Students with the intellect to excel and the selflessness to care should have the opportunity to lead. Through generous need-based aid and our renowned merit-based Johnson Scholarship, we aim to make our first-rate education accessible to the broadest group of applicants.
Washington and Lee provides grants and campus employment to more than 58% of students, with an average need-based aid award of $57,464. Our financial aid packages cover 100% of demonstrated family need and do not include loans.
The Johnson Scholarship awards full-tuition, room, board, and summer funding in recognition of the need for civic leaders in a global and diverse society. The scholarship empowers motivated students to devote their talent and attention to the pursuit of their passions unencumbered by financial concerns.
Scholarships are awarded to up to 44 incoming students each year (roughly 10% of the first-year class) and are valued at more than $80,000 per year.
