I was debating checking this one out. I’ve only seen one other Petzold film, Transit, and was not a fan. I think I need to see some of his other films to understand his style more. What do you recommend?

Thanks for checking out my review! This was my introduction to him, so I was unfamiliar with his previous styles. I personally really enjoyed this film, but I didn’t love it from the first frame. What kind of films do you like?

@@fritzyboy789his films should be right up my alley. I love the European slow burn art house genre. Transit just didn’t do it for me. I’ll probably end up checking this one out at some point.

Was lucky enough to see this at the cinema and really found it drew me in with humour and naturalism. Main character not likeable on the surface, but as you get to know him becomes sympathetic, just like real life. Strong performance from Thomas Schubert. Made its point powerfully both in story and cinematically. Deserved to be seen by much wider audience. I too found Transit a difficult film but it was compelling to watch. My favourite Petzold film is Barbara, and on the basis of that and Afire I will continue to follow his output and always at cinema if possible.
