[ this story was told by my father when i was 10 -11 years old , this took place in a small village in yavatmal district maharashtra. ] it was 1978s summer time. electricity was new miracle to villages in deep maharashtra. mostly connection was given to farmers for running water pumps from canal and wells. and at that time electricity timings were weird, during day there was no electricity so farmers have to go at farm at night. my father grewup in joint family, where all works were distributed. one of the chore was ,somebody has to go to farm at night to turn on water pump whenever light on temple was ON that was only indication that there was electricity. unfortunately that night it was turn of my grandfathers brother laxman. he was wrestler type personality. he has fear of nothing. our farm was nearly 4 km away from home/village. he left home at midnight when small bulb on mandir lighted, assuming that there will be electricity. he reached farm and tried to start the water pump, but he couldnt, there was irreular volatge in a minute there was full voltage and suddenly it would go fluctuating. he didnt understood anything, sit there smoking his bidi. as it was late than usual and he was exhausted he thought about returning home. but he wanted choose to take shortcut to home. some things which were knwn about the shortcut road to villagers was it was haunted specially pipal tree at night. there was smashanbhoomi on that path and path was filled grass and thorny babul trees and 2 3 old broken houses in which nobody lives. one peepal tree was on road which was many years old. people used to tell that anyone who died accidently or without fullfilling his wishes becomes ghost and sits on that branches. not even cattles and goats used to go there. [ganesh told me he also experienced rustling of tree branches even there was no wind , only pipal branches moves. no other tree shows movement]. beacause of that fear. people never used that road except whenever there was death in village. people only to go to smashanbhoomi for antim kriya and return before evening asap. but as my grandfather have fearless nature he travelled many time on that road just for fun. but that night he was experiencing very different about that road while he was walking. he wanted to urinate so he just went near broken wall of old house and urinated there. and continued walking. he was walking from long time but it was dark night and he had lantern in hand, he realised that grass and bushes has grown too much upto his height which was bigger than usual. anyhow he get out of that buashes and reached pipal tree. he looked at pipal tree and but in dark he couldnt see top of tree. while going under that tree he thought someone was following him. he thought it was fox or wild boar. he took his axe in on hand started screaming at dark. he heard footsteps running away from him. he again started walking toward village. again in few minutes he heard footsteps following him. at this time he turned to look back, there was a floating head few inches away from his eyes. that head had only long hairs, and has rotting flesh , he could smell that disguisting smell of flesh. as he saw this he panicked and threw away his lantern and axe. he ran nonstop for 3 km and reached village screaming "boot bhoot bhoot"... in old time people used to sleep out of home in summer on temple poarch on their charpai. people woke up heard him screaming. one of person saw this was our servant ganesh {who i met 6 months ago in a marriage ceremony} . laxman grandpa hid in animal shed where he was shivering and fainted several time. people gathered aroung him. other people and ganesh took him inside temple. somone called pandit ji. who was priest in temple. he chanted some mantra on water in his hand and used to forcefully throw on his face. whenever water hit him he used to scream, this went all night long. in morning he was swollen twice his size. his eyes were all dark circles around. and still shivering with fever and screaming bhoot bhoot. on last day he shedd half of his weight. this lasted for 3 days and then he died in sleep. he told what happened with him to family members before his last moments. my father was there too. [ this story was told by my father when i was 10 -11 years old , this took place in a small village in yavatmal district maharashtra. ]
