I actually need this driving in town, forget off road necessities. My town floods so bad during a heavy rainfall that certain roads get shut down. I’ve seen countless cars get stuck in town and in the old city I lived in my Ford Thunderbird was water drowned by a big “pond” in the road. Snorkels are a god send.
Nice video. Definitely check the air box after driving in your 1st heavy rain to see if you're holding water since you sealed the drain holes. Also in slushy/snowy conditions, spin your intake around or pull over every half hour or so to unclog ice buildup. And, don't forget to extend and raise your breather hoses.

Thanks for making this video. This snorkel is the best one out there for a JKU as I have been doing my research. Will the pre filter fit to replace the Ram scoop to eliminate heavy downpour coming into the snorkel?

Great video. I have standard stock JK wrangler snorkel that I got with the jeep when I purchased. It is not installed but I'm thinking of installing it. Only problem I don't have the template. Is AEV snorkel same as stock? I have JK 2007 3.8L.
To my knowledge there's no such thing as a "stock" snorkel from Jeep back in 2007. I believe MOPAR only just started to supply them with the new JLs. You could have an off brand that they gave you and called it stock? There are lots of Chinese companies that try and mimic the AEV snorkel but they use a different type of plastic. Side by side you can tell the difference. Also the 3.8 has a few slightly different steps than the 3.6 but the holes are cut and drilled the same. It's just the airbox that's slightly different.
Hey Chad - quick question buddy. Do you have a photo of what the hood looks like on the inside after you’ve cut it? Planning to install my snorkel and it only came with one trim ring for the outside of the hood. Appreciate it if you do.👍🏽
Nice video... question. The brackets that come with the snorkel kit WILL work with my Gobi rack and i dont need the one from them and wait 3 months to get. They make good stuff but there lead time on shipping sucks.
Honestly, I don't really plan on "testing" it. This was installed as a precaution because our next upcoming trip out west has several water crossings, some of which might be pushing the line of needing one. My goal is to not every put the Jeep in a situation where water will come up over the hood and I don't drive like an idiot spraying high pressure water 20 feet high. That said, I will be keeping an eye on it over time because the entire thing is sealed. My main concern now is the snorkel sucking in rain during heavy downpours. The design has several low areas where water can pool before it ever gets close to the air box but there's no way for it to exit. So it just has to evaporate eventually. Others have said it's not an issue, but I want to see for myself. Thanks for watching!
Hey brother, how do I get AEV catalogs coming to the house? I have a '94 Wrangler YJ that I need a few things for and I don't want to be locked into just one or two sources.
The grill is plenty big enough to let airflow through. Haven't had any problems at all. There are tons of Jeeps out there with lights in the same spot.

The design will prevent everything but a direct spray into the opening. If if was me, I'd turn the intake around backwards. It's made so that IF any water does make it in, it will settle in the low points. And even IF if does make it past the snorkel into the air box, there's still several inches in your airbox before it hits the filter. If it was me, I'd try it and check my airbox for water afterwards.
