Plus, my Dad's excitement to go back to see his Mother.
ok so, Im going to Ireland in 3 weeks with my family and my grandparents paid for the whole trip and i was looking at the itinerary for our tip and I saw that we were going to be flying in business class and i was shocked and happy that we were going to Dublin via business class on Aer Lingus. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!
Widebodies have to be my favorite... there's just something special about them. An a321 or 757 coming in is fine, but seeing that 787 or a350 will never be topped by one of those tiny planes. The a220s are pretty awesome though
If you fly even smaller regional jets like. CRJ or ERJ, the narrow bodies are giants in comparison. Especially the newer A321s with four toilets in the economy. Pretty comfy and enough space and facilities. I must fly a 747 at least once before they’re out of service everywhere. They’re GIGANTIC
I agree the a220 is awesome. Think wide bodies are quite cool it’s unfortunate most of them are so similar now:/ so many flights are the same old a330.
@@mehabox Fair enough, I do most of my flights on a319s and e190s, and even though a321s are pretty nice, nothing can compare to a widebody for me. Widebodies are also generally used on long haul routes and are much less common at my home airport, BOS, than a321s, and they are usually flown on less common airlines at the airport (Air France vs JetBlue).
Final call from Aer lingus at Paris, I was rushing towards the gate and I'm the last to board, Aer lingus treated me so good that I forgot all the tension . They are really cool, friendly and great in handling. I enjoyed a smooth landing, enjoying the view of the beautiful greenish land.
I always use Aer Lingus when flying to the US - they offer a good service from regional airports in UK to Dublin and it’s easy to connect, plus the pre-clearance of Passport is a huge plus. Much more convenient than driving 2-3 hours to Heathrow or Gatwick from the Midlands.
Folks might find it useful to know that once you’ve cleared US Customs in Dublin there are very few shops on the other side. It is pretty basic so best not to plan a lot of time in that area before flying.
Hi Jeb, done this route a few times, it's always easy to get a local connection from UK regional airports to Dublin then connect. The pre-clearance is the main advantage and the fares are no more than direct from London. Aer Lingus have always been a friendly and very proud airline and even under IAG that seems to still hold true
Made it from the curb to the gate in 45 minutes a few weeks ago, and flying Aer Lingus even in economy is a very pleasant experience. Food is far better than Delta or American on the same route. You're right that they feel 'independent', very solid airline.
I only take Aer Lingus to go to the US. Air France does not cut it, let alone Delta or any other American airline. Go Irish, I missed you during Covid.
Thank you for being so descriptive in your videos. It helps me out a lot because I am someone who is totally blind and cannot see at all. Keep up the great work.
Glad you've finally flown on Aer Lingus. They're my choice for heading West over the Atlantic because of the immigration outpost. Much better landing after a 7 hrs flight knowing you don't have an hour to queue at immigration.
Yeah, I've flown across the Atlantic in both, Aer Lingus, and American Airlines. Overall, a very similar (ok) experience; but, due to certain details, if I were to choose between the two, I'd, also, be choosing Aer Lingus!
Preclearance is one of my favorite reasons to fly out of Dublin. It’s great to be able to get the customs clearance done there and fly in as a domestic flight. I also like how Aer Lingus usually boards from the back upwards, sometimes they don’t but it’s so nice when they do.
I wish more airlines would board from back to front although preclearance can be advantageous. On preclearance, few examples exist worldwide of clearance to enter one country or territory before even exiting another, with juxtaposed controls on trains and ferries that cross between Mainland Europe and the British Isles.
Thank you Jeb for showing the menu, which takes you maybe 15 seconds to film, instead of inconveniencing your viewer to go to another link. I’ll give you 🌟🌟🌟🌟 stars for this.
As an Australian, I could not help but smile when you mentioned under eight hours as being a long flight. For us, the distance to NYC/Europe is about twenty-three hours, even longer when a connection is held up! It is all perspective and what we are used to, I suppose! Thank you for the video!
No offense but this comment is a bit off. He said it was a RELATIVELY long flight. The flight from Ireland to the east coast is usually just under 7 hrs. In his case, due to the weather conditions, it took longer. He was not complaining about the length of it per se, rather that it took longer than usual. But I definitely can't imagine how tired you guys must feel after hopping on very long flights to Europe or America. Wish Australia could like disappear and reappear somewhere in the middle of Atlantic haha.
Aer Lingus, from what I recall, names it’s aircraft after saints in both Gaelic and English. I find that to be an interesting touch that we barely see any longer in the US, aside from Hawaiian and JetBlue.
@@donaghobrien9580 it's known as Gaeilge not Gaelic That's the main sport in Ireland And the Celtic Scottish language which is similar to Irish Gaeilge is the Irish for Irish
I really enjoyed flying Aer Lingus in business IAD-DUB in their A321NEO, it doesn't make any difference to me flying in a widebody or narrowbody across the Atlantic as the hard product and the onboard service is more important, although if a narrowbody meant greater frequency of flights then I'm all for it over a widebody.
Jeb, after watching your Amtrak videos I have planned a trip with my son on the Texas Eagle the week before he starts kindergarten. He loves trains and as you said less dramatic scenery I agree kind of takes the pressure off to see it all and we will be able to enjoy the ride. On a side note have you ever thought about doing a cruise video? I’m particularly interested in Transatlantic crossings from New York to Southampton. I think it’s more your style to do a cruise for transportation rather than just a party. Jason
Oh Jeb it makes my little Irish heart soar to see you in my country and on our airline! I'm so happy to see that you enjoyed your flight. When I am away as soon as I set foot onto an Aer Lingus aircraft I already feel home before we even take off. I've only ever had the pleasure of flying Business Class once with Aer Lingus and that was on a trip to Boston back in 2003, a long time ago! I hope you had a great trip to Ireland (did you stay at The Shelbourne Hotel seeing as you showed it in your video?) and I hope you come back to see us again soon ☘️ 💗
@@GreenerGrass Oh I love that hotel so much. It's beautiful and it has so much history. So happy you got to stay there and even happier to hear that you'll be back to my hometown someday! Hopefully you will get to see some other parts of Ireland too next time 😊
@Ian Murphy Oh that was stupid autocorrect!!! 😂 I know it's The Shelbourne, I've walked past it and been in it often enough to know! (and auto correct has just tried to change it again on this message too 🙄🙄🙄) I've just gone in and edited it as mistakes like that really bother me!!
Wide body flights and pre-departure champagne are initial elements of a great trip - usually a vacation. I also think that I would’ve awarded a 5 for both the food and IFE, based on what you showed. Great to watch your videos to get a baseline of what to expect. Thanks, Jeb!
Absolutely enjoyed this! I've flown Aer Lingus a few times and I also flew to Ireland from the Isle of Man back when their regional was operated by Stobart Air *now Emerald Airways* having used to live on the Isle of Man. The A330 is one of my favorite aircraft.
@John Smith "route it wasn't designed for" is a silly statement as the only thing that matters is distance and ETOPS. You are just moaning about "dumbing down". Guess what, you are going to have to lump it more and more ;)
As always, your reports are awesome. Also, I agree with you about Dublin, it's an amazing city. Of course, a widebody jet, to cross the pond, is always more elegant and preferable. Thank you for sharing.
Myself and my girlfriend were the two people sitting in front of you😃 I can see my legs on the escalator 😂 we didn’t want to annoy you and say hey, but video is fantastic! That turbulence was something aye?
I wish you had said hi! And, yes…The turbulence was gnarly! Just landed in JFK from Geneva and it took the same 7 hours and 50 minutes we needed from Dublin! 🤯
I recently went to Dublin for a week back in late March with United. It was a great experience, and I would love to visit again. I hope you enjoyed your stay there as much as I did
Fabulous Review!! I am flying Aer Lingus (business Class) Manchester to JFK in Dec 2024 for a five day happy getaway after my birthday voyage on the QM2 - double crossing - Southampton to NYC!! Cheers xx
Widebodies are my favorite as well, from my first L-1011 heading to London from L.A. to the DC-10 coming home to the Q-Suite I last took from Doha on 777. Great video, Jeb. You look great on the throne!
My wife and I took this same plane/class from SFO-DUB in 2017 and we loved it. The seats are a little weird, but if you're in the middle with a partner it's fine.
This looks fantastic. I would fly them in a heartbeat if flying to or from Ireland. The afternoon tea is such a cool touch for the itinerary, really unique.
To be fair I’ve never flown a narrow body transatlantic but I think I’d prefer the wide bodies, bigger = more fun! Love finally seeing and AER LINGUS 🇮🇪 review! Hope you enjoyed it I can’t wait to try them!! Cheers 🥂 or should I say may the luck of the Irish be with you! 🍀
I love traveling in business to and from Europe. I'll be on the DUB to LAX flight in November and I'm really excited. I have to admit that I've watched this video several times now because I cannot wait to try this airline! I'm flying into Edinburgh on Finnair and home from Dublin on Are Lingus. I am going to attempt a 2-week trip in the fall with just a carry on and small backpack - one thing I do wish is that the requirements for the small bag weren't so small on Aer Lingus. My travel backpack is 16" tall and my carry-on is 20". Unfortunately, their small-bag height limit is 10 inches so I can't keep both. Since it's a direct flight, however, I'll likely check in the 20" bag without too much fear of getting it lost. Still, I was hoping to avoid that baggage carousel at Tom Bradley. The Finnair in-bound flight has a connection, but the carry-on allowance will be enough so that I can keep both bags on me. Anyhow, I am bursting with anticipation at this trip. For me, the vacation starts the minute I set foot in the airport so being early and enjoying the lounges is a big plus and reason that I tend to fly in business a lot. Thanks for the video - oh, and I booked the other "throne seat", 5K, based on your advice. It's going to be a great flight!
Thank you for flying the airline I love most I’ve never flown business but I get the fast track business check in and lounge bc my dad is an art lingers frequent flyer and he normally flys DUB-JFK
Of all the flight vloggers on RU-vid I find yours the most professional ,excellent video quality and great voiceover . Well done ,watching from Derry city Ireland 🇮🇪.
I took Aer Lingus from Boston to Dublin, and then Dublin to Naples. Nice airline! I love how Irish it is. You feel like you're already in the country when you step on board.
Great report as usual. I live in Dublin. I usually fly Delta, Air France or United. I particularly enjoyed your opinion on Aer Lingus. Next time you’re coming to Dublin let me know. I’ll bring you for a pint of Guinness
Great video as always Jeb Im happy to see you fly Aer Lingus. They are definitely a very good airline to say the least. They have very friendly crew, a comfortable seat, and decent food. All in all I enjoyed this video a lot and thanks for making It. And cya in the sky!🛫👍
Thanks for sharing this video. Aer Lingus does look like an airline that not only has modern livery, airport lounges, gates, customer service friendly staff as should always be with all the other airlines, great food. It really does have a total Irish proprietor (one owner) not a IAG conglomerate where most of the times all starts to go sour. Although you had a long flight coming back to Manhattan, New York. The service the plane, the ride was comfortable, safe, effective. Hope to see future business class flight on Aer Lingus to other destinations in Europe and the Indian Ocean islands like Mauritius, Maldives etc, etc.
There are few things that have as positive an effect on me as hearing Irish accents welcoming me aboard, especially if I've been away for a while. It's like stepping off the rest of the world, and into Ireland.
My Grandmother just completed her 32 day trip in Ireland, and Scotland. Scotland was her 100th country, while she was there she flew on an Aer Lingus’ ATR-72 (Operated by Diamond Air) from Dublin. She said it was a great experience!
I enjoyed watching your experience with aer lingua. I can top it. Yes top it! Uzbekistan airlines. Recently I flew business class to Moscow. Now you go yo business lounge, and this is where the experience happens. You check in, then you go through your own security no crowds no masses then to the lounge area where food and drink is available the announcement your flight is boarding. You have your own boarding corridor and checks on the plane you turn left and lo and behold is your seat. Service was wonderful the staff so very friendly . You don't mix with the Hoi poloi again.give uzbekistan a go. You will love it.
I took this flight pre-pandemic. Loved it. Don’t know if it has changed since. My wife and I are flying on the new Singapore A380 first class suites. Can’t wait!
I’ve flown that aircraft to MCO in 3K, wonderful seat, however the only thing I found was in bed mode there wasn’t enough space to turn sideways in the “coffin” hole under the ice. Same issue on other airlines as well however
Thanks Jeb always enjoy your observations. I’ve no plans to fly any Aer Lingus routes in the foreseeable future but it’s always nice knowing the product offered by the different airlines
So glad to see this vlog.Am flying MCO to MAN in economy soon, but I upgraded to Business class for the return flight in 5K,a throne seat. Can’t wait for this experience.Have never flown business before!
Although this video was from two year ago much appreciate the review as I'll be flying this in reverse JFK to Dublin in August. Very much looking forward to the trip and was able to snag a throne seat although 5k instead of 3k. I honestly have to say that I enjoy flying on the wide bodies in part because you can get up and walk a circuit of the plane which for longer transatlantic flights is great and I concur there is something about the majesty of a double aisle plane vs a narrow body :)
Thanks for this and all the videos you post! Super cool! Quick question. Do you actually travel to all these places only to film these videos? Or is it because of business trips that you happen to be there? If it’s for the videos, I applaud your effort👏🏼 If it’s the second, I want your job LOL
Great review. Widebody is my choice every time, far better in business class. I scored one of those throne seats on Swiss, LAX-ZRH, a few years ago. What a wonderful experience, so spacious and private. That wasn't "high tea" you had, which is equivalent to a full dinner. It was afternoon tea. A little naming error that always exposes an American! :) Jeb, as usual, this was an excellent review. The pre-clearance is a great program, but I have yet to experience it as I usually fly LAX to deeper inside Europe.
I can never hear the words Aer Lingus without being reminded of the hilarious Saturday Night Live sketch on Aer Lingus a few years ago. It's available on RU-vid.
I flew this back in 2019. I think it’s the best seat to ‘cross the pond’ from the U.K. I’d chose this over BA that’s for sure. Not tried it on the Neo which is now being offered
HI JEB! I LIVE NEAR DUBLIN AND HOPE TO MEET YOU SOMETIME IF YOU EVER COME BACK! YOU ARE THE BEST RU-vidR I HAVE EVER SEEN. AER LINGUS IS A GREAT AIRLINE AND PEOPLE WHO WORK ON IT ARE VERY FRIENDLY. HOPE SEE YOU IN THE SKY!
I usually go to the aer lingus lounge before emigration. I usually fly economy but my dad is a frequent flier as he goes to new Jersey with work an awful lot. So I usually go to the business room with him. I went last week and it was lovely and quiet. The seats were comfortable and I was able to charge my phone. There is little snacks that are great to bring in the plane with you. I love their pretzels and biscuits.
