always Blondie are consider the money factor of it is no sense in you spending 10 to 15,000 or even 3 to 8004 something and you not going to be able to make a decent living the way I look at it is in the state of Michigan the cheapest school for esthetician is 8500 then you got some that's 15000 something that's 10,000 and what I look at it is if you're going for 10,000 and you got to go for six months that's a lot to think about you got to think of the financial aspect of it so that's something to keep on your mind at all times anybody that tells you don't worry about the money is not in your circumstances that's unrealistic hopefully by now you might be there made the choice I see that you made this two years ago but for anybody that come across it always research the financial cost of that course and how much should you be able to make when you come out cuz the whole purpose of going to school is to earn a successful living!!;!

I'm a Registered Nurse (BSN, minor in Health Care Administration) for 20 years and I left. I became a nurse purely for the salary. It wasn't the career for me, but I've always (I'm old, so all of my life is a fairly long time) practiced the Cosmetological arts recreationally. Being particularly talented, I left my career to pursue my passion. Be sure to supplement with financial education and investments. You'll want to have passive income cash flow for unforeseeable business expenses that exceed your business cash flow. I hope this helps a bit.

Just came across your video and thank you for clearing alot up! I live in CA and I've been an esthetician since 2012 but here they require you to be an LVN or RN to do any of the fun stuff ( lasers and all that) lol. I'm at a crossroads about moving to where I can do that but thanks for doing this video!

Thanks so much, this is super helpful! I'm also in Chicago and about to start school at NASI and I'm so pumped. I also want to get into the medical field, and the school I'm going to specifically has a medical esthetics program (which I'm taking). But any suggestions on finding jobs in the med field or where to look?
@morgankristine6538
@morgankristine6538 6 лет назад
hey! congrats on starting the program :) -aside from looking on indeed, simply hired and other job posting sites, also google and submit your resume to med spa's/doctors offices who arent hiring. call if you have to or even go in person to introduce yourself and hand in your resume. it shows great initiative. another thing that has allowed me to stand out if my shadowing/interning at offices. while it initially sucks because you wont be paid, it looks good on a resume that you cared to get additional training. sometimes those offices will even hire you after your internship.

Overall do you believe that adding laser is worth it and can become a great career? I see lots of articles that say you can potentially make 90k and some say you can make no more than 50k a year. I'm an esthetician now and looking to add lash extensions and laser and later have my own business.
@morgankristine6538
@morgankristine6538 8 лет назад
Like with most things, its what you do with it. Personally it was worth it to me because I was getting really bored with standard facials and waxing and laser work is really interesting to me. Depending on where you work, what you charge and how busy you are, it can be very profitable. Also, what I like about the medical side is that it can offer more stability. You own your own business, so its a little different, but for someone like me, who works for someone else, there is the opportunity of getting insurance and a salary (as opposed to commission which can be very up and down). Adding laser is a good skill and doesn't hurt to know! can only be beneficial

Great video. I'm taking esthetics next semester. And I was concern about the job market. I know a lot L.Es complain about not being able to land a job right after school. What was your first job after you received your license?
@morgankristine6538
@morgankristine6538 8 лет назад
my first job wasn't the best, but it was also because I started going to college directly after. so I was not extremely concerned with it being a great job. Once I decided to go full time with skin, I took my time to find something that offered good pay (50% commission and I got to pocket tips) and was an established business so I had a good clientele to work with. If you are able to, take your time to find something good. I understand, however, that not everyone has the luxury of turning down money. Plus, even if its not the ideal job, it is good to start building your resume to establish credibility :)

Hi. I'm from NY state. I think it's worse state for esthetician. Extremely hard to find a job, and if you're lucky and you find it, then there's no clients. Here maybe 1 or 2% women only visiting esthetician, during 6 month in very great old and famous salon ...and spa I had probably around 12 clients. 12! For 6 month! When I went to school they told me....blah blah excellent profession a tones of opportunities easy find a job and good money.....that's absolutely not true, here. I'm sure in other states is better.

@morgankristine6538
@morgankristine6538 8 лет назад
+dinelia santana you do learn minimal makeup skills at esthetician school so I don't think it would be a waste to get your license. I know plenty of women who took advanced makeup classes and now focus only on makeup but maintain their esthetician license so they can make extra money doing skin care. I don't know much about makeup artistry and their credentials, but I think doing skin care can open potential doors for makeup jobs.

hey darling! to be completely candid, not yet. This is ONLY because when I got my license I was very young and not concerned with building a clientele. I jumped job to job for a very long time. If you are aggressive you can establish a decent clientele within a year or so, but normally you need to be stable for 2-3 years before getting consistent bookings. I know plenty of estheticians who live comfortably because they found a place to work they liked and stayed

Like with most jobs, as long as you work hard, you can be successful. I have noticed that the most successful aestheticians are those that find a place they like to work and stay there to build clientele. If you hop around a lot, the money wont be as great because you wont have a steady stream of clients

this was really helpful and inspiring! i've been into skincare since i was 14 (i'm going to be 21) and i was always contemplating whether or not to field as esthetician because they don't make as much money as per say, a nurse. So i'm currently majoring in nursing but i'm just finding myself not being happy with what i'm studying and i always catch myself really being into skincare. So, rather than worrying about if i'm gonna make enough money or whatever, i'm just gonna follow into doing something i know i truly love and passionate about. Which is, being an esthetician. Of course it'll be challenging just like all other jobs but at least ill have a good conscious about it. So i'm gonna be looking into beauty schools and work my way into being an esthetician and later into a laser technician too! Thank you so much for this video :)

Do you have to go to basic esthetician school before you try to be a laser tech ? (And is a laser tech the same thing as being a medical esthetician?)
@morgankristine6538
@morgankristine6538 8 лет назад
great questions! so, yes, you do need to do basic training first and then you can take a specialized course to learn about lasers and earn your certification. Some schools do offer to teach laser courses once you finish the basics so there is no need for you to go to a different school for training. A medical esthetician IS different from a laser tech. While most medical estheticians (or aestheticians) do perform laser treatments, they don't always go hand in hand. Some aestheticians simply do more medical procedures (dermaplaning, microneedling, chem peels, etc) but don't do laser work. Also, its important to note that you have to claim both titles. At least in IL you have to say you're a laser tech AND an aesthetician for legal purposes. This basically shows that you have completed separate training to learn laser work and aren't just a skin care specialist who doesn't have the laser certification.

How do the clients react to a male esthetician? Do you think my gender or my appearance would impact my work in any way?
@morgankristine6538
@morgankristine6538 8 лет назад
As far as appearance, the industry we work in is based off of not only knowledge, but looks. So being groomed is important. The only thing I can think that would cause you to not get as many clients, is if a client wants intimate waxing. Some women might not be comfortable with you doing their underarms or Brazilian wax.
@nathantatman86
@nathantatman86 5 лет назад
Coming from a male esthetician point of view. Alot i do agree with what morgan said. Also when it comes to intimate waxing. I was told by a former colleague that if i wanted to go past the limitations id have to work for a place that caters to a majority male clientele or work as an independent contractor.

Of course you do not want to sell yourself short because there are people who can afford these services and this Beaty lifestyle maintenance. My goal would be to reach all walks of life so everyone can experience the benefits of esthetician’s and masseuse too. I don’t want to add more bills to people. Maybe ppl are paying for the machines because the machine might have cost idk 5000 so u want to make your money back plus products ... my goal would to make this my career and help ppl w a reasonable cost w out selling myself short but considering others and them considering me.
