Listening to this program one would think that this is a futile exercise. Pundits and critics are more often than not, wet blankets to anything positive.

African free-trade means raw materials will be consumed within the continent, which is a headache for the West and China. For a very long time Africa has been taken advantage of by foreigners.

Have your own African Currency , Africa Central Bank for the continent and African Stock Market. Establish your own African Development Bank.

I think it's a good startup but what we need is credible people that would spearhead the basics of this trade deal. Africa as a continent is blessed just that we need credible leaders.

Teaching the little ones. Being honest with each other. Men working hard and leaving the drink alone and supporting the ladies. Something missing from this discussion is that Europe and China for example have supported the process and have both committed to avoid neocolonialism, if only for the two reasons that bringing a billion more people into the global economy provides global economic benefit and that it is socially unjust that Africans through no fault of their own are living in relative poverty. It is worth noticing china's recent efforts to eradicate severe poverty within China and the trade deal between the EU and China that includes commitments on labour standards. While neocolonialism is a risk that all parties are deeply self-conscious of, the African union has been modelled in consultation with the EU, something that was touted occasionally in news articles only last year. Congratulations and I hope that the development of the African continental internal markets helps everyone in poverty and not just the wealthy. We should also be grateful that this has (finally) come at a time where renewable energy presents a cost advantage over fossil fuels as the last thing the world would need is another 1.4bln coal burners!!

I've been lucky to travel to some of Africa and it has so much potential, not just in the wealth of its resources but also in the huge talent of its young people. This continent is beautiful and it should be the centre of tourism so more people can experience its hospitable, warm cultures, gorgeous landscapes and wildlife, and exciting cities, from Cape Town to Marrakech and Lagos to Dar es Salaam! Such a misunderstood place. Much love from Pakistan 🇵🇰 - I hope there's more cooperation between African countries and Pakistan in the future.

Other non African countries extract Africa's resources without fair compensation for way more money than "aid" comes in (with all the strings attached). What Africa needs is fair trade, not exploitation. The continent is so rich it doesn't need aid.
