I heard the story from my uncle he was a SF Operator....... His parent regiment was 24 Punjab ......He was a Major but returned home safely but my Father didn't ....... Later I heard he lost his life in the battle of Dhaka, Bangladesh ......I heard from my uncle , A company soldiers of 24th Punjab & a platoon of Border Security Forces was posted in a strategic BOP of Langanwala near the Jodhpur Airbase which was the main target of the Enemy troops in 1971....There were a company of 24th Punjab & a platoon of Border Security Force commanded by then Major Kuldip Sing who later retired as a Brigadier but suddenly our RAW & Military Intelligence reported some troop movements including Patton Tanks which was the best Tank at that time near Langanwala BOP BCOZ Pakistan wanted a preemptive strike in the Western Section or capture Jodhpur Airbase with a total Brigade of Armored Tanks along with 2400 Infantry led by a Brigadier Tarikh Mir ....... We were taught in National Defense Academy & IMA about the tactical decisions of taken by then Major Kuldip Sing Sab .......At 1971 we didn't have much interceptors like MIG 21 but we had enough ground attack Hunters Bombers.... But those Hunters could not fly at night ..... The GHQ ordered Major Kuldip Singh to withdrew & set uo another defensive positions at the Airbase... .. Kuldip Sing sab told our predecessors & he even requested the Central Armed Police members of BSF platoon can withdraw but the BSF commander refused to leave. Major sab knew we should delay their advance & made a trench in different positions.. At time there were no Javelin or any other kind of ATGM ..... At that time Indian Army used RCL (Recoil less Guns mounted in Jeeps ....... He posted those jeeps mounted with recoil-less guns through 2 Sq kms and he had only three anti tank mines ..... Kuldip Singh sab knew he got to stop the Pakistani Brigade till 5 AM so he kept the 3 anti tank mines in the way of the Tank formation and he used Tiffin Boxes throughout the Tank formation when two paki tanks were destroyed Brigadier Tarik Sab called the engineers to clean up the mines everything was going at night & the engineers & that time there were no night vision glasses so whenever the engineers tried to watch properly by using torches but whenever they switch on their lights we could watch their positions & the BSF QRT Platoon opened GPMGs ( Heavy Machine Guns ) and our snipers take them down, so they dig the places without light where normal tiffin-boxes containing iron spare parts of a Patton TANK which was destroyed just a less than fifteen meter from the Indian Positions and the tactical surprise of the 24 Punjab company commander belated the Pakistani Brigade for 6 hrs.... but by then Brigadier Tarikh Mir understood our Company Commander Kuldip Singh's tricks the Pakistani Brigadier & ordered his Tanks to open fire at the BSF positions who were firing GPMGs at the Pak infantry but by then The 24th Punjab took up position throughout a radius of 4 Kms. So they opened fire on the Langanwala BOP & destroyed the BOP & 24th punjab troops almost encircled the Pakistani Brigade & opened fire on the Pak Infantrymen & by then at around 5-30 am our hunters appeared & just destroyed the Tanks & our the ghatak Platoon of 24 th punjab finished off the Pak Infantry ...... It's a true story that only a company of Army Infantry including a platoon of BSF which is an arm of Central Armed Police Forces kicked out a armored brigade of Pakistan .......
