The Portuguese empire in Africa was the earliest and longest lived of the colonial empires, lasting from 1415 until 1974, with serious activity beginning in 1450.
Portugal's colonies in Africa included Angola, Mozambique, Guinea, the Cape Verde Islands off the coast of Mauritania-Senegal, and Sao Tome and Principe, islands in the Gulf of Guinea.
A Sea Odyssey 1415-1543 is a new album project by Paulo C. Rocha, based on the sea exploration and discoveries of the Portuguese, started by Prince Henry the Navigator (Infante Dom Henrique). Portugal, one of the oldest nations of Europe became a great seaborn empire from their exploits during that time.
