Regarding glued-on mirror panel removal: There is a type of super-sticky thick and stretchy cling film like product that's used by moving companies, as well as in the automotive industry (called "Crash Wrap"), and covering a panel mirror in two layers of that prior to removal is much, MUCH safer than painter's tape. If the mirror breaks, it will hold everything together, where painter's tape will fold, buckle and tear, allowing glass shards to potentially injure you. Hope this helps!

Your skin is looking lovely, but yes, a shower head update is needed for most if not all rentals. I upgraded to a nice detachable head, and it was a game changer.

Re-painting before new tenants used to be more common in the U.S., but I think it was more just the expectation of renters in a competitive market of small landlords. But now big companies own everything and do nothing but collect checks and maybe fix faucets and a few things. Consumers really have almost no legal rights - and when they do, it is up to them to get a lawyer and sue.

Thanks for the rental tips, they are super helpful! Speaking of smart plugs, you can also get plug in dimmers now, to adapt any plug in lamp. Changed my space so much for the better!

Loved the first suggestion but…..where do you find these beautiful outlet covers and light switches? I am in Canada and find it super difficult to source interesting decor, fixtures and anything unique.

I am moving in to a rental house in next month 😍 i have watet 3 years for this, and i am so excited, i take all good advise in. I have follow you for some time now. Thank you.. Ps i can paint where ever i want in the new house, i can also make a new kitchen, i just have to pay for my self. So i thinking doing it 5 years from now. I want to paint every room. And i have a good idea of what color i want... But not in my living room 🤦🏼‍♀️ i can not deside it yet.

The "no painting in the rental" rule is f*&king absurd. I always paint it, if I want to, but there are two caveats here: I'll repaint IF I know (or think) I will be in the apartment for a good long while; if I know it's going to be just a few months or only for one year, then, no, I don't paint; and I am prepared to write off the deposit to get the space I want but I totally understand that most people don't want to, or can't, do that, and, again, I'll paint only if I think I'm going to be there for a few years. Usually I make a deal--and it's worked all but once--that I'll just repaint the apartment whatever color the landlord wants when I move out. That's even more $$$ gone but it's worth it to me for my space to be MY space, even if it's a rental.

Please more tips for rentals. After leaving an abusive marriage that left me homeless and broke I’m in rented social housing indefinitely. Lucky to have it but we have to have carpet above ground floor level, the open plan design is just very weirdly done, the window is an L shape and the kitchen counter designed for dining at, faces the kitchen sink. No window in bathroom or kitchen. All advice and ideas appreciated.

You can buy. It’s just that people THINK their first home has to have a pool.3 car garage. Granite. Designer floors etc. you start out small…. My first house had no kitchen cabinets or AC/heat. I won’t tell you about my new house. Lol. Everyone sees what the Jones’s have and think they have to beat that… Start SMALL!

USA rentals (unless the landlord is very casual) usually would never allow any of the listed changes in the video. That's because people are stupid. Renters would electrocute themselves by fooling with outlets -- and guess who pays the family a judgement, yeah, the landlord. Same with changing your lights out, you fall off a ladder, landlord is liable. You get the existing ceiling light unscrewed and then it crashes onto your head -- landlord is responsible. In the US stupidity is compensable. Can't paint walls, can't changes outlets or ceiling lights or vent covers, nothing built in or attached to the residence can be changed. But then, have you seen the mess some people will make painting? Ouch. Renters, if they could, would tear up the tile floor to replace it, (cause its not their favorite color), then decide its too much work and too expensive and just move out. Honestly, Americans can be mean. I have to call the maintenance man to have light bulbs changed or have the air conditioner put in or taken out of the window. Which I appreciate as this grandma would absolutely injure myself! lol. But your advise is very helpful in seeing all that can be done; furniture arrangement, styles and colors of furniture, window treatments, and realizing that decorative items make a much stronger statement than we realize. You've opened up a whole new world for me and I find it all quite fascinating -- thank you!
