The timeslot wasn't the main reason people didn't watch the show. There was no point to watching the show. It was an hour long show that didn't matter. People say they like shorter shows, but the modern history of one hour long shows isn't great. Especially when they don't matter. Most of us have seen Sunday Night Heat before or god forbid, Velocity. You can always skip those shows.
Actually the time slot was still a big thing but also you're right as well. They made Rampage a extension of Dynamite. There was multiple main reasons.
@@higurashianduminekoconnect1702 It was a still-born from day1 on. Even a champioship match between Kenny Omega and Christian on the debut episode, or the first showing of CM Punk on the 2nd episode wouldn't change that fact (given i've watched pretty much all episodes anyway, i can safely say that it is, right after NXT, the 2nd-least-needed wrestling show ever).
@@higurashianduminekoconnect1702 i'd go as far to say when W B D cancelled dark and elevation since they weren't getting money from it they just turned rampage into those. or being honest rampage became the new dark, and collision became elevation/dynamite 2.0
Let's be frank. Anything outside of Dynamite and PPV's is completely inessential. Rampage was always a nothing show but it's been particularly sad to see collision go down the same path in recent months.
All AEW needs is Dynamite and Collusion at this point they just need to do more to build up the two brands. Tony Khan also has ROH, another brand him and his team needs to build up better. AEW Shockwave isn't necessary Tony should've pitched for ROH for that spot instead. 🤦♂
@@thatskinnydude301 IMO they actually need LESS storylines. What I mean by that is, now all of the actually good storylines lead to a PPV, and there are no more good matches/storylines on Dynamite or Collision, which makes people tune out of the weekly shows, and in turn losing interest in the PPVs. It's a vicious cycle. Put more focus back on the weekly shows, get people to tune in, and in turn will pay more money on the PPVs. My 2 cents.
Best match I've seen in person was Fenix vs Komander on a Rampage... no real story being told. Just an insanely good lucha match. It was so good Fenix gave Komander his mask afterward.
This channel calls any criticism a bad faith argument. AEW has lost a lot of its audience. Ticket sales and TV ratings used to be a lot better. Now one of their shows has been cancelled. We can debate the cause of AEW's decline but ignoring what is happening is childish.
No one's ignoring what's going on, the problem is with trolls and 'E' shills over-criticizing (and some of it IS in bad faith), and actively hoping AEW dies. Now THAT'S childish 💯
Finally someone is saying it. I criticize AEW heavily because I bought into it on day one. 2 ppvs and a few episodes of Dynamite later and I saw what was gonna happen. I have periodically watched, paid attention to news stories and kept up with ratings. Their viewership has declined consistently year after year. The one guy that really brought ratings was demonized and pushed out by their EVPs. Tons of drama. They have 4 people on their roster that are, or at one point were, considered the best wrestlers in the world and they still can't stop with the constant garbage. It's frustrating because I don't WANT them to fail. It just seems to me that they don't WANT to succeed outside of their niche audience. Then to get told by some of my favorite RU-vid personalities that I should just ignore it if I don't like it, yet they constantly praise it all over every channel I happen to watch. If you love it, fine. However, it should be acknowledged that you are in the minority. That's just fact at this point, and any ignoring of it is willful ignorance......sigh......😅
@@iamthewerebear4837 The issue is this 'I hate AEW, and I want everyone else to hate it too' mentality that's permeated the IWC. If you don't enjoy AEW that's fine, just don't try to ruin it for those that do
@afp445 Fair. Here's the thing. AEW has so much garbage wrestling in it that now has a wider audience than that sort of thing has ever had before. So we are gonna have kids growing up watching Darby Allen doing some wild shit and Hangman stick a syringe in Swerves mouth and getting powerbombed through a cement block and think that's wrestling. Which will pollute the water and soon enough, people are gonna look at wrestling like a freak show and they won't wanna watch it, nor will they respect it. The only ones that will watch are the ones that enjoy that car crash nonsense, and then here we are. I'm not asking for people to hate it. Just for them to be the alternative to WWE they claimed to be, and not just the worst of WWE and indy nonsense with a wider audience.
@@iamthewerebear4837 Maybe to YOU it's garbage, but not to everyone else. If you no longer enjoy it that's cool. That brings me to another issue: people are so oversensitive. I mean folks are STILL complaining about All Out. Move on already!! People getting butthurt about what AEW did on that PPV, when WWE themselves has done questionable things in the past (Foley off the cell, Big Boss Man being hanged, a coffin being dragged away during a funeral for one of Big Show's relatives). You can't be overcritical about one company while giving the other one a pass. It has to be fair and balanced. That's just MY opinion.
The thing with the out runners for me is that they remind me of year, one of AEW. The original philosophy was that AEW was supposed to be a company for everyone. They were going to give you literally a buffet of all forms of wrestling whether it’s a type that you like or not like but there’s gonna be something for everyone. The runners are exactly the point of the existence of AEW. They are a section of wrestling that is just fun to watch, but they don’t make themselves silly about it and that’s why people it’s not the same cookie cutter wrestling you get all the time you get different tastes of wrestling, the smart thing they did was have them on a particular show where they can flourish and it doesn’t necessarily take away from. Let’s say whatever taking on AEW dynamite, dynamite, but they have a place where they can flourish.
And when the original plan was being made for Dynamite in 2019, the chatter was it was going to be a Tuesday show before it got shifted to Wednesday. I wouldn't be surprised if Tony wanted to revisit the Tuesday idea with this new show.
the whole airing of rampage & collision schedules were confusing & ever changing that i gave up watching consistently… oh, rampage is on saturdays now? next week: can’t wait to see rampage on saturday! what? it aired on friday? where’s collision? what’s this sports programme on? where’s wrestling? or… “what’s this movie doing on? where’s rampage/collision?”
Tony probably heard Saturday Night’s Main Event was making a comeback and got cold feet. Let’s be real here…😂 But based on the buzz online, they're just replacing Rampage with another show.
Oh sorry boys my brain kicked in now. I know the perfect description. The out runners or what Saturday nights main event used to be there you go that feeling you would get during Saturday nights main event. That is what the out runners are the fun side of wrestling the goofy fun side of wrestling.
AEW fan here. I'm glad Rampage gets canceled. It never did that much for me anyway and for the past months when it was on, I was more occupied with playing games on my phone. Just random, boring matches all the time. Four hours of AEW programming, including the PPVs, is more than enough for me. There's more in life than watch wrestling all the time.
the problem was that they didnt do a proper brand split, and then they kept putting ROH stuff in. Shockwave or the new show should be a brand split. ROH should be their NXT
If Shockwave is on Fox, it definitely wouldn't be on Sunday. No way is Fox ever moving its animation block. If Omega & Ibushi team, their first opponents would obviously be The Bucks for attacking Omega.
Ultimately I feel like the time slot doomed Rampage it could’ve been booked better sure but even booked to the moon it wouldn’t have succeeded I was hoping after the new tv deal that Rampage might evolve into a tv spot for RoH to be honest it’s a shame it won’t be but excited to see what happens with the announcement of Shockwave… could this have something to do with what Mox meant and referenced in his recent promos ? Maybe a brand split of sorts for the shows? Curious to see how it all plays out.
I don't think 10pm on Friday is a terrible time slot. SmackDown runs 8-10, seems like a good slot if you're trying to get wrestling fans who are already watching wrestling on Fridays. It's more the booking of the show that killed it (remember Punks debut got huge ratings on that show)
Its a double edged sword of a time slot. I know my first exposure to aew was switching channels after smackdown and going, "wow, more wrestling is on", but then after getting my bearings and finding dynamite, rampage became much less of a much watch.
If the rumored new deal is right, No Max Deal and now Rampage. Might as well get rid of ROH while you're at it. I am still curious if "Shockwave" will happen. To be honest, Rampage did nothing for anyone, no one watched it except for the most hardcore of AEW fans, if even that. They had a chance in the past to turn it into something like the show for the women's roster to shine but they never did.
Rampage has been terrible for a long time and can't wait for kenny to return hopefully they make him the tnt champ so he can be the first grand slam champion in aew
Dynamite and collision are the two shows they need to build. They don't need too much padding. The timeslot didn't help either. It started off as an extension to dynamite storyline wise but after a while it became its own thing that did'nt progress anything
@perceivedvelocity9914 unfortunately Roh hadn't got the talent that nxt does Tony Khan throws money at anything and wonders why people hate it The og aew ppv was a good starting point Then they bought in all the ex wwe guys and became tna 2.0
Ikr? While I DO agree that Rampage needs to go the way of the dinosaur there's no need to be pricks about it. That's the IWC for you though: worship everything about WWE and sh!t on anything AEW does
Right. All aew is doing is discontinuing one show and replacing it with another. Not really a big deal.. If you think about it, smackdown having to leave Fox is as big a step backward for wwe as this is. Yet no one citing it as evidence that wwe sucks. Not saying they should be. Just saying that aew gets judged by a different standard.
AEW (All Excuse Wrestling)...Rampage is cancelled but go ahead Andy and Adam...give us some lame excuse to why the show is cancelled 🙄🙄🙄 Because we all know it's due to low ratings and low attendance
But I thought every AEW show was well supported and going to be given an amazing new TV deal...😂 literally cancelling their secondary show, imagine Smackdown getting cancelled? Not a chance! So much for them ratings coming back with a great TV deal 😂
@@twd7572there’s obviously enough ppl caring for them to maintain a TV deal and for them to sell 50,000+ at Wembley. American TV Ratings only tell a very small part of the reality
Fox: We've acquired a wrestling show. Are wrestling show is doing well but we don't want ot anymore. We've lost the most popular wrestling show. We want a wrestling show.
3:02 also they have SO many wrestlers that are sitting around. I would use that to bring back people like Miro and so many great names that could be a epic show
In 2021 rampage was still a show then after 6-7 months it was shit show for most part i hope nothing is replacing it and its just over for good cause 4 hour of aew is alredy enough
