Personally, I like the way AEW has started out. It seems to me that the bigger names aren't hogging the spotlight. Guys like Kenny Omega, Cody and the Young Bucks don't seem at all afraid to give the lesser known talents a chance to get over and, in my opinion, putting the main belt on Chris Jericho was a masterstroke.

The lack of proper-length build for the matches may have brought the show down as a whole though (but considering this is a dark match show, it doesn't matter as much in terms of the whole product), but watching Kenny and Joey bring the house down even after the Dynamite taping and the crowd exhausted after the show went off air was a solid plus to the growing testament of AEW's matchmaking quality.

@@bt_18 Not every match needs to have a build, think of AEW Dark as being like Friday Fight Night from boxing. Boxers just want to fight, wrestlers just want to wrestle. Sometimes in wrestling the only story you need is two Wrestlers that just want to wrestle, no story needed just two guys that want to knock lumps out of anyone that is free that night and they find each other.

@@24magiccarrot I agree with you too, not every match needs a build to be awesome. I guess I misspoke there - as a standalone show, the lack of proper hyping by the announcers before and during the matches (JR and Excalibur are amazing at their job esp. when calling spots, but they seem to not be hitting the right groove just yet, with JR not having enough time _yet_ to know the wrestlers and their gimmicks) kinda killed the momentum of the show, but I bet they'll pick up on it exponentially moving forward.

Just hope it stays this way. Time is the enemy when you’re doing weekly shows like this. It will take months to see if AEW can hold it’s ground. Sooner or later they may start toning down a little bit to focus on sponsors and possibly shareholders if they decide to go that route. Maybe not, just my observation. I love the loose feel of the show so far. I am absolutely loving Dynamite and I am excited for every Wednesday.

Kenny Omega vs Joey Janela has to be one of the most amazing hardcore matches to air non-PPV. Omega and Janela are both astonishing athletes and this was brutal beyond anything I've seen in my 40 plus years as a wrestling fan. Omega planting Janela onto the chair-backs off the ropes... brutal with the one-winged angel follow-up. Just wonderful stuff on AEW Dark. THANK YOU, AEW, for posting these dark matches for the fans. It's actually a really ingenious concept when you think about it. It gives the company a chance to build momentum for wrestlers through the use of exhibitions and doesn't cost them anymore since these match would have probably happened anyway.

What's innovative about this? They've put a secondary show on RU-vid. These aren't really "dark matches" because dark matches are supposed to go unseen. This is just another stupid ploy by AEW. All these losers have to do is say something like "We're innovative" and you suckers believe them. Really, stop following these conmen like they're something special.
