Franklinford is a township in the Central Highlands of Victoria, Australia, located in the Shire of Hepburn and 123km (76mi) north west of the State capital Melbourne.
It was the site chosen by Edward Stone Parker to build the Loddon Aboriginal Protectorate station at Franklinford in January 1841 which was an important focus of the Dja Dja Wurrung people from 1841 until they were forcibly resettled in 1864. It is located on the Midland Highway.
The school (1860) is on the Register of the National Estate and is used as a community centre.
Franklinford Post Office opened on 15 February 1859 and closed in 1969
There is no longer any general store or hotel in the town; the nearest being at Newstead, Hepburn or Daylesford.

Woohoo. Good video. Near(ish) my home (about 20 kms away). Yes it was an old store AND hotel. Marvellous how someone has restored that building to a home from that old ruined building in your photo. Thats always great to see. Slight correction : it’s not on the Midland Highway (Wikipedia is not always correct). That’s about 4 km back and travels between Daylesford and Castlemaine. You turn off it. Franklinford is on the C285 or Newstead road (as we call it). PS: the general store in Newstead does great burgers and bacon, egg and toast breakkies old style. Cheap, big serves but no fancy fuss.

Newstead would be one of my favorites if I ever intended to make a permanent country lifestyle change ... Just as a heads up, my drama free, easy to maintain and ever reliable ute has been sold to a chap in Mildura - It will still pop up from time to time as I have a backlog of videos to last out the year ... I'm buzzing off to Europe on the 19th Oct - 1st Dec but there will be a video every Friday at 6:00am and a few on Monday's too ... I'll be online the whole time away and getting footage of what I got up to in Europe for next year.

@@urbanaerialexplorer1885 It also has one of the top 3 butchers in Victoria (imo). It’s a lovely town. Popular with campers and caravaners as it has free camping/caravan (or low cost anyway) at the reserve and showers and toilets for use as well. Yes the old school was converted in to a community centre.

i knew this area well 50 years ago. there used to be very classy but run down buildings along some of the old gold-era coach roads. there are a lot of old coach roads in this area. you can tell they were coach roads because the roads would veer around large trees instead of going straight. there was a 2 storey building along this road you are on that i used to wish that one day i had the time and money to restore it. i assumed it was doomed to be wrecked by time or bushfires. however it was the star of a 'restoration australia' episode. it looked a treat when it was finished.

it's amazing how people remember their history with such detail - even if on the surface it might appear insignificant to others ... Thanks 👍

I'm guilty of not stopping and ''smelling the roses'' while going through the motions and demands of life, but with time no longer a concern I do stop - sometimes you get lucky and discover something unexpected !
