AFI - Live at Hard Rock Cafe 2003 FULL CONCERT 00:40 - Miseria Cantare - The Beginning 3:23 - The Leaving Song Pt. 2 07:52 - Silver And Cold 11:42 - The Days Of The Phoenix 16:48 - Girls Not Grey
When I was an awkward and unhappy 14-year-old and just starting to explore AFI and their unfamiliar but mesmerizing music, I used to go to the library across the street from my school specifically to use their computers to find clips and pictures from this show. I had a really tough time as a teen, but finding and loving AFI was one of the few things that kept me believing in art and in life. I wish I could have experienced this show live.
If you were going to pick one show to time travel back to see, this is an excellent choice. I've been obsessed with this show for 20 years. I now go back and watch it with my kids
@@aaroncampos3798 I've liked this band since 2000. They still put out great music. Alot different then it used to be but still good in a different way
This is what peak performance looks like. Everyone at the top of their game just destroying this show live. One of my favorite albums of all time every song is literally a gem.
Epic performance. I especially love Miseria Cantare here, it gives me chills to see Davey commanding them to sing, and they do, with all their hearts. Fantastic.
The only thing to do was watch the band that's actually in front of you, with no temptation to start filming or taking pictures or posting it on social media instantly.
I was 13 when I saw it for the first time. Rebel time at school and a lot emotions to deal with. Shouting together with Davey was the cure. I'm 32 now and still feel the power
I'll never forget the first time I saw this concert very late at night feeling alone. They were so captivating. Davey was fire and flames here. Long live AFI. The first step to the last step of my musical genre journey.
It all started when a friend left a copy of Sing The Sorrow at my band's practice spot. Now, I didn't listen to it right away until later that week I heard Girls Not Grey on the local Pop Station and thought "WTF this sounds like Davey singing... and that guitar has to be Jade... plus gang vocals... This HAS TO BE AFI. I had to ask myself if that CD at my practice spot was really getting AFI pop airplay. Lo and behold the record did just that . I loved AFI as a punk with "Answer That" etc, but never knew they turned into THIS GREAT of a band. 2002/2003 was a magic fucking time. AFI had a string of great albums , Saves the Day's "In Reverie" was released and changed my life as a guitarist, Nada Surf released Inside of Love while they and Interpol's Antics all had airplay on MTV2 and Fuse. All in that short but amazing span of time. All of it made my love for music deeper and gave me drive to improve and strive to be the musician I became. Never realized how much I took from Jade til watching live stuff recently. He and Dave Soloway from STD were the Punk Rock answer to Johnny Marr and it opened my eyes to what can be done as a guitarist. Anyway, this performance is the tits and I remember recording it to VHS (that's all I had as a 16yo poor kid) and every damn time I see Davey on top of the MTV Logo its surreal. They made it HUGE for a few years with their own style, no pandering just passion and honesty in songwriting (not to mention GREAT production). If only the PopPunkEmo/DreamySoundscape genre stuck around for longer before getting squashed by shit like Cute is What We Aim For and bands that just wanted to be cheeky and get chicks. Whatever. This performance is so important to me as a musician I just wanted to rant. Hunter and Adam are such an underrated Rhythm Section, Jade is a trail-blazer and Davey had the best screams of his career around this time. Vocally, he just had another gear that blew my mind. #AFI4Life
@@bricecarter4d4sad though cause Davey sings in such a weird way now. Like he’s ashamed of his natural voice tone. Nothing like the pure raw amazing energy of this concert
@cnacma davey has had a lot of vocal cord and throat issues. That is behind the voice change. Some singers have had issues like this like steven tyler.

Davey's voice is so on point. Fuckin TREMENDOUS! Honestly makes me tear up a lil not getting to experience this live as a kid. Tried to make up for it with STS 20th in LA.
Amazing...Loved this so much...cannot believe it's been over 10 years. I don't know people still expect him to be like this...lol He's gonna change, I mean, it's been over 10 years lol
Estaba tan enamorada de Davey! Entré a mi fiesta de 15 años con Silver and Cold y todas mis carpetas de la secundaria estaban tapizadas con sus fotos, también mi habitación xD...Qué recuerdos!!!
I watched this live while touring the east coast. One of the most incredible performances I had ever witnessed until I saw the live footage from Long Beach. I saw them live at Warpt Tour in my 20s and again at 40 in 2023. Long live Davey and the boys. 🖤
I wish MTV would release the full concert.. they played around 17 songs that night, a lot from Art of Drowning.. Heck the second song they went right into (which they cut off) was Lost Souls.. still this is a great video.
The full thing (audio only, minus Perfect Fit) is out there, I shared it on the old AFI News HQ site sometime around 2012. Took quite some work... The mixes were all out of order with some overlap, so stitching it back together took a day or two. Totally worth it though!
This is the exact set I saw in Atlanta at the masquerade, earlier in 2003. Only thing that was different was - smaller room, less lights, and a black long sleeved fish net shirt. Changed my life.
they don't sound like this anymore, after Daveys vocal chords got screw up he cannot sound like the old Davey anymore... it makes me so sad because he was a huge inspiration into why I fell in love with music
DyingEmpire Not sure we are talking about the same AFI. I saw them three weeks ago in Tampa, and Davey sounded amazing. I will say I'm not a huge fan of the new record but, They were simply fantastic live. The only part of the show that wasn't that great was the Youth Code duo, that opened for them. They were awful.
Jay Woodhead I do respect AFI and also grew up listening to them. But there is no way you can be considered one of the best singers if you mess up your vocal chords.
This looks like a good concert. High energy. I don't know about you guys but I remember when I was told of story of crushed velvet, Candle wax, and dried up flowers
How am I only watching this now!? What an amazing performance! Davey sounds amazing, they were one of my favorite bands since they released Sing The Sorrow and also really loved their early stuff. Their music was so different, I think more of AFI when I think of the rise of emo, than I do bands like MCR. I had the biggest crush on Davey, I was never one to crush on band dudes but this guy's charisma, style and beliefs were so awesome. I don't care much for AFI's work since Burials, and I have to admit I cried a little when Davey covered up his tattoos. Those tattoos and his overall style are what drew me into alternative/rock music when I was a 16 year old little emo kid
The leaving song pt.II Don't waste your touch, you won't feel anything Or were you sent to save me? I've thought too much, you won't find anything... Worthy of redeeming Yo he estado aqui muchas veces antes y regreso To... break down, and cease all feeling Burn now, what once was breathing Reach out, and you may take my heart away Imperfect cry, and scream in ecstasy So what befalls the flawless? Look what I've built, it shines so beautifully Now watch as it destroys me Y regreso aqui otra vez y comienzo To... break down, and cease all feeling Burn now, what once was breathing Reach out, and you may take my heart away Break down, and cease all feeling Burn now, what once was breathing Reach out, and you may take my heart away I left it all behind, and never said goodbye I left it all behind, and never said goodbye I left it all behind, and never said goodbye I left it all to die I saw its birth, I watched it grow I felt it change me I took the life, I ate it slow Now it consumes me I... break down, and cease all feeling Burn now, what once was breathing Reach out, and you may take my heart away Break down, and cease all feeling Burn now, what once was breathing Reach out, and you may take my heart away Heart away
I have loved afi since I was like 7 when my best friend showed me the dork tape he got from his brother and we were so obsessed ever since. We got to see them together in Memphis TN and after the show Adam was walkin around and we saw him and freaked out fr and he was so fuckin cool and signed our stuff and took a picture w me and that was just the best moment fr
Whaaaaaattt Why am I just now watcing this???? .??? Dude WTF they also did God Called in Sick or what is that song Seasons??? Oh man wtf... Where is the crowd performance?? On a DvD thats no longer being sold?...??? OMFG... plllleeeeaasseeee.... Okay... *breathes* I calmed down now....
I was hoping this would be the actual full concert, where they played God Called in Sick Today, Bleed Black, the songs they didn't show on MTV. Still, thanks for the upload!
What separates this band from many others is that they ditched the image idea in the early days and just went out on genuine kindness and respect to others around the world. AFI has always been a decent role model for my way of growing up I have followed them for years and before internet was available to me. I used to blast the albums and play my electric guitar along with all the songs all day!
Yes, but it does level it out a bit, depending on how harshly they compress it. They also of course mixed this AFTER it was performed, so they would have been riding the fader (probably automated it) to keep the vocals at a good level.
Does anyone where to get this entire concert at? There's a bunch of songs missing. The best part is even cut out, where he does a front flip into the crowd during the real 1st song.
