Follow the language. There are 2 main languages in Afghanistan - Pashto and Persian (Dari). whenever you hear complains in the documentary - their main language is Persian. whoever praises Taliban - they speak Pashtu. This is what missing in this documentary. To understand the conflict, you need to go back in history and understand how these 2 factions came to be. My father is Pashtun and tells me all the stories about the reality of the situation which is absent in almost all documentaries available to date... in short, these 2 factions will never see a mutual ground until one control's the other.

Shake your head side to side means yes in these regions, like in Pakistan, Bangladesh and India, it took me nearly a year to get used to that when I worked there.
Any multi-ethnic country of the world, have union issues. Afghanistan must be divided in small 6 countries, with or without pakistan agreement. Pashtuns dont have their own country, so, they take all recognized afghanistan country to themselves. Pakistan dont want to give freedom to their inside pashtuns.

It would make sense that persieved bias towards their ethnicity would radicalize them, and when they gain power it also makes sense that they would be biased themselves towards people of Pashtun decent

These documentaries help me put things into perspective, what they are going through, not only since the Taliban takeover but also when these Western countries were there is something I will never begin to understand. I need to complain less, be more grateful.
They aren’t grateful though. It’s sad in 20 years they didn’t want to listen and do better thinking US and NATO was going to be there forever. I was one of the last to leave. Afghans that worked for me still writing me trying to leave. I only helped those that worked hard and I know they would work hard in the states. After 20 years of giving them money they have nothing to show for it. Training wasted for nothing. Sorry my rant is over.

One visual detail I notice about these “new taliban” fighters vs. the old clips we used to see, their trigger discipline. It is such a small/minute detail and discipline that could be easily overlooked. But that in itself means that they have some sort of legitimate training to some degree now.
Many joined the Afghan National Army and received training from the US. They then either committed blue on green attacks, deserted, or became a Talib after Afghanistan fell.
A little scary to see... I doubt there will ever be peace with he Taliban in control... People aren't a fan of being surpressed due to gender or any other reason. Especially sinse the Afghan people had a taste.
Good documentary. But while watching this I was always on the edge thinking about how easy it will be for them to watch this documentary and identify people from it....
I think they did a better job than many of these documentaries with the identity protection. they mostly showed individuals who very deliberately decided to be on camera, and I think therefular people just moderately speaking theirminda will be ok. the taliban are not strictly forcing people to pretend that everything is fine. if the taliban give journalists permission to film, I don't think that they will then punish people merely for talking to the journalists.

This is a foreign culture that is vastly different from ours. The Taliban were supported by the people of the land. Watching a history of the country, the different groups who have ruled Afghanistan are in the number 20+ range. I was trying to understand who the "real" or "first" Afghans were. Depends on who you ask I'm afraid.
I've seen documentaries talk about Afghanistan's borders being a construct of westerners with artificial boundaries that group together people who have almost nothing in common except religion. I'm not sure what the truth is but they speak multiple languages and have very different customs depending where you go.
