What is your favorite everyday micro four thirds lens? Would you be interested in this YongNuo 12-35? And what lens would you suggest Yongnuo to create?
@glsracer
@glsracer Год назад
My favorite zooms are the PL 12-60 f/2.8-4, 12-32 f/3.5-5.6, and PL 10-25 f/1.7. I also have the Lumix 12-60 and use it in place of the 12-32 on my GX85 when I need more range but not much more size. The other two lenses are typically used on my G9 and G95 only. I think Yongnuo should make a 12-50 f/2 (yes I know it will be big). If they can get it under 1000 USD and sharp wide open then it would sell like hot cakes.

Exciting that Yongnuo was able to produce a semi-pro standard zoom like this, with a good price and solid image quality. There aren’t a ton of new designs in dedicated μ43 lenses being made, and having another manufacturer making new products and giving people more options can only be a good thing.

Chris, yes most of the new "micro four thirds" lenses are APSC lens with different mount. So it's definitely great to see some dedicated lens designed for the system to take advantage of the smaller size..etc

Nice review Richard. Good first go at an AF zoom lens from YongNuo. I won’t be getting it though as I own the PL 12-60 f2.8-4.0. But that’s a in different price range

Thanks @Red Frame Tech, yes agree if you already have the Panasonic-Leica 12-60, then not much point getting this lens.

Olympus 12-200. (and Panasonic 20 1.7 pancake for low light and low weight + 7Artisan 7.5 2.8 for panoramas). No need for 12-35 2.8-4. I suggest for Yongnuo an affordable 75 1.8 (Olympus one is expensive).

I LOVE the Olympus 75 1.8! And definitely agree with you, love to see an affordable alternative

It is always depend on price. For 450 USD no way it will become popular. This is close to the price of used Oly 12-40/2.8

I'm excited to hear Yongnuo produced more AF M43 lenses. But, at $550 on B&H iy is a bit of a tough sell, especially when you can get the PanaLeica 12-60mm f2.8-4.0 used for $500 on KEH.

Thanks for the thorough and balanced review as usual. I think Yongnuo did a solid good job for their first zoom AF lens. Could be a good choice i f you don't want to buy second hand lens, Looking forward to see more lenses from them!

Thanks Kenneth! There are certainly areas they can improve , but i think they did a pretty good job overall.

"The Lumix is sharper" - thank you. Visible softness is a no go!

Great video as usual but I just wonder why you didn't use the Pana 12-35 F2.8 or the Olympus 12-40 F2.8 for the comparison? I think that the Yongnuo's target when they released this lens.
@TheRealRichardWong
@TheRealRichardWong Год назад
Good question! One big reason is I don't have access to any of these lenses

Are there more Chinese lenses in the m43 system? Didn’t know that YongNuo was in the m43 ecosystem. Great review covering all aspect comparing the Panasonic. The lens is good for cheap still oriented lens.

Yes Laowa and TTArtisan are also official m43 group members. Laowa has created a few manual focus lenses with electronic support. I'm waiting to see what TTArtisan may do in the future!

This is a very big lens for mft! In this size it should - at least - be constant aperture. I love the fact that it is internal focusing and zooming! If it was constant aperture or/and smaller it would be a perfect lens i.m.o
@TheRealRichardWong

Yongnuo is still new when it comes to designing a zoom lens, but a few things like internal focus/zoom does make the lens bigger than external zoom/focus. I think it's good idea for us to give constructive feedback to them and tell them what we like/don't like and help them improve :)

I never found this lense or the lumix version desirable. 4.0 on the long end and only 35mm. I bought the olympus pro 2.0 12-40 which is better in any way.

As always, excellent video. I have a question: is there a way to use Panasonic full frame lenses on micro fourth thirds cameras? Maybe an adapter?
@TheRealRichardWong
@TheRealRichardWong Год назад
Thank you Mario. No, at least i'm not aware of. The flange distance of micro four thirds and L-mount is too close (only 0.75mm) it is technically very hard to create such an adaptor, especially if you want one that can support autofocus. In general it is very hard to adapt a mirrorless lens on another mirrorless mount. The only one i'm aware of is Sony E to Nikon Z adaptor

@@TheRealRichardWong There is a micro four thirds to Sony E adapter, but it has no electrical contacts and only works with manual, mechanical micro four thirds lenses.
