Taking a first look at a pre-release of the Bombardier CRJ550ER and CRJ700ER from Aerosoft for Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS). I run through the exterior, cockpit, briefly look at the systems, start-up, take-off and landing back at Kissimmee (KISM).

Um American Eagle is not fake. It's the regional American Airlines. Similar to how Delta has Delta Connection.

You can sort of forgive that, though, wouldn't really expect someone to know foreign regional airlines. I wouldn't expect Americans to know about Air North, Rex, or even Jetstar in Australia, for example.

Correct. And the reason the CRJ700 has more liveries available is not because of licensing but the fact only United ordered the CRJ550.

I just flew there right before Christmas last year had to stop in Atlanta then to clt. Took an American eagle to clt . Haven’t flown for a few years and from MSP to ATL I got to go on a newly redone delta 737 and it was super nice had the screens with tv and everything ( on the ground it worked) and movies/ live flight data. And they were not filling middle seats so it was real nice . Going on the smaller plane after tho and jamming in the 2 seat side wasn’t the best experience lol.

Honestly I’m currently an IRL pilot in an aviation college and we’ve been doing a mock training course on the CRJ-700, learning about all its systems. One thing that’s actually interesting is that using instant or fast IRS alignment isn’t exactly unrealistic, as most CRJs these days have upgraded to an AHRS/ADC system rather than an IRS, similar to what you would find on a G1000 aircraft.

I agree. I personally don't need them on the CRJ since I was already familiar with the thing from P3D. But it is such a wonderful feature to learn the checklists and positions of everything for a new airframe, that I really don't get why add-on developers are ignoring the function.

Its a great thing seeing Airliners brought in. I love the prop planes that are already in the game and feel its a pretty good selection but bringing in more Airliners is def. a good thing to add to add more to the games plane selection balance

Hey Squirrel, the CRJ-550 will only have a United Express Livery as UA is the only one to run that configuration. They designed the CRJ-550 as a 50 seat RJ to get around their Pilot Union Contract with regard to RJ to Mainline numbers. By contract UA is allowed so many 76+ seat RJ's in service by regional operators of which the CRJ-700 is used for. By overhauling numerous 700 series into the 50 seat 550 Series UA can have more Regional Jets in service compared to their Mainline Fleet. Plus the 50 seater only needs 1 FA compared to the standard 2. Like other have commented also, American Eagle is the RJ arm of American Airlines.

1:43 You got it backwards Squirrel. The CRJ-550 was developed between United and Bombardier as an upgraded version of the CRJ200. It has the same capacity as a 200, but with the size and space of a 700. The 700 has more seats than the 200 Also, at 2:25, American Eagle is a real airline. As other have said, it’s the regional brand for American Airlines, like Delta Connection or United Express.

The 550 is just a 700 that has had some seats taken out and the MTOW reduced to comply with the maximum weight in the scope clause in United’s pilot contract. That’s why United are, and probably always will be, the only operator. The airframes aren’t even new builds, they’re literally converted 700s.

It's pretty exciting to see airliners being brought in. As cool as the spitfire and Piper Arrow is, I feel like the sim already has enough decent GA prop planes built in. EDIT: For the switches you were unable to flick, just use the mousewheel for them like a knob. It's a bit odd, but it does work.

Great little video - I have really enjoyed flying this plane. I note that Working Titles have integrated Navigraph charts into CJ4 so hopefully someone might do it here. ILS is a pain - i can take off and cruise - but landing is a bit of hit and miss for me personally. Love the indepth nature of the systems - i can see me having many hours in this beast. thanks for the video.

Trick for TrackIR, I bind a mouse button to pause TrackIR. So I can flick buttons around without worrying of moving my head too much. After I de pause and back to normal. Works really well.

10:33 Quite the opposite actually. The hydraulics on the nosewheel steering are SO strong, they will literally whip & yank the towbar and tug-truck left and right. Pretty scary stuff for the tug driver. The NSWS switch should always remain off until ground crews give the signal saying they are fully disconnected, and the pushback is complete :)

A thought/suggestion on your reverse thrust issues: MSFS 2020 has a couple of options for reverse thrust - toggle and hold - with either option, you still have to engage the thrust (be it via lever or button presses) for the reverse thrust to take effect.

Genuinely interested if somebody has some insight: What do they mean by "sdk doesn't allow outbound connections"? I mean the WorkingTitle CJ4 just implemented Navigraph charts in the FMS and both, the FBW A32NX and the WT CJ4 have various METAR/ATIS requests with multiple options for data sources (vatsim/faa/...).

I believe it's because Aerosoft did not use the built-in HTML/Javascript for instruments but instead use WebAssembly (WASM) which is compiled into a DLL which is not allowed outbound connections. WorkingTitle (presumably) used HTML/Javascript

Big thank you for your super wonderful videos. It's such a pleasure to hear you talk, fly the planes (both in real life and Sim) and it's also so educational. Since my childhood I've loved flying and played many Sims. Although I'm super scared of real flying. Immediately panic (really badly) when there's even the smallest turbulence lol. You have to work the throttle carefully... IF you reduce the power almost to idle, it will; trickle the landing announcement. If you set the throttle back to a cruising setting, it will start the seatbelts. announcement since assuming to reach cruising altitude etc...

American Eagle and United Express are operated by regional airlines like Republic and SkyWest but are a code share with the major airlines and get to use the name and are part of the larger routing operation.

The only operator of the 550 is GoJet in the US. They are TSH Trans States Holdings who operate them for United

23:40- The CJ4 can display charts from Navigraph (JEPPS included), so it is possible to have charts in the airplane. It shows on the MFD, not in the EFB

American Eagle is a very real airline. They operate on behalf of American Airlines on regional routes. JFK-PIT would be an example. Same for United express and Delta Connection. They operate on behalf of another airline. Hope this helps!

American Eagle and United express are real, they're the regional service for the main airline, like KLM cityhopper, the difference being the flights are operated by different airlines under a contract. But yeah, American Eagle is real.

Just a small detail on the heat haze effect, the external view showed heat haze whilst the ITT temp must have been still around 28C given that @Squirrel moved outside straight after adding fuel. Something for Aerosoft to address.

TR's wont work in the OFF position lol. Its on the center pedestal beside where the captains right knee would be. 3 switches ones for spoilers other two are for arming TR's

If no one is familiar with the CRJ-550, it’s an aircraft that GoJet uses, they are a regional for United. Only GoJet uses the CRJ-550. It’s just a CRJ-700 that’s been converted, there’s less seats so there is a little bit more room which is seen under GoJets eyes as more appealing to business class travelers.

The CRJ550 only has one airline livery, because in real life it is only operated by one Airline. Marketed as “United Express” (the banner United Regionals fly under). they are all Operated by GoJet airlines.

Looks like the flight path marker on the HUD is broken. It was stuck to the centerline of the HUD and seemed to respond instantly as the plane pitched.

American Eagle is a real aircraft owned and operated by American Airlines...they just take passengers from an International Airport to a smaller regional Airport, used to see them all the time when I lived in Buffalo, New York as they flew into and out of KBUF Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

RU-vidr and Pilot Swayne Martin has been making videos about his pilot career. After flying for Mokulele airlines in Hawaii, he moved on to become a pilot in a CRJ for American Eagle (a real airline), and continues to make videos flying the CRJ for them.

I believe that Aerosoft set that limit. They allowed some people to the pre release media version but they were not allowed to release any pictures or videos until after release. I noticed a lot of people launch a pre release version video right after it was released.

American eagle isn’t fake mate it’s republic airways rebranded for American Airlines connection the same way delta use endeavor and sky west as connection hoppers.
