about the thing you said about SM debuting a group with a strong concept idea, SM did it with EXO, that thing about the super powers and the tree of life and they were separated by a evil force, etc. It's just that they did't keep that much with the concept. The avatars will be more prominent on the next track they put out. They're going to defeat the Black Mamba and then they'll meet/reunite with the ae counterparts.
All can sing but Giselle's rap was missing. I think SM is just reserving her rap skills for the comeback just like how they hid Winter's god-like vocals. Btw, aespa is following a storyline under the SM Culture Universe.
Actually it's so unique that there's no rap part here because almost in every kpop song there's a rap part. The song made it very unique, the only down point is yes we cannot hear Giselle spitting fires. It's reserved, we are really going to look foward to it 💖

I actually expected more from Giselle's rap, but maybe they will release a new song soon. Let's see! Their vocals were amazing, all of them can be seen as an all-rounder (especially if you'll go deep with their pre-debut performances! dancing+singing) edit: what I mean, I expected that they will give Giselle a rap part (because her rap in her teaser was so good). But I guess, SM just wanted to show-off their vocals and reserve their other talents in the next songs or MVs (also comebacks) because, Karina and Giselle are in their rap line :>
I actually thought Giselle was the main vocalist because of her part in the song. i hadn't seen any of the teasers or anything, but when i heard her voice, i thought it definitely had main vocalist potential.
@@ayaeya1999 exactly! Giselle is a choir member (alto, according to sources) in her school. I've also seen Karina and Winter's singing performances and they were so good! Anyone from them can be a main or lead vocalist tho.

the debut mv has so many set reference since SME made a SMCU of their own, interconnecting all of the SM groups for a new girl group like the edits, concept, effects, the story they have so many reference that they've shown like: The exotic flowers from exo and also the group concept (doppelgangers, galaxy concepts, social media) The Vfx from EXO-SC and NCT Some Reference from RV and SJ SuperM phone spoiler And BoA from the last scene so yeah :D that was my observation and not a theory :>>>>

i think this was the most budget sm spent on a girlgroup mv and maybe on a group in general. jopping by superm and regular by nct 127 are the only other mvs that came to my mind when it comes to budget at this level, but they're boygroups. i think since æspa concept is tech and futuristic, if they don't spend money, it'll look cheap and compromise the experience and the concept. red velvet, f(x) and snsd's concepts didn't require so much money to work out properly.
No I agree, I think except for Jopping, SM never goes for this grandeur of a MV. It definitely has the same scale as a Blackpink MV!! But it doesnt feel similar to them at all imo

I think the reason why their debut is so strong is because SM probably realized that there’s a lot of good rookie groups right now so they needed a way to stand out and im really glad they did cause i LOVE this concept
I felt like they are always at least one step ahead. They don’t want similar, they want to stand out. Back when EXO debuts, no one was near fantasy concepts like not as much as nowadays. They were full on rituals and wolf stuffs like that. When Red Velvet debuted, it was all bubbly and cute. They came with fresh concepts instead. Then NCT literally breaks the industry with their unique music. People were criticizing them but now everyone is trying to be just like NCT. I felt like it will be the same for Aespa as well.

The music video is HIGH QUALITY, The vocals is PRESENT and the choreography is ALIVE, but the missing part is Giselle's rap. Don't get me wrong i like the song and must say one of the best debutant kpop group this year. But, this is just the beginning of their career, they can grow more widely. STAN AESPA

The Grace exists. But kpop world doesn't really accept girl group back then, even more a girl group with strong concept. Heck, the group have 4 members who all are main vocal, and main dancers worthy. You should check their songs One More Time, OK; Boomerang; Dancing in Rain etc. Back then was hard period for a gg, further more with that strong concept.

Not gonna lie, I didn't like it but the girls are really talented. I'm also glad that we got to see them and not much of their avatars for their debut so we could see what they can do without being "distracted". It's also nice to see that kind of gg under SM, I just hope their comeback will be controversy free.

I don't know if it's just me who didn't really keep up with Blackpink's stuff but this reminds me of NCT's style instead. The song's instrumental is definitely reminds me of NCT title tracks, how it's so on your face performance that's definitely how NCT perform as well. Not that it's a bad thing, in fact I love it. And I think this is SM's "modern style". It's nothing like SM's previous groups.

Too bad, kpop industry couldn't accept girl group that well back then, even more with such a strong concept. They could step on their oppar with that concept lol. So not a lot of current kpop fans know them. But trust me, all of The Grace members are main vocals worthy, and main dancers worthy. Their vocal, dance, stage presence are out of this world. Seems like SM wanted to create a group that have all the members strong in all categories. Edit: 3 The Grace members are SM vocal trainers until recently when one didn't renew their contract with SM. One of the even become a vocal trainee in MBC survival show, Under Nineteen. I feel like SM is following the market, if that make sense. I mean, obv internationally, BP is killin it, and their concept and everything works for intl fans. And now SM is changing their gg's concept. So it's noy necessarily "copying" BP (like most ppl say...), but more like knowing your market. I can see the blackpink comparison too and honestly it does have a lot do with them being 4 members. Honestly if there was more members, then I really don’t think I would have thought that, but another reason why I got blackpink vibes is simply because of the strong visuals, vocals, dancing. Like this MV came off as badass and bold, also the girls presence were so strong. Do I think SM copied blackpink? No, not at all. Just because a group reminds me of a group, it doesn’t mean they’re copying them, and there sound is already different. Aespa had a strong kinda edm electric pop feel (kinda like a female NCT) but it was really bold, I don’t know how to explain it lol I know people are comparing them a lot in really negative ways and it shouldn’t be like that. But yes, these girls are gonna do big things. I can’t wait for them to release more music so we can really hear their sound and see their talent. 🥰🥰

Red Velvet has a dual concept though, since from the start. The Red and The Velvet side. It’s just that I think back then, people are not ready for them since they switched concept a lot of times from Happiness to Be Natural to ICC to Automatic and so on. People got confused, but now people seek for that kind of switch - versatility in genre and concept (which we all know, Red Velvet already mastered). I cannot talk about aespa’s concept since I think it’s too early for that yet.

I also thought of black pink on first watch!! The main difference I noticed which I think is why I’m gravitating more towards Aespa than I ever did with BlackPink is that the MV and concept feels more cohesive than the BP MV’s feel. Also, like you said all girls got their time to shine but their individual shots didn’t feel out of place. This M/V literally ticks every box, I was not expecting it to!!!

Honestly, I had the same opinion before their debut. But now? They ain't playing, here comes an SM girl group full of charms and talented members. This debut was one of the best of 2020,, no cap.
These girls are so talented it's insane. I expected a great song ofcourse, especially after the 2 amazing teasers that already showed that it would be a powerful song, which like you said isn't really something SM has debuted a gg with until now, but wow did they do it well!! The mv like you said is clearly VERY high budget, they seemingly went all out for the debut, even more then usual, and the dancing? ON POINT. The choreography looks amazing and a nice combo of strong moves and cute moves like at the ''ayayayaya'' part. There are already haters sadly enough cause of the concept of their digital counterparts, but I hope they get some wins and won't be affected by that. They are insanely talented, very beautiful, dance like crazy, put a lot of effort in and seem like nice girls so I'm just gonna stream this like crazy and hope for the best haha! Also it does seem like they maybe were a bit inspired by BP, which would make sense as BP is HUGE and groups like Everglow aswell, so making a similar style of group is a smart move. Though it is very different from most other GG's with strong concepts because of the unique alien-esque music video and the digital counterpart idea, and it seems like they are gonna create a story to fit this world aswell. I personally love the idea and am excited to see how they will continue this, it's a nice way of creating another strong GG but with their own touch which I always appreciate as a girl group fan haha!
It was honestly a very good debut , i came in with no expectations and i was very pleasently surprised, i dont see the BP in the MV tho for me it more heavily inspaqrd by JYP , it gives me more More and More and I Cant Stop Me and maybe Dalla Dalla but not YG, im talking cinematically
Okay I'm actually pretty into this song. I didn't expect it because I don't typically enjoy girl crush or beat drop, although this isn't really girl crush imo. But the catchiness is off the charts. I adore their vocal color and Winter is the bias for sure. But it literally doesn't remind me of Blackpink at all. I think their mvs are completely different and the song doesn't sound like a Blackpink song. It's not as rap heavy and in my opinion the vocals are way off the charts, they're great. So I'm not so sure why this comparison is like all over the internet. Anyways this debut was crazy good and a ton of people are hating it which is like... aight in 5 years come back and your favs are gonna be doing the same thing. That's what sm always does. this isn't the first time, but it is the first time in a long time, they've had a group debut with a strong concept. EXO, when they debuted in 2012, had a very strong concept, which is still being incorporated to their videos.

@@kingb.6300 imo itzy members are really stable in live stages despite hard challenging choreos (dancing queens!), while aespa members have better skills as vocalists. Literally 4 out of 4 are good vocalists (vocal queens indeed), looking forward to their performances!
People keep saying that they’re pushing Karina too much but first time hearing and watching the Mv it seemed divided well, if the lines were unfair it felt spaced out at least so I wouldn’t just constantly see one member if that makes sense.
What I don't get is the hate this group and SM gets. I can take the comparison to K/DA but is the hate necessary? Sure K/DA started the AI idol concept but are they a regular group that promotes in the industry? No. K/DA is a project group made for the game League Of Legends and it is more for the visual props (skins) in the game. The AI idol concept of K/DA is a marketing idea for it to sell inside the game. SM may have copied the concept but that is capitalizing it. If K/DA won't be a permanent group and promote throughout the industry, then SM will make one of theirs to get the job done. Also people say the AI concept isn't necessary for aespa, but I disagree. What they need is a concept to make them different to all this strong/fierce groups that is coming out. If they don't have their own image at first, then they will be compared to other groups. Look at some people comparing them to Blackpink now. If not for the AI concept, then they are no different to Blackpink or worse they will say it's just a copycat. That's all.
Been waiting for this. Yes I must agree that this is one of the most anticipated debut this year especially because of the concept. I have high expectations for them but idk the song for me was not memorable enough for the first listen. It will take a few listens for me to be able to grasp the song. But the song was good, it is powerful and so in-your-face. The MV was spectacular (ofc this is SM Ent) so I'm really looking forward to their next release and also the stage performances.
