This takes me back to the days of Fuse, back when watching music videos and discovering artists was a little more challenging. I've been a fan for a long time
tell me you remember when it was much music before fuse. i member watching the music video for third season off the shut your mouth and open your eyes cd. ide have to say after this cd tho they straight fell off and went weird main stream to get a couple of sales not worth it in my opinion
Lmao yes I remember that show, I remember being with my high school sweetheart and I would always send our names in and watch for them to pop up on the screen.. those were the good olé day's that's for sure!
The year is now 2023...this song is 20 years old! WHO ELSE WAS HERE WHEN IT AIRED?! This is the song that got me in to AFI back in 2003. I am 33 now. It still gets me pumped when I find it and play it! SING THE SORROW
I’m 34 going on 35 but I remember when it aired on Vhl and MTV. I forgot the other channel it was on but I’ll never forget watching it. I also played the song on my electric guitar one time while watching the video. Good times for sure!
anyone else feeling extremely melancholic about the passage of time, watching songs like this 20 years on, and just wishing to go back and enjoy it in the flesh again?
AFI has never been underrated. Ever. By anyone , in any generation of their music from punk to alternative to goth pop to now. They have always been widely accepted, understood and extremely successful.
@@fuzzylumpkins6034 exactly. AFI have always been really well known and loved. It's fashionable to say that a band is underrated. HEY GUYZ - METALLICA IS SO UNDERRRATTTTED! IT SUCKS THAT NOBODY KNOWS OF THEM! Yeah, maybe if you're a n00b to music.
@@xymoriintus bruh I'm a metalhead, if you're discussing a band for their talent AMONG THE ELITIST METALHEAD, AND BRING UP AFI AS GOOD, YOU.WILL.BE RIDICULED! They worked there as off and always became relevant yeah, but you must not know the metal fan too well.
ophelia27 I'm spending it finding all this stuff for the FIRST time. AFI doing Cure cover in front of Robert Smith brought me hereru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4zWeh9q_ENU.html. Mind. Blown.
Wreckof theHesperas same here I’ve heard AFI before but only the song Miss Murder I’m actually starting to get into all these bands now while doing my eschool work. I just listened to Silverstein yesterday the album “Discovering the Waterfront”. It was a really good album.
Listening to this whole album was like therapy for me back in the day. So much emotion and poetry in every song. Does anyone one else get into the scream at the end of the song when singing along too?
Couldn't agree with you more. This is one of those special albums you don't skip a song and feel so much better afterwards. The nostalgia of when times were simpler comes to mind as well
My father played this in his Volkswagen bug when I was 3 years old back in 2003. I loved it and used to sing along to it with him. I’m 22 now and have been listening this band for my entire life. AFI has impacted my life in many ways, thank you for the great music. Because of you guys, I feel less alone. Peace and love to all 🤘
He is pretty good, kind of reminds me a bit of Sean Killian of Vio-Lence (Thrash Metal band from San Francisco, CA) maybe not as aggressive, but definitely still somewhere along that line.
@@e13kid no time stamp. He was friends with a lot of people who were in the Cali scene and alls these guys knew one another closely. Punk mda went over it all in a video on RU-vid. And another person in that video confirmed this
Don't waste your touch, you won't feel anything Or were you sent to save me? I've thought too much, you won't find anything Worthy of redeeming Yo he estado aquí muchas veces antes y regreso To break down and cease all feeling Burn now what once was breathing Reach out and you may take my heart away Imperfect cry, and scream in ecstasy So what befalls the flawless? Look what I've built, it shines so beautifully Now watch as it destroys me Y regreso aquí otra vez y comienzo To break down and cease all feeling Burn now what once was breathing Reach out and you may take my heart away Break down and cease all feeling Burn now what once was breathing Reach out and you may take my heart away I saw its birth, I watched it grow I felt it change me I took the life, I ate it slow Now it consumes me I break down and cease all feeling Burn now what once was breathing Reach out and you may take my heart away Break down and cease all feeling Burn now what once was breathing Reach out and you may take my heart away Heart away
@@avreythequeen2910 Absolutely understandable. This awesome voice touches deeper layers of your soul. No matter what he's up to musically, his voice sounds so gorgious.
AFI was a extremely important part of my college years in the early 2000’s I remembering buying this album my freshmen year in college and just falling in love with it. This band as helped me through so dark times. I’m 40 now and just started listening to them again.
“Look what I built it shines so beautifully now watch as it destroys me”. How many of us listened to this at 11,12 years old and could reflect on life and say the same thing 15 years later ? 🙌🏼
Baby, I'm 61 years old and I am still listening to AFI 20 years later! This is THE song that made me fall in love with these guys!!! Had a massive crush on Davey when this came out. I guess I still have one to be honest. My hubby doesn't like it, oh well! ❤
I got into AFI when I was in the seventh grade and my cousin gave me a copy of black sails in the sunset. Sing the Sorrow is still a banger 20 years later. Its an all-timer imo
Fun fact: this video is some of the first time hardcore dancing was ever shown on video. The “kids” hardcore dancing we filmed completely separate from AFI and they are listening to hatebreed.
I don't love everything AFI has done, but Sing The Sorrow has been one of my favourite albums for nearly a decade. I never knew this fantastic song had a video!!
Caroline M. I will not lie, I enjoy Decemberunderground immensely and love how different it was and Crash Love was the bomb...really adore that underrated gem but Burials tried to go back in time and I disliked that. Not sure what to expect from the new album hut I love what we've heard so far. Nothing will touch this album though. And yes I love Black Sails, Drowning and Hallows a lot as well.
Yeah, I TOTALLY understand that and feel the same way as well. I remember when Decemberunderground first came out, and thinking how different it was from their late 90's more punk stuff, but thinking 'damn, I love this.' Yes, the art of drowning was so fucking good and will forever be one of my favorites! Yeah, I really could not agree more. I was listening to their 'shut your mouth and open your eyes' album from 1997 a while ago, and wow they had a completely different sound. I'm only 22 so I didn't discover AFI till I was about 12....one of those bands that just completely changed me.
I was about 15 back in 2006. So not much older than you really. I like their early stuff a lot as well! But I find it a little interchangeable with other bands. Black Sails is where they really become one of my favourite bands, and I don't think they ever released a mediocre album until Burials. But yeah I love this band! Oy way to work now and I'm playing Sing The Sorrow haha
Im a spanish girl but this song literally became my anthem in High school. I love how deep the lyrics are and just how it moves my emotions.. Rock is definetly not for the faint of heart....Still
I met Davey Havoc back in 2002 warped tour.....after his set i went over to watch "the casualties" play....there was only about 20 people watching them and davey was one of them....i got to hangout with him for like 30 mins....and He is one of the nicest persons ive ever met in my life.
Lmao that is awesome, and totally believable. As much as AFI was a sensation after this album, which I love, the vast majority of AFI fans wouldn't like early AFI records or Hardcore Punk.
Oh yeah and The Casualties are kinda dicks, wouldn't give my little sister an autograph when we ran into them at Ross Park Mall in Pittsburgh in 2003 xD
I was just listening to their last album from 2013 and they mellowed out a lot. I love Sing The Sorrow and Decemberunderground album. Since Crash Love, I haven't listened to them like that. I understand the need for growth and change, but damn it, I love the goth look and this harder edge to their older songs. I miss this. Havoc looks so damn different everytime, I have to check to make sure it's still him singing. The 90s will always have my heart when it comes to music...that's all I listen to now.
Sometimes we forget who we are or where we came from. When we listen to a certain song or see sometime on TV. I takes us to that special place and we remember what we went through to be here. It should give you a certain empowering feeling to know that you made an impact on someones life that was so significant. Don't ever lose touch with that special place.
AFI sigue siendo una chingonería a pesar de que ahora sea mainstream. Ninguno de sus discos tiene desperdicio. Además, sus integrantes mantienen un estilo de vida limpio y consciente. Eso es ser un verdadero punk.
The only band that I know of that started off as a Hardcore band, became catchy and made well written songs, achieving some mainstream success and still somehow retained the respect of the Hardcore community
Davey looks so good with long curly hair and nowadays also with really short hair,he's really flawless with no effort. They are one of the best punk rock bands back on the 90s and forever
This is one of the best songs of my lifetime. Brings me back to so many memories... some good, some painful... My life has been beautiful, difficult, and there have been moments where I wanted to give up. But I have always persisted.
dude McR the used afi underoath were amazing bands back then even though sadly the bands that we listened to when we were young are split apart i wish we could live young again cause i miss these bands and i wish i can see them again but i agree i can mosh to this music all day lol
Jesse Fitzjarrald Afi are still a band they released an album last year (I think) it is a lot different to sing the sorrow era but it is good if you are willing to listen to something different
It's very amazing how Davey has a very feminine voice all the time but yet when he releases all of his emotions at the end of the song at onetime it unlocks the true deepness of his voice when he lets out his final scream at the end of the song
@@onemanarmysswampparty Having a feminine voice has nothing to do with range but with timbre and his timbre is indeed quite feminine, which makes him more unique. His range is actually nothing special, he's not even a tenor.
Don't waste your touch, you won't feel anything Or were you sent to save me? I've thought too much, you won't find anything... Worthy of redeeming Yo he estado aqui muchas veces antes y regreso To... break down, and cease all feeling Burn now, what once was breathing Reach out, and you may take my heart away Imperfect cry, and scream in ecstasy So what befalls the flawless? Heart away
I was a Kid when this came out and I loved this song, this vid was my introduction with the Straight Edge and Hardcore, even AFI wasn't a Hardcore Band I started to listen more and more Hardcore and now I'm on my 30's and I still Listen Hardcore, Hardcore 'till death
This whole album is a total classic. I remember not really being convinced by AFI, when they first appeared in our local punkrock-disco. Voice, looks, attitude ... but it instantly grew on me and sticked with me until this day. Wouldn't skip one single song on this record.
This song is a very important part of the album that saved my life. I don't even know why I randomly felt like listening to AFI tonight but I'm glad I did. Way back when this album dropped I was super depressed and was seriously considering suicide and then by a chance encounter I happened to be hanging out at a friend's place and here neighbor came over with this new AFI album. We probably listened to if 15 times that night from beginning to end. For whatever reason Davey's lyrics really spoke to me. I felt them in my soul. It's like for the first time I could see beauty in tragedy and I decided to embrace it. I'll always have depression. That's how depression works. But thanks to Davey and the rest of AFI, I know I can deal with it and I'll always love them for giving me a new perspective on life.
Beauty in tragedy indeed! You are a living, breathing example and so am I. Depression is a lifetime illness. I a shame more people understood that. God bless you.
Take me back to these days please! Hanging out with my son, and jamming to music like this! These were the last year's of good music and good memories! Wouldn't change a thing!
A Fire Inside will forever be one of the best bands ever in my book. They've made some amazing music, but this has always been my favorite through the years. AFI forever.
I remember meeting Dave for the first time at an Arizona Warp Tour as a teen back stage. I was drinking hot coco , he was wearing leather pants, he told me I am crazy for drinking the hot coco in this heat, I told him he's crazy for the leather pants and having to do an entire set on stage, he said "touche". The end.
This album is legendary. I saw them on the tour for this album, as well as the December Underground tour. Sing the Sorrow was their pinnacle (imo) but they have many great songs from other albums as well.
@@thebootknifer album was released 2003. But I had dialup through high school. 2002-2006 kids today will never know the struggle of dialup. And the random calls that would kick you off the internet. Or the random time parents want to call someone so you would have to wait till they were done.
I discovered AFI when I was in high school and it changed my whole outlook on music. I was really into classic rock, but when I heard this in was blown away by the vocals and the instruments!
It’s crazy punk never changed but this song could make anyone see how far we’ve gone to be what we are. We’ve all broken down and it’s really this hardcore.
As a young mexican kid from the barrio and heavy into mexican music, I'll never forget playing madden one day and this song came on, i could not explain the feelings and emotions that over came me, it opened more doors to music i wouldn't have listened to, fast forward 2019, and here i am.
Davey is awesome he's great at showing his feminine side through every song but yet he can bring his full masculinity out when needed to acheive the amazingly deep and loud scream just like u seen at the end of this video and i have never seen anybody be able to be very feminine but yet bring out their somewhat darker and much more masculine side in their music like davey and thats wut makes him so amazing 👍👍👍👍👍
