One that usually trips me up is when to use past/passed. For some reason I stumble on it each time, but I’m fine with other things like affect/effect etc.
Also, affect in psychology, is the underlying experience of feeling, emotion, attachment, or mood and is pronounced with emphasis on the first syllable. “Affect” in this context is pronounced with the “a” as it is pronounced in “apple.”
I applaud you to cover this topic. I just can’t squeeze the differences into my skull 😢 I think we need to axe one and use the other for all situations. 😅
It's SIMPLE. "Affect" is a VERB. "Effect" is a NOUN. One thing AFFECTS another thing by causing an EFFECT. There, I just affected you. The effect of it was to save you 4 minutes by laying it out in simple terms.
