We always mock people for having their phones out during a show; but thanks to this dude I just got to watch AFI perform somewhere I wasn’t able to get to myself. Thank you, sir 🫡

I do still enjoy seeing them live, but '01/'02 AFI put on some of the most memorable live shows I've ever been to. Blows this out of the water, no question. The energy was unreal. Helped that they were playing mostly stuff from Shut Your Mouth-Art of Drowning. Wish they would play more of the classic Nitro stuff at shows like this
Saw them at Fireside shortly before releasing Shut Your Mouth. And in '02 at the Metro with Rise Against and Death by Stereo, then twice that year at Warped as well (pretty sure it was '02, possibly '01 though)
That shit was so cool. I absolutely loved the praise he gave to The Cure and what he said about Robert Smith. It was touching to be there and hear that from him.
Yeah a lot of their songs, especially since Sing the Sorrow, could easily be from The Cure. And the entire Burials album... that album is a secret the Cure tribute.
AFI is still top of the list for me. The only band I would consider traveling out of state for. Thank you AFI for being amazing, and thank you Geoffrey for the excellent upload 👍🏽❤️
45:48 days of the phoenix holy shit that pause and breakdown is one of a kind!! What an absolutely insane concert. AFI are the best band ever to see live. Unbelievable performance here. Fan since the late 90s!!
for a while there it was pretty jarring to hear him sing particularly the pre 2006 stuff after his surgery. but it really sounds like he's starting to get control back of his voice and he's much closer to the original register of AFI's sing the sorrow/decenberunderground era. great to hear.
Wow, they actually sound better after all these years. The playing sounds more crisp than ever. Davey's voice gained a depth that makes him sound more like an opera singer, now more than ever. Absolute perfection. 🤟🤟🤟
Thank you for recording their entire set. I captured some still photos from the right side of the stage, but stopped trying when I started singing. Thank you. 🖤
he's an alright guitarist at best...this is super simple stuff and he is still making plenty of mistakes. This genre of music can easily be played by beginners.
AFI was my favorite band before I discovered APC. I had the pleasure of catching them at When We Were Young Festival last fall and then again in Philly like a few weeks later. It was lovely watching Davey perform in a room of like 2,500 people! 🤘
A Perfect Circle and A Fire Inside had a similar vibe when Mer de Noms and Sing the Sorrow came out. Both Davey and Maynard had the long hair. Actually, when Davey was recording Sing the Sorrow.. He has a poster of Maynard as an influence. 2 of my favorite bands.
This is great quality! I love how much of a performance they still put on -- feels like I'm watching them back in high school, only with a lot more discography (feels like I'm the only one who actually wants to let them grow up too but, y'know, people have preferences). Also Davey's voice is aging WELL (not unlike everyone in the band, lol). Looks like he's waging war with the sound in the beginning but he sounds great.
I first saw this in 2008 and this completely exposed me to AFI, one of my favorite bands of all time. Years later in 2014 I finally went back and found “The Anime from God Called In Sick Today”. I’ve been watching anime since elementary school and Evangelion blew my mind. This one video was so influential giving me my favorite series and a top 5 favorite band.
God teach my work love, NY, and sound. Amen. God give us love and give us love and give us love and give us love and give us love and give us love and give us love and give us love and give us love and give us love and give us love and give us love. Amen. God bless and keep up business running and keep it real and keep it real and keep it real. Amen.
The growl in the middle section of Miss Murder was so raw, different and flat out animalistic, it gave me the chills. Davey (and AFI) still are just amazing!
52:48 - I swear that Davey was pointing right at me and saw the World/Inferno Friendship Society shirt I was wearing. Please tell me he's an Infernite...RIP Cloth
I know there's been different era's of AFI and some like certain eras better then other, but AFI's underground music from Nitro records was just as awesome as the stuff they put out with mainstream Interscope. For me, AFI is one of those bands that I like almost every era of the band. Personally I didnt get into them until around summer of 03/04 during the era when Davey looked like a chick lol. I kept seeing their music video for Leaving song pt II on Mtv2. Before youtube and when Mtv2 actually just played non stop videos and thats how I discovered new music or bands back then.. so I'd just leave mtv2 on in the background while playing the sims house party and I swear every like 15 minutes that video was being played on. Sing the Sorrow came out that year, so after seeing the video for leaving song for the hundredth time lol I bought the album. From there on I was completely hooked on the band from Freshman year to Jr year 03-06. When I hear songs like Girls not Grey, or anything from Sing the Sorrow, floods me with so many emotions and memories from that period of my life its crazy lol.
Couldn't agree with this comment any more. I think I am just a couple years older thank you, but Sing the Sorrow was the first album that I got into of AFI's and it is such a special album for me.
I went to ACL a few years back and one of the days while we were walking around waiting for the next band we wanted to see we could hear AFI blasting in the distance and sure enough they were performing to a shockingly small crowd but sounded fucking awesome! Out of that whole weekend they were easily one of the best sounding and most fun performances of the weekend. As cool as it is to see the “superstar” bands, that was such an incredibly sick surprise to walk up on lol
Saw them at Warped tour many years ago...was pleasantly surprised, not being a true fan but loving the performance I saw...great energy and crowd. One I will never forget...🦇
God bless and God bless. Amen. God bless and keep the party rocking and God bless and keep the party real. Amen. God bless and keep the family together and keep the family real. Amen.
He’s going black out like a lot of people are these days. I think they think it’s a “cool” way to cover up ones they grew out of lol. Ronnie from Falling in Reverse is another example that comes to mind.
I'm the same generation as these guys to be able to put that much energy out in their mid 40s is just insane. I'm gased just watching these cats. Enjoy your youth kids it goes by to damn fast feels like yesterday I was jumping around in a pit now I gotta make sure my knee doesn't pop out hahaha
The stage hand sure enjoys repositioning his microphone and stand...i found that comical haha They sound great.. and like other people have mentioned Jade is seriously a underrated guitarist.. the whole band is.
