A lot of us African Americans know who are ancestors is even with out being connected to Africa or the Caribbean because of slavery a lot of some of us know by spirit who we are most of us here in America are Haitian and Jamaica well as Nigerian. Man, kudos bro! My son was born in Miami from a Haitian father and a Haitian mother, and the only thing that he can say in Creole is " "diri" (rice)and he had such a hard time to learn it. You speak it very well; thank you for sharing your story with us.
That's usually the ideal transition if you speak French. Speaking french grants you the opportunity to speak creole. Apparently you've done the work to listen to the accent keenly to get it down packed like this lol. You're probably the only non-haitian speaking creole that I've come across. Bravo zanmi mwen 👏🏾
This is excellent. What I've found as the "best way" is that combination of things: motivation, practice, and a variety of methods, including reading, listening, speaking, and translating on the fly between Kreyòl and English. Like you, I'm seeking to connect with my Haitian friends at a deeper level. I've been at it nine weeks, and I was able to follow about 30% of this without subtitles. Thanks for putting this out here for us.

Thank you! I've looked off and on for years for Creole learning vlogs like the ones I see on Spanish and German...for years! I'd start one myself but I have ZERO time. (Married with 3 homeschooled kids). I started learning when I was a kid and ended up marrying a Hatian man (look at that!). My Creole is ok but can definitely go to another level.
