@@LittleWhinkywho cares nobody ever wanted to see them go out and have a 5 star match!! It was about the story and just seeing them 2 in the ring face to face would have been awesome!! I think if they would’ve done the match at 31 it could’ve been decent
Roman's theme is the only Def Rebel song I like, every other Def Rebel theme is create-a-wrestler bad (and the severe lack of pops at the Rumble kinda proves that)
Here's a bit of an odd one: For Rumble matches, while I do appreciate this is the first year that WWE didn't rely on Legends particularly in the Woman's match, I think there should always be at least one inactive Legend in the Rumble. It will help liven up the crowd more especially when the rumble goes on last and is a way to keep engagement up in during the deader parts of the match that happen with it's length. And considering large portions of the roster this year didn't even make the rumble (The entire Alpha Academy for example sand Maxxine, Ciampa, Woods) it's hard to argue losing a spot even if you know the Legend won't win. If it's an option, do it, the show will continue for the current roster who missed out next week.
Although this would be awesome, it’s also risky. Imagine fans were disappointed that it was a certain legend entering and not somebody else, there is a risk of the legend getting a bad/no reaction. With certain wrestlers, that isn’t the end of the world as they can be built up on TV if their heat isn’t what the company want it to be. With a legend having a one off appearance, especially if it was their last appearance, that lack of reaction will always stick in the mind. I would love to see a legend or two in every Royal Rumble, but I can also understand why that might not always be possible
R Truth I'd better at comic relief than Edge and Christian, Mick Foley, Kurt Angle, and John Cena combined and deserves a real title run before his career is over, like a nice us title run.
I’m a WCW guy and definitely not an AEW guy, but even I know it’s not comparable. WCW 2000 is the second worse era in wrestling. The top being the “mystery GM” era in WWE.
The problem with this take is I imagine anyone who thinks AEW (or anything for that matter) was TRULY that bad, they wouldn’t watch it. Therfore, takes like this strike me as people bashing AEW for the sake of bashing AEW, instantly voiding them of any credibility. I use to love AEW. There are still certain stories they do that are amazing. It’s just, personally, for the most part, the rest of the programme is ‘meh’. Not bad, just something I don’t really care about and something I can’t invest in. Basically, the exact same way I found WWE for the last decade or so before Triple H started getting more creative control
Honestly, I think the reason Andrade, Miro and Black have a ceiling on them is because they don’t want to lose matches. They all have a reputation for that, and you can’t be a top guy if you’re not willing to eat a couple of Ls to get there.
They don’t seem to realize all that does is make it that much more complicated to book their character and stories leading to them never having any momentum despite winning all the time
I gotta be honest, in hindsight WCW 2000 is legit the funniest, most entertaining thing to watch. It’s so shite, it goes full circle and becomes good LMAO.
Bray Wyatt is the only person who should have beaten the Undertaker’s streak. Brock didn’t need that win. He was already a household name when he beat the streak. Save the streak another year or two and let the Wyatt Family get a huge bump from Bray getting that win.
I always knew I liked you guys, even back when I was a kid listening to y'all's voices on the Machinima channels. When I rediscovered you guys as a professional wrestling channel, I liked y'all even more. After hearing your take on the McGriddle, I now know why I love you guys. I still long for the days when Mickey D's actually offered a dollar menu McGriddle that was just the pancakes with the sausage patty in the center.
Here's a hot take: Jey Uso isn't really a main eventer. Roman Reigns got him there with three matches and if it wasn't for Cody Rhodes he wouldn't still be in the main event picture. For example, last night he faced Bronson Reed halfway through Raw.
I would say the whopper is a little better than the big mac, but they are close. The best fast food burger I have had is from a place called Steak n Shake, they make steakburgers from ground steak, and they are smashed real thin, I usually get a double, or a triple, and what makes them so good, other than the steak, is when they smash them down so thin the edges of the steakburger get crispy.
A clip of the WCW episode where Vince Russo announced it was “New York rules” and the wrestlers would make their own counts made the rounds on my instagram…AEW is nowhere near as bad as WCW in 2000
@@omegamark9178 WWE has themed matches and weird sponsor tie ins with their matches all the time. Bray Wyatt's Mountain Dew blackout match or The Survivor Series match from a few years where they had a Pizza Hut spots (or the countless other matches that have some weird corporate tie in). Both companies do it; if you're gonna shit on one, shit on the other as well.
Hot take, wrestlers should retire younger more often. Seeing wrestlers who are way past there prime try in the ring is just sad. Stop destroying your legacy and have one final blow off match.
If an over the hill wrestler is helping the next generation I'm all for it. If an old wrestler uses the next generation to stay relevant they need to retire. (Cough, cough, Jericho)
Here's my hot take. The AEW diehards are sick of Chris Jericho. They are looking for a reason to cancel him. They don't care if the rumors are true or not. They are looking for anything that can be used to get Jericho out of AEW.
Wrestling has a double standard in the fact that big guys often get lambasted for limited move sets and repetitive/predictable matches. A ton of smaller guys also wrestle repetitive styles (Darby, OC) yet don’t cop the same criticism. One of the reasons why Brian danielson is so beloved is his versatility and the variety of styles of matches he has. In short lack of variety makes you boring no matter what size you are.
I agree with Christian01, the 2022 Royal Rumble had 23 women and 25 men were announced ahead of time which means I could only be excited for 7 and 5 spots respectively.
Ill die on the hill that The New Generation.....wasnt that bad Sure business was down, attending had dropped off and there was complete disarray We had Shawns rumble win, bret vs diesel book ending the main event scene in Jan and November, Bret Bulldog 2 being a Bloodbath, Razor Shawn 2, and of course the Wild Card Match which was so much fun at Survivor series, 123 kid was doing his heel turn as well and Hakushi was killing the opening matches
NG was WWF under construction. That new class was prolly the greatest class of all time, they were just stuck in the middle of an 80s hangover. You had to weed thru a bunch of Doink the Clown shenanigans and screwy McMahon-esque booking to get to a good Bret vs Diesel match.
The problem with AEW right now is 85 % of the time, they just throw random matches for no reason. Some title matches that happen for no rhyme or reason and the excessive ROH presence has really hurt the show. TK doesn't need to put on 6 matches per episode, when matches mean nothing. Just give us 3-4 matches, and just give us more in ring promos and segments. Make ROH its own thing on another week like NXT.
Roman not being there as often has given me a Pavlovian response to his theme. When I hear it on tv I think “oh dang, something serious is going to happen”
Hot take: WCW 2000 wasn't that bad. I mean the Judy Bagwell thing was terrible and the two Italian guys sucked. But it's very entertaining segment by segment on a rewatch when compared to today. Honestly, I've seen all the good in-ring matches I ever need to see by this point, and would prefer to see more episodic shit-show storylines. I'm not terribly thrilled seeing wrestlers almost kill themselves before one inevitably does, and that seems like the eventual escalation as far as modern in-ring wrestling goes.
Cena tapped out 4 times: vs Chris Jericho (SmackDown, 2002) vs Chris Benoit (SmackDown - December 2003) vs Kurt Angle (No Mercy 2003 and No Way Out 2004)
@@kingryanidas17 he’s kinda right, a lot of people did jump on the bandwagon of hate and couldn’t logically break down why it’s bad. We may have valid reasons as to why it’s bad; unfortunately I don’t think everyone who doesn’t like it could.
That Raw match they had when Punk was trying to get to WrestleMania where he busted out a proper sit out piledriver on Cena is probably my favourite of their encounters.
John Cena is WWE's most successful historical revision project. (WWE frames Cena as having been more popular in the past than he was, so that's how many people remember it now.)
I understand that Ticket Sales week to week are near a WCW 2000 level but overall I don’t think it’s THAT BAD. I do think it can get that bad if Tk doesn’t work on the product, atp it just doesn’t interest me and after Worlds End I haven’t felt like watching the weekly tv because it’s just not compelling.
Hot Take: the Four Horsewomen match will never happen at Mania, give it up already, WWE missed their chance, just like having Shield Threeway in Mania and having Bryan vs Angle
Maybe this is just because i grew up in the era but HD/PG/Post Benoit era WWE is not that bad and i think will age a lot better than most of the attitude era
Steve is such a smart guy. I say this because he said Roman's theme gives him Succession vibes, and this is something I've been saying for a while. There's no better way to make me think you're smart than to agree with me.
My hot take; AEW is the same quality as it's always been. There was just a lot of hype for having a new major company in the wrestling world of the USA and once the new wore off everyone started noticing all the flaws.
Agree mostly, I think it’s less about noticing flaws(I feel like people could see most of them from the beginning, and more people not actually wanting an alternative, rather they just wanted WWE to get better. AEW could be the most in-debatably greatest product on earth, but it’s not gonna replace memories/biases people already had.
1992-1997 WWF/E has a reputation for bad wrestling but I would argue, that half-decade has better wrestling overall than 1998-2003 - Savage, Million Dollar Man, Mr Perfect, Ricky Steamboat, Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Owen Hart, 123 Kid, Bulldog, Double J, Goldust, Rick Martell etc. Even Razor could go when he needed to - Compare that to the constant hardcore trash matches of the Attitude Era and it's no contest. I stopped watching in 1998 because I thought the wrestling sucked and I didn't come back until I started hearing about "The Smackdown 6" bringing in-ring quality back to the product.
Hot Take: Joshi (Japanese women’s wrestling) is and has always had the best women’s wrestling in the world. Not to take anything away at all from great talents in WWE, AEW, and TNA (especially with Awesome Kong vs. Gail Kim), but Joshi has always had tougher, meaner more athletic, and more unique talents today and throughout history. Also, the fact those companies have signed Joshi talents says a lot about the talent from Japan.
A veteran putting over a younger wrestler hardly ever does much for pushing up and coming talent. It's always more impactful when a newer wrestler puts on a great performance and comes close against a vet rather than getting an unexpected win. Grayson Waller looked a lot stronger losing and getting a rub from Edge than Solo Sikoa or Austin Theory did winning against John Cena
Im glad to have found a channel that has my same love for the Mcgriddle as you guys do. It is THE best breakfast sandwich that has ever been created. Dare I say inspired by the gods of breakfast food.
Anyone who thinks AEW is anywhere near as bad as WCW was in 2000 never lived through WCW in 2000. I was 17 and I typed out 2 full pages of suggestions and critiques to send to WCW. I never ended up sending it because every time I watched it would be so different from the week before that half my notes were outdated. Also there would be even more items to add. Wins, losses, wrestlers, stories, championships, characters, nothing mattered. No matter how bad you think AEW/WWE/TNA/NJPW is right now, WCW was 1000 times worse.
I feel like the problem with Black is less that they complained is that they seem unwilling to job. Like compare the amount of singles matches Black has compared to the rest of the HoB. And the change of the cage match stipulation on collision from elimination to escape even thou AEW had never done escape rules to that point. Is Malackai more talented than being a Trios guy? Yes but hes not letting him self be more than that. Hell Swerve is one of the hottest guys in the company and he spent the summer jobbing to Darby and Sting before going into the Oage fued. Being able to "do business" and job shows you can be trusted with higher profile fueds and position.
Smokey Mountain Wrestling alongside the World Wrestling Network could have helped the NWA get to the level of credibility that was had in NWA: TNA by the turn of the millennium with the extra help of NWA Wildside who would join in 1999.
I was thinking about it, if a young male wrestler goes through to the top of NXT, their ceiling is likely to be mid card title. If they go through TNA, AEW or NJPW and make it to the top before going to WWE, their ceiling is world title picture
Here’s a hot take for you: the pipe bomb is the most overrated promo of all time. The only compelling aspect is that it breaks the 4th wall and mentions backstage issues, and that maniac Scott Steiner had been doing that for years
Definitely don't agree with the Malakai Black/Miro one. AEW isn't featuring them not because they've complained...the reason is 2 fold. 1. The point Steve and Larson made...they don't seem all in. And 2. Neither want to look at the lights every now and then. Got reported that Malakai ain't tryna job and Miro turned down the tournament because he'd have to look at the lights more than once PLUS his wife is doing interviews where she's saying "everyone goes back to WWE at some point"?...I wouldn't feature their asses either. Oh and the "AEW is worse than WCW was in 2000" take? I was there for this and if whoever said that was? When dynamite comes on? Watch WCW nitro in 2000 instead. Youll change your mind by week 2.
Everything that Seth Rollins was given post Wrestlemania 35 should have been Finn Balor. I don't believe the crowd would have turned against him as bad as they did Seth and it would have made for a much better Universal Title Run
AEW Has Nothing On WCW 2000. WCW 2000 Was Incomparable To AEW And Today's WWE. WCW Ratings Were Double, Triple, Quadruple, Quintuple AEW And Double/Triple WWE's. WCW Had A Talented Stacked Roster. Plus They Always Put Creative Effort Into The Shows.
On the subject of Roman's theme, I feel like the song is let down by choices of instrumentation and production. Non synthesized orchestral elements would make it feel as grand as it's supposed to.
You guys logically explained so well why Cody is a maineventer but you’ll still get closed minded people and I picture them going super crosseyed with a goofy expression on their face saying “Cody is a midcarder”. I cannot and will not ever take closed minded marks seriously. They’re definitely not fans, If they were they wouldn’t lie to themselves all cross eyed saying “cOdY iS A mIdCaRdEr..dEeEeEeRrRrR..iM aN uNeDuCaTeD rEtArD…DEERRRR”
Jey Uso should be the one to challenge and beat GUNTHER for the IC Title at Mania. I know people want him to hold it and drop it to Ilja cause "OMG NXT BLACK & GOLD and NXT UK!!", even though only 17 people were watching that show, but people on the main roster don't know Ilja like that and having this guy come from out of nowhere and beat GUNTHER would be odd. Meanwhile, people are invested in Jey Uso, he's over with the main audience, and honestly should be featured in an actual high profile match instead of trying to elevate Jimmy with a Brother vs Brother match.
Nah, have Jey beat Gunther before mania for the title but have Gunther face Rollins for the title and Jey goes into mania as champ against Jimmy. Title isn’t on the line though because they’re on different brands. Jey and Jimmy themselves want to face each other at mania, they’re not gonna take that away from them when they’ve already set it up
