Affric Kintail Way Scotland with the X-Mid 2

Spending three days walking the Affric Kintail Way in the Scottish Highlands in March. The trail is a fantastic trail for any first time hikers with some amazing highland settings. On the hike I was using the X-Mid2 for the first time and I was testing out some other equipment before our attempt at the Cape Wrath Trail in May.

Wonderful video as ever, loved the drone footage at the end. I always live watching videos of the Affric Kintail Way. Three years ago me and my dad rented a cottage in Cannich and used it as our base for some walking. We ate in the Slaters Arms every evening, can highly recommend. My first two Munro’s were Tom a Choinich and Toll Creagach, and the full circular around Loch Affric was one of the best walks I’ve ever done. Cheers Dave, yeh it was worth the drive found out a lot about my kit and its not a trail that will destroy you. I love Kintail if I win the lottery I'm moving up there! 👍

Another excellent adventure and video Al. I really enjoyed the journey. As you say, it looks a great little walk. Ideal as a training hike as you have used it for. Amazing, moody cinematography and drone work. Loved it. John.

Thanks John! Was working on the video quality for the CWT when we do it. Decided that the gopro is finnished in any future vlogs. Good we walk that. ATB 👍

@greyhikes5236 I've been thinking the same about video. I picked up a Sony ZV-E10 a couple of months back. I will still carry a gopro for wet conditions though. I noticed you carrying a new camera on your strap.

@thunder_roaming Yeh it's a ZV-E10 also with a sigma 16mm 1.4 lens. Yes your right I'm carrying the gopro as a backup but we're getting Sandi ZV-E10 also so we cover all our bases. We're looking at the dji osmo but I'm not to keen on the quality of image on some of the channels I watch.

Thanks for the video im planning on doing it at end of the month but starting at cannich so will be good to study you're adventure for wild camping spots

I think it's a good place to start as the woodland and road bit aren't that interesting. Plenty places after dog falls and around Loch Affric after that can get a bit tight and wet depending on the weather 👍

Nice trail and amazing scenery, hope I go to Scotland one day! And this video is one of not many showing Durston tent in real use, so I wonder does it sag when wet? They claim it’s sagless.

Hi Ed, I've just finished 16 days in the xmid2 and had several days of rain I didn't experience any sagging. It's a Cylpolly material which isn't supposed to sag but Cylnylon definitely does sag. Hope this helps. 👍

@@greyhikes5236thanks for sharing the experience. Im thinking of getting xmid1 solid and no sag feature of PE is quite nice, aslo not sure if it will work on not ideally even and tight spots. Good luck on trails.

It's an osprey atmos 65 lt, it's really comfortable for me but it has ripped twice on me. 👍

Very nice video 🤗 Which is easier to set up X Mid or Asta Gear tent?! I have trouble pitching up if the ground isn't completely flat!?

I think both are difficult when the ground isn't flat. You lose a bit of space in the porches on occasion. Will have a video with a bit of a hybrid solution up this week 😉

Enjoyed that one thanks. Couple of queries - I see you’ve changed your pack from the Rook 65 to something else - which one are you using now? Second, can I ask where you parked at the end of this trail ? Thanks , shaun

Hi Shaun, Im using the Atmos LT 65. No difference in weight but a lot better around the waist and it has an access size zip for getting the tent out. I parked at the junction of the turning for the craft shop. There is an old dealict building and what looks like a vacant building at the junction which has an area behind it. No signs to say you can't park there also don't wait at the bus stop you have to stand on the junction of next to the ballad or they won't stop 👍

Weather was excellent , waterproofs on for 30 minutes on day 1, rained and hail stones through the second night but tent was great , just waited for sunrise and everything was dry by 9.15. Cold and sunny day 3 - couldn’t have asked for better. When you off on the S N Trail?
